Treadmill threshold on holiday
A few days after Tom cycled round Mallorca the boys decided to get back to what they know best and jump on the treadmills for a threshold, It’s fair to say they’re both far away from normal shape. The session was followed by a debrief at a local cafe explaining why their shape wasn’t at the normal level.

gents, little addis cafe at 44 stanley in joburg when you're next to/from dullstroom. can easily get 10 different veg on one dish. meat is great as well. not very spicy. ethiopian coffee is decent too. easy parking.
Brilliant video and had me laughing out loud in parts!! Did the Mallorca 312 this years and it’s VERY hard!! 400k off next to no cycling is absolutely immense. Chapeau Tom. 👏
Best 10k specific workouts?
By far the best video so far 😂 No PNS for George? 😂
As a cyclist, the non aero yellow jersey and cap are driving me insane.
oh then you didn't catch the bit where his sunnies were over his helmet strap on one side and under on the other. but it's all ok pour moi. they're runners.
Impressive Tom!
Class
Monster day out, Tom's made of some incredible stuff
Favourite cycling channel.
Haribo guys

most impressive part was George being in public in that kit.
serious content. what we like to see! keep it going
Good job George relaxing and having ice cream will help you run better, Ingebrigtsen does it all the time. Here in St Mortiz there are many good places. Good luck this year.
Get him into the world tour
Such a cool Video!
if george can get back for his whereabouts by not katir? also, i guess now we know, 12 week taper is the right amount tom. what an impressive holiday boys.
mental. just mental
the 400k guys
400k guy 😂
What is next for Tom? Updates, please.
Thanks for the update. Shame you picked up covid19. I think you can improve your tactics....i recommend you staying close to the front in heats and semi to make it easier to qualify. Watch both Fisher and Kessler both stay near the front and do it with no fuss. You make it hard by being so far back. When the pace picks up you are at a disadvantage. Im sure you will do great in Tokyo as you are very disciplined and work hard. All the best George
I think that every runner knows when it's time to call it a day for the season. Sometimes the body is OK but the mind is shot, sometimes it's the other way round. Whatever, there's no point trying to force it when there's no chance of putting in a good performance. Hope you have a good end of season break and look forward to following your progress to next year's world champs. Realistically, do you see your best chance of a medal on the global stage at 1500 or 5000? From my totally uneducated view, I would ay the longer distance but what do I know?
That unseasoned chicken did not look good my guy. Considering how much you enjoy your scran im surprised you can eat it like that 😂
Flavour doesn’t make you fast
Why is george not gonna get the tattoo?
performance
tattoos can provoke an immune response. Fashion is not fast
Really well edited video, love it 👍👍
Couldn’t wait for this video
I was the pilot on you flight to Frankfurt back from the Diamond League meet in Lausanne. Just realized to late it was you while saying goodbye to the passangers in the cabin while deboarding! Would love to have a picture with one of the 5k guys 😉 Fan since the channel started! ✌🏻How is Tom doing by the way?
Ah, what a miss! :) Yes, Tom needs to record his part of the video.
Some say he’s still in the mountains
That’s awesome, would have loved to meet you! Drop me a message on instagram, we might be on a flight together again soon?
@@the5kguys Unfortunately no Ig and transitioning to longhaul at the moment. I will follow the channel and see if you guys plan to race further abroad ;-)
Great Job George! love the videos
my question got answered by George! Holy cow 😮 didn't expect that!
Great question!
hey, I might've gone through something similar when I was your age. I'm a tall runner that relied too much on tendon elasticity/my natural springiness and not enough on my muscles/energy systems, particularly the posterior chain/butt. Very slowly, through the years, the repeated stride impact coupled with anterior reliance hunched me forward until I was basically running with my hip flexors and shoulders-super inefficient. After various tipping points, I couldn't figure out why my effort was through the roof and my results were plummeting. Then, it's kind of a negative feedback where running made you feel good (but is also what is hurting you) so you run more and more and feel worse and worse. Until, at its worst, you can't catch a good workout because you can't even access your big muscles to get that work in, and then it's just one big declining cascade of structural and energy systems. This is actually my first comment and I hope you see it because your situation is really reminiscent, and I know how terrible it is. Luckily, after I diagnosed it, the fix was easy. I reactivated my posterior chain through light smith machine deadlifts with a really pronounced curve in my back and a proud chest, all the while, consciously firing and reinforcing the mind/muscle connection in my glutes and back. Also, it looks like you might need to strengthen/stretch your upper/middle back because your shoulders are slightly turned forward-hanging is also good for this, ideally both. Once I fixed this, it literally felt like my body's natural spring was given back to me, and correspondingly, I became far more efficient and my performance returned. You can't out effort objective paradigms, like leverages, so please go easy on yourself subjectively and handle your objective business like an engineer would: systematically and dispassionately. If you've tried everything else, please try this, because it gave me my athleticism back, albeit very little compared to you! I don't think it's your heart/energy systems, I think it might be internal infrastructural changes that have resulted in sub-optimal energy allocations for running, specifically.
6’2” aspiring mid D guy, post collegiate coaching myself. I have had the same debilitating problems with glute activation. After building some mass to fill my frame and re-training my neuromuscular pathways, I not only eliminated my injury problems but discovered sprint speed I didn’t know I was capable of. In the middle of a mileage ascent and I’ve doubled my previous highest volume with no problems. Going to 160km and then starting the Norwegian method building toward next season. To anyone struggling with chronic injury, understand that you are not permanently “broken,” just need to take matters into your own hands and learn a lot about how your body works.
“Wasting glycogen” 💀💀
Wishing you the best recovery, must be mentally draining.
Dont cry, baby !!! Lets go to Olympic in LA BRO!!!
Hiya :) Might be worth doing a thorough cardiological exam (heart ultrasound, EKG etc.), if you haven't done so yet :) just to be sure that there isn't something a blood test missed. All the best to you-stay strong and keep going!
Im sorry to hear man, I wish you the best of luck. You will be there in 2028.
Good Luck Tom! Stay Hard!
All the best mate! The best will come 👏
Thank you for sharing the lows as well! Soon you will share the highs with us again!
tryna figure out which 5ks are the right ones is the hardest part. i'm not giving up on the kombucha or kefir just yet...
Good luck Tom! Enjoy your break.
