How Shifting From a Consumer to Producer Mindset Changed My Life
What are your thoughts on faceless channels?
I think it depends on your content, I think it definitely can work for gaming content. I've seen it work for many in the educational space too but I feel like you'd be choosing to fight an uphill battle by doing that. I tend to avoid most faceless channels simply because when I see an AI avatar in their thumbnail and expect the whole video to be junk. No idea if I'm off base, just the impression I have. It's not something I've really looked into to be honest.
Thanks for making this. I;m at the start of the same journey
You got this :)
You are doing great man. Keep producing 💪
Cool video Dave 🥳 that’s incredible that you made 10 videos then stopped posting, then one of your videos went viral 😅 this is a unique story that I haven’t heard much - let’s crush in 2025 man 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
Thank you for sharing this! I really needed to see this and the Algorithm Gods brought it right to me. I always overthink things and ruin any chance of success that I might have but not this time! Good luck in your channel! I think you are gonna go big :)
@@OnlyTheChronic Thanks for the vote of confidence <3
Hi, your video really resonated with me, it added motivation and value to my day, just want to say thanks for sharing and creating.
@tablegrok Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, glad it could add little motivation to your day
I love your videos. There so informative and deserve thousands of views. Have you got an email I can reach out to? I have an exiting opportunity (more like a gift) that I believe you would love. Keep up these videos there very helpful (:
Thanks for the kind words, you can find my email is in my bio
You ARE worth it 😊 RUclips is a great outlet for beautiful imperfection. I have a similar story in that I make videos and I might as well start sharing them on a regular basis! Now I’m committed 😂
Hell yeah, do it :)
@ oh ya. very inspirational video!
So nice that this corner of RUclips seems positive and supportive of each other 👍🏻
Thanks. It’s so awesome to have a little inspiration. Im working on starting my channel. Unfortunately, I barely use a computer, so I have a long way to go. But I’m very serious about making a shift in my life too.
The transformation is huge, it's not easy but it's worth it. You go this 💪
You’ve got this girl 💫💖💥
Helpful words my friend. I am a new creator myself and have felt the discouragement. It’s a proceed though, and well worth it!
It can be hard to keep going when nothing seems to work. It's hard to remember in the moment that it will take RUclips 6 months to figure out what to do with a video. Keep going!
You are like a YT therapist
This is a weirdly amazing compliment, thank you. But also, I'm not ready for that responsibility o.o
This video should be on millions views and likes🎉
Hah, if only ;)
Thanks! I’m working on a game for my senior thesis and this was very helpful!
That's awesome, best of luck with your project!
I appreciate your work and videos guides. Thanks for the help :)
Glad it resonated with you, thanks for the kind words. <3
I have been in this field for some time. This is the best video I have come across in a long time. Great insight into making trading card games. I have absorbed so much within this thirty minutes video, which i could not attain in ten years. Thank you so much for such an inspiring and educative video.
Thanks for leaving such a kind response, I'm glad it was worth you're time :)
Making content was hard this last week. I needed to say this, hopefully it can help you too. I’ve already shared my journey recently, but I was feeling introspective and wanted to put this out there. I’m trying not to overthink things too much 🤷♂ I'm just going to make whatever the heck I feel like, let me know what you think. :)
Thank you for sharing your story. I enjoy getting to know other creators and it's very grounding to hear their honest struggles and their humble successes. You got this. Creating is a joy. And creating authentic content like this has the wonderful side effect of connecting you with people. Happy to have met you. Keep it up!
Thanks for the tips but i do have 1 to add which is Know when to stop I get into tgis groove when being creative where i cant push the off button but that always leads to unfinished projects you have to know when to say enough is enough you will always have extra ideas and concepts but knowing when to stop is important
I completely agree with this. Setting deadlines can be huge. I have the habit of overthinking things and always want to fit more when the right call most of the time is to move on to the next step.
Quality advice, thanks!
Thanks for leaving the comment <3 Glad it resonated with you
Thanks for explaining this ard stuff so straight forward.
what game engine is that?
No game engine involved, just a website.
@@davejeltema3 but whiiiichhhh
@ i mean which is that website that u played with ur cards?
@bexy1523 Huh could have sworn I had it in the description, I'll have to fix that. www.dextrous.com.au/
@ at least we fixed that now haha
Where do I find the free starter kit?
You can find it in the discord, you can find it in the resources section. Or you can type !dextrous for the auto responder. The stuff is a little dated by now and might not look pretty, but should get you across the finish line to see how it all works.
Great video man! BTW do you need a video editor and thumbnail designer for your channel? If so how can we get in touch??
I'm in no position to pay someone what they are worth to edit/design anything right now, sorry my dude.
great video! how do you make sure, you don't use any patented game mechanics? e.g. the settlers have parts patented and feels overwhelming to check this.
Fun fact: I did actually draw both of the subscribe images. The first was in paint, and the other I traced an image in Photoshop. Brush and fill bucket tools only. The first took 5 mins and the second I let my perfectionism take the lead and spent 30 mins on it.
I never even realized the mtg cost thing could be an issue. I’ve always kept the leftmost card in my hand on top, so the cost has always been visible…
"If it can be said in fewer words, say it in fewer words" I'm sorry, should that be "say it in the fewest words"?
3:01 Was that "TH" on purpose? 😅
Actually no lol. I thought I fixed it but I must have pasted the text and only fixed one of them xD. Normally I would rewatch the video like 4 times to search for things like this. Oh well ;)
Great video! I like the Ali Abdaal inspirated thumbnail
Hah, I was wondering how obvious it would be. I didn't have time to overthink it, just needed something that worked :P
Love this! Nothing has been more freeing than the freedom to mess it up, learn from it, and come back at it again. I think the only time I've ever really failed is when I let the perfectionism freeze me in place and give up entirely. Glad to hear this from someone else!
Very true, advice should be considered not taken blindly or ignored
Cool concept I'll have to give it a shot!
Hell yeah!
What a great video. I love all the "mistakes" in it. It is awesome advice I am going to implement. Your content is useful, concise and adds to my skillset as a new board game designer. RUclips suggested 8 videos for me this morning and I selected yours first, not because I was expecting perfection, but because I expected to learn something, and I did. Thank you, please keep creating inperfect content!
Thanks for giving me a shot, I glad it was worth your time. Thanks for taking the time to let me know :)
Wow, great video! I've had a tad bit of perfectionism stand in my way with getting my new channel going. Is the content I have interesting enough, is my set-up flawless, should I use Twitch or RUclips to get streaming? In some cases, perfectionism is important. I just moved away from home and the WiFi in my new place would not allow for smooth life-streams. But once I overcome that obstacle, I want to start creating content as fast as possible! Very actionable and universal advice! 🎉
I feel like we're part of the same club lol. I'm glad you found it helpful, best of luck finding more eyeballs for your stream :)
I just don't trust a third party company that could at any time go bankrupt or dramatically change the pricing model. Things like nanDeck and cardmaker are one time downloads that just live on your computer and will just keep working even if support for them dies. Maybe eventually a new OS will come out and they will stop working on that new OS, but they will still work on that original OS. Like dextrous has a free tier, but that could vanish any day.
Hey guys, a couple weeks ago I had to scrap a video I had been working on for weeks and it was painful. Afterwards I felt crunched for time but then I had a fun idea. What if I just made a video in 24 hours? I fell in love with the idea of making a video from start to finish in 24 hours and simply did the best I could in that amount of time. And then I thought, what better thing to talk about than the very thing I’m trying to work through. Or if you watch the video: with. This is less tactical then some of my other videos but it’s something I’m very passionate about, I’d love to hear about your struggles with perfectionism and I hope that these two mindset shifts can help you to be more creative and get out of your head like they have for me. <3
Thanks for the tips man. I just got a new printer and I’m still figuring out why my prints are failing. The rook printed fine. Testing a sideways supported knight now and it’s working! We will see what I can make happen
You are a gem, thank you for these videos❤ I was JUST about to create art for a whole game on photoshop
Glad I could save you the headache, never going back :)
Awesome video bro! BTW do you need a video editor and thumbnail designer for your channel?
Thanks for the offer my dude but I cannot afford to pay anyone what they're worth to help me with that. Check back at 50k subs :P
Subscribed! Thanks for the tips, just started a channel 👍
👍
I like your style. I am kind of tired of creators with fancy catch lines who waste my time with stuff that's been said on 100 other channels.
I'm sure I'll say some things others have, I'm only human, but my goal is for everything I say to cut to the heart of the issue
Subscribed! Great honest content!
Thanks for the kind words <3
@@davejeltema3 You're welcome!
I agree with point of view. I am a new RUclipsr and I follow this concept. I’m supporting you. I just subscribed.
Glad to have you :)
The algorithm's "job" is not to promote good content. Only to push content which gets clicks. YT doesn't give a crap about content. Their only concern is making as much ad revenue as possible which means promoting content...good or bad...that's getting clicks. That's it. End of story. Good content actually has something to offer. Telling people YT is in "easy mode" like so many are doing right now only speaks to those who are thirsting for clicks.
I think there’s a lot of truth to this, especially about the algorithm prioritizing clicks over content quality. That said, I’d add that while RUclips pushes engagement, content that resonates and sustains attention can still perform well long-term. The "easy mode" narrative can oversimplify things, it may work short-term, but building substance alongside strategy creates more lasting success.
You know how to shoot the videos, and you have the studio or place to do it, including lights and sounds. But as a guy, who just was passing by, let me tell you this: you look depressed and helpless and discouraged. Yes, you are selfish, because you just lost interest in a part of your life and you are moving on, caring nothing about people, who trusted you and cared about you and the content. You are pushing them away and telling other people that you are not stable and making friends with you is up to the moment till you change your view of your life. Why don't you delete this video and do differently. Telling your friends/followers that you want to expend on your life views and do different things but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You find a person or two, who do youtube channel on those subjects that you have no interest now and try to engage with them and tell your audience that you start working with those guys and for new content on video games or whatever, go to this guy or another guy and have different videos with them and ask them for referring your clients to those guys to be part of their podcasts once a week or a month. One of the lessons on your channel of what not to do is to push people away because you lost interest to what they have interest in. I think you are a nice guy, and something happened, and you honestly tell people how you feel, but there is no reason disengage like that with your friends and followers.
I enjoyed this video. Thank you! I like your style. I plan to monetize my channel in 2025, and it's going to take a lot of videos to make that happen, so I look forward to looking to you for inspiration. Happy New Year, and best wishes for great success. Thanks again Dave!
Totally doable, you got this 💪
Nice vid
Thank ya =D
