F1 Ultra Testing - Fiber IR Laser - Fails on Low Power
So I decided to test the Fiber IR on the F1 Ultra a little more. To my surpriseiIt failed on 10% power (at least my unit did). There were some halos and other minor details so far that I have encountered and more to be tested on a second video.

Can you share the settings to test in my unit?
I use the test grid maker from XCS. Look on my channel I did a tutorial how to create them
I'm confused why it matters so much to you how it looks on what are considered unusable combinations. The optimal results are on the bottom of the card, so naturally the ones that are not optimal will look like garbage. I don't see any of what you're calling "halo" in the good areas, so why does it matter?
So lower power or faster speed doesn't mean garbage. A consistent machine will make the engraving with no problems just not as define. I've been using multiple machines so is not like I have no idea what would happen. Also why is not firing at 10% power. Because it is not needed? Based on your input it is not full blast power wind do good. That is not how lasers.work tho
could you try the Halotest with and without smart paths itellegent path?
I use the default with smart on this test. The next metal test is going full manual and nothing Xtool smart for sure. Normally the smart path takes longer on everything
I'm keeping my eye in this product. Thanks for sharing!! Much ❤ APC!!
Thank you for watching
it's only 32 pounds. its portable for me. I've ordered mine and will be using it for craft shows as well as in my shop.
I comment that portability is not really about weight it is more on how sturdy that machine is.
Thank you for the video, my shield doesn't close just like yours and yes it's sad we have to fix the machine ourselves and I wonder how long the fix will last seems like a faulty design. We do have a warranty so this should be covered under the warranty, but I'm concerned if I try and make the fix now I voided my warranty ;-(
Remember that this fix is a video from xtool the link for the official guide is on the description
@@AlivePixelCreates So did you request and receive a new shield from xTool?
@@georgeheleine5209 no I try to adjust it. I did adjust the shield after is a lot better now but still a tiny gap unser
@@AlivePixelCreates Thank you for the reply, I enjoy your videos and they are very informative.
@@georgeheleine5209 thank you so much for watching and for your support
Funny how you are just posting your video but Xtool’s video for the fix shows its a month old. So apparently they knew they had an issue. Trying too hard to get a product out quickly maybe? Either way I still want one but will wait a while I guess. Unless they just send me one. 😬
seems like they push the product out yes, and they definitely didn't test enough the final design, is a nice machine and with some works around seems to be all they promise (almost) but is on an early stage for sure.
My safety shield has a small gap at the bottom in the front. I can see laser light escaping out.
Check the link on description or scan the QR the video that is the official Xtool gide.
Unacceptable on a safety item.
I wonder if xTool is going to credit customers account for $50.00 for having to fix their problem. A safety shield not fitting correctly is another black eye for them. Keep them coming Daniel!
Yeah is so sad that is happening It is unreal that they have not check before sending machines out
Great video! Sad we have to work on a $5K machine, but it is what it is.. sucks you have a stripped screw! Try putting a rubber band in the hole and see if it will grab, but yeah should not have to deal with stripped parts
yeah the screw part was for sure frustrating. hope is just me tho
I have the same closing issue, maybe not as prominent as yours
I'm uploading a video on my attempt to fix it based on xtool support page.
You should have shown us some map engravings...
I'm finishing F1 ultra videos and doing a whole tutorial with the maker ;)
Couldn't figure out how to edit so reposting. My concern was you said it was advertised as portable and I said xTool has not. You said you meant by users but to me advertising means company not users. Also I still don't understand why you didn't invert it since it would show how the picture should look vs a negative. Finally I'm not sure you focused correctly after calibrating and not sure you used the correct settings. Hopefully once you dive into the machine a little more and have a better understanding of how it works you will have better outcome.
Was by user that said is portable i mistake the company comments but is by users and I don't think is portable
Thanks for the video, never thought of this project.
If you buy the map on Etsy you need to work on it and it is from $5 to $9 or even more per map with 3 layers. If you get the basic subscription you can make 76, 3 layer maps with a cost of $1.6 on your entire 3 layer project. In my book that is a win.
@@AlivePixelCreates Thanks
NOOOOOO ITS TOO EXPENSIVE
Put it on perspective if you work in a lake map ( not buy from Etsy work in yours) and take.you 1 to two hours. You put on one single map $30 on time being really conservative, and you pay for a full year $115.20… each map can have up to 5 layers not only the lake and a couple things and you get it ready in minutes .
you have to push down on the top/back and it will close all the way. Just using the handle, it will always close tilted with the back raised.
I noticed that. That is a bad design tho.
@@AlivePixelCreates it's quite annoying for sure.
Oh and I thought my unit was defective. It’s a common thing I guess
@@lasersandbeyond its the same issue on on f1, I never use handle to close it, just to open it
The issues with your bear engraving are less due to firmware issues the more to user issues. You selected settings for score and then changed it to engrave and then said you wanted to go crazy and jump the speed up to 7,000. When you just throw settings at the wall and hope for something to stick, you really can't blame firmware for the outcome.
The little pouch is a gift pouch you can laser and put in a coin that you engrave. ;-)
The material is amazing
Sorry brother, it is 100% portable. It's only 25 lbs. I take it often. Put the foam back over middle and bottom, strap it up with the straps, and slide it right back in the box. 100% portable, they designed it for exactly that, taking to craft shows.
Doesn't seem right that is advertised as portable yes is a cube but shield is not the best for that. Yes you can take it because it is not heavy but that doesn't make it portable in my opinion.
@AlivePixelCreates it's light enough to carry easily and takes less than 5 minutes to set up. What more do you need to make it be considered "portable"?
@@lasersandbeyondCoffee makers are lighter and set up in 1 minute and they are not portable. Depends.on the person I guess.
It is not advertised as portable by xTool. People that have bought it said it is portable.
@@michelejaeb2787 no but users are saying it is and that is why I said is not really portable in my opinion
Not much said about your first impressions?
First impression fail with the test engraving. I'm testing more materials making a lot of test grids and is not exactly great so far
@@AlivePixelCreatesI'm confused about how this fails your test engraving when you literally just threw settings at it? You pulled settings for a score, then changed to engrave And then said you were going to go crazy and change the speed to 7000. You can hardly consider that a test at all.
@@JaccobbRomero is scratch paper Jacob if with settings that other brands use this fails what you want me.to say that is ok give it more passes so will be fine? Just didn't do it on a vector over scratch paper. And the test business card is the same. I'm posting a follow up video of a stress test on the ultra. No one likes the ugly I get it. But just happen.
Adobe style pricing is a non starter for me. The 'credits' system, another non starter for me. This model is predatory; opportunistic at best. Hard pass. I would pay for a license, even a tiered license, but this is too far. And they're gating exports? Come on. Did these guys make mobile games before this venture?
I think processing by hand cost a lot more than this tool for the cost of selling and the time you save on each work or project is well worth it. Ultimately like a lot of designers some software is included on pricing for their prices and this should be no different.
The processing for this happens in the cloud. There are variable hosting fees involved in such and subscription models, like it or not, are the best way to balance the variable cost incurred and provide you with value and ongoing updates and enhancements
Normally pricing is something that can be transferred to customers. Definitely I always need to think about cost benefits and more importantly how many I can make by hand or with a software
The adobe style pricing is a big NO.
I've been using professional software ally life and I have to say that other software that my business uses is 3k per year. For a couple hundred years I can make a lot of money saving time.
Great video. I wish you had a link to Amazon to make a purchase. They do sell them but no link to get your cut.
I got mine on a local craft store
Great information. I subscribed with all notifications. I will follow the link and use this software.
Thank you for watching
i hate subscription models...i really hate monthly subscription models billed yearly.
Agreed, as soon as I see that adobe style pricing Im out.
yep, I would have paid 50-100.00 for this software but wont even pay 1.00 a month. even a pay to upgrade system is better than subs. this is the Affinity vs Adobe model. they picked the wrong one for me :D looks like rly cool software though.
I'm not a fan of subscriptions but cost benefit. My time is more important specially on laser work. I can make the map I need.in a couple minutes and work on something else instead fixing lines for 1 or 2 hours. I understand that is not probably the cheapest or something but definitely will do the trick to save time.
While there are tutorials on how to do this for free, this is a nice package that automates the process. Pretty cool!!
It really is cool on the basic subscription a 3 layer map comes to about $1.6 compared to the $5 or more on Etsy for the file.
Happy 4th bro!!
they should make a version for 3d printing. with heights, building heights etc.
Oh man, I was not able to find it on your website. I wonder if it did not work out. 😥
Hi. I still haven't had luck with a decent price on the camera. :(
HI! Please, can you do a test engraving and cutting with Roly and Xtool? Which of the two engraves more detailed and faster and which cuts the same type of material faster. From what I have searched the internet I have not found anyone doing such a test to exemplify the differences in laser spot size, becouse from the specifications on Roly's website the laser spot is larger than Xtool's. From what I understand Roly's 30 W model does not engrave very detailed. However the 30W laser module also has the option to work at a lower power, at 10W. In this 10W mode can't it engrave more detailed? Thank you very much for your explanations!
Hi I did a couple test and yes the 30w is for big cutting while the 10w is really details engraving and cutting. The 40w from stool is the same since it is a very hot laser creating charring and won't let you do small details. Is like comparing a mini-torch and a flamethrower.
@@AlivePixelCreates Very interesting what you said that the Xtool 40W can't engrave very detailed. On their official website they say that the laser spot is 0.08*0.10 mm, for Xtool 40W. Compared to Roly 30W the laser spot is significantly larger. For comparison Roly 30W has a much larger spot 0.06 x 0.14 in the 10W version, and in the 30W version the spot is 0.30 x 0.12. I wonder how is it possible that Roly can engrave much more detailed than Xtool, having such a large spot compared to Xtool? Thanks for sharing! All the best!
@@MihaiMihai-zw4rz yup look Cobey Schmid with geeks at Large he did a video showing different laser power and how small and detail jobs get affected
Awesome. Did you make this or can you buy them please mate?
They are on my website alivepixelcreates.com
You say this is a hobby machine, I was thinking of buying one to kickstart a side hustle for engraving and creating gifts. Do you think that’s a bad idea?
All desktop lasers should be considered hobby machines. That doesn't mean that will not work for production or hard work days lol I use my rolly a lot and is hooked to a professional small air purifier in my office. Go to our website and if you use the affiliate links we have we will send you also a set of free jigs of your choice :)
Any idea if they will be coming back out with the10, 20 or 40 watt laser replacment modules, I am new to this but i havent seen much in terms of replacement lasers or upgrade lasers other than the IR. I mainly want to know that i will be able to get a replacment when i need it. I seen another place called swing design which i have never heard of. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You can actually add any laser module that you want if you buy for example a 5 watt laser that is the cheapest you can swap the head once you buy a 40 watt laser
What are you settings for this on a magazine?
Dot duration 100 1-85 power 500dpi 1pass
Have you found out how to do clear acrylic yet ? I’ve seen some finished pieces but no one has posted settings or tutorials 😊
Diode laser can't cut that sorry
The bar on the front is just for shipping. You can remove it.
Yeah I kind of like the look of it tho
So how do you program it to engrave first then cut?
You need to turn of smart function and organize your layers
Where did you get the pieces that secure it?
AlivePixelcreations.com
What were your settings. I bought this jig and just wanted to know where to start. Thank you for all your products.
Hi, thank you for your support. Laser type: Blue Light Power: 100% Speed:40mm/s Lines: 100 Pass: 1 please note that 100 lines works when is text for designs or fine details you might need to increase the number to 200 or more.
@@AlivePixelCreates thank you so much! I look forward to seeing what you make next
@@Crisps_Crafts Thank you :)
So Its been a little bit. Do you have the camera kit ready yet?
I been a long time, and the supplier is still working on a price, and is a large buy to keep it low.
Can you make it bigger? This thing is awesome. As always im going to have to buy some more from you.
I'm making one for a 200mm width that should be out very soon
How did you lock layers in XCS?
Select the object, right click and lock
Is to the object no to the layer
@@AlivePixelCreates I did not even look for it. It is in XCS 2.0. THX!!!!
Thanks for the cost tip!
No, I think the big button is the appropriate size to start a laser with. 😆
Lol
I have the smaller original - can't wait for this Large one to be available for my F1 Ultra
He Is working on the adapter since the ultra uses a different connector. That is always with xtool. If you have one button it will never work with the next machine so you need to buy a new one. I think they are coming with an adapter after a lot of complaints.
I love it!!! Lots of great tips and fun to watch! Thank you!
