How do I Mic an Acoustic Guitar???
How do you mic an Acoustic Guitar? In this video I put up 5 mics in normal places to mic my Martin D-28 Acoustic Guitar. I run through the sounds of each microphone on the guitar and then when I find the good spots I mix them together for a final product in Reaper.
Do you agree with my usage?
Mics Used:

Auto Field Recording on a Rasberry Pi
Просмотров 13514 часов назад
Here I walk you through the process of setting up a Single Board Computer (SBC) to auto record out in the field. I am using a Le Potato from Libre Computers but you could also use a Raspberry Pi. A Rasberry PI 3, 4 and of course 5 would work perfectly. You will need to have an audio interface to handle the Analog to Digital conversion and have Reaper installed on the Pi with a valid licence.

Harmony Guitar Neck Reset and Rehab
Просмотров 274Месяц назад
Here I have taken an old Harmony Guitar from most likely hte 1960s and tried my best to rehab it or restore it to it's original playableness. I have reset the neck and upgraded the tuners. This is a Harmony H1215 Archtop Guitar that has a steel reinforced neck. These were popular in the 50's and 60's and were sold most likely in the Sears catalog and are very similar usually to the Kay Guitars.

Brought back from the dead. I have a similar old archtop found in an abandoned house. Neck is seriously loose but heat and pressure hasn't let me remove the neck even though it's loose. Feels like it has a fastener. I have done the hammer and block without success. Still considering more aggressive methods.
Good luck! I'm surprised this one came off as easy as it did. It did break off a bit as you can see in the video, but mostly intact. Who knows what has happened in the last 50 years, so somebody may have put a screw in there somewhere. Thanks for watching, I hope you get it resurected!
V67 is value sounds good
Yep, for the price it is a great mic!
What do you think of the wa47 vs tlm103
I don't have a tlm 103, the seem to be very popular. I've seen a bunch on facebook marketplace though. I should pick one up sometime and do a shoot-out...
Its crazy how much bigger those monitors are compared to you . They literally tower over you .
Yeah, those 8's are huge! And I'm 6'4"
@@redtonestudio2982 haha I was just messing with you , good review though sir just made the purchase
I figured as much, thanks for watching. I hope you like them. I just traded the 308s out for the Kali in-8s. If you haven't seen my video on those you can have a look as i compare them to the 308s
@@redtonestudio2982 awesome I will check them out now ! I had the 305's and they were good ,didn't care for the Yamahas much
Yeah, they will be cursing you. Using Titebond II which is water resistant it makes it hard for someone trying to get the glue to soften with steam. That is why people use Titebond original with the red label.
Thanks for the information, that will be a problem for future me! Thanks for watching!
I choose A😊😊😊
So do I, thanks for watching!
@redtonestudio2982 Hi I am sing with my friend.. my voice is big so I like Dynamic microphone.. can you tell me wich microphone is good . Sing + play oud ( acoustic Instrument) like guitar
I also sing and play loud! The Warm Audio WA-47 would still be a great choice, just stand a bit farther away. Otherwise the Shure SM7b might be a good choice as well.
@redtonestudio2982 thank you.. I am thinking About mv7+ . What u think ?
That would be a nice pick, if you are trying to stay at that price point. It also is an interface if you need it!
Ihave mxl 990 but im not try it ibuy lap and i see 😂
That makes complete sense! Thanks for watching, make sure you hit subscribe! 😀
@@redtonestudio2982 What are your tips for this microphone?
I don't have any specific tips for the MXL 990, what are you looking for? Maybe I can put something together.
Nice work man, great song!!
Thanks for watching! If you would hit subscribe I would be even happier!
Kali - the best🎉
The best here anyway, I'm sure I could spend more and get better ones, but for now I'm happy. Thanks for watching!
Mic A sounded like it had more presence (high frequencies) and articulation through good headphones. But, I don't think it's enough of a difference for most people to notice unless they're heard side by side as you have done on this video.
Thanks for watching! I agree they are close, I still perfer the WA-47 but like you said, most people won't notice.
I had one just like that. Got it from a Salvation Army thrift store that my ex worked at. She saw it and grabbed it. Mine had a sort of tiger striped paint job on it. Had for a while there till it just wore out. Lol.
Which wore out? The guitar or your ex? 😅😅Thanks for watching!
Only problem with the 990 was the self noise. mine doesn't sound that noisy tho so idk if there's something wrong with the chain or mine is a golden sample. The WA-47 sounded better in all aspects but I figure it suprises no one!
Yep, it was no surprise to me as well. The self noise can be quite an issue on low output sources, once you are recording amps or drums though that goes away quickly. You have to be careful of stacking up that same noise though if it is your only mic. Thanks for watching!
JBL LSR have always had recessed mids even in the nearfield.
That's what I saw here, and in my mixes I always felt I couldn't get the mid range to really shine. Hopefully the Kali's help with that! Thanks for watching!
nice explanation, I already ordered 308p but i liked sound kali , they are more bass side.In other videos i found jbl 308 is more near to flat so i choose them . love from india ,,,,
Thanks for watching, I'm sure you'll be very happy with the 308s, they've done a good job for me!
On the kick drum the WA-47 definitely has more punch in the low end and less of the highs that the C414 XLII has. I've had hits back in the days with the C414 on vocals so it has a dear place in my heart. The U-47 was a mic I used a few years later at a major label's studio. I loved it's sound with my vocals. For your vocals it's just a case of preference. Both mics sound great. On guitar I preferred the WA-47 but for drum room I liked the C414 slightly more. This was a very interesting and entertaining test. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and giving such a detailed review! I haven't used a real U-47 but good to get some more information. These are both great mics and I'm glad I have been able to get them into my locker.
Love this comparison! I've been heavily considering the WA47 for a while now and you might have just sold me on it!
Thanks for watching! It's a great mic, my go to now for vocals.
I think the 47 is your mic for vocals.
That's my thought as well, running through the Warm WA-73 pre-amp is my vocal chain of choice right now. Thanks for watching!
That Is A Fender MIM Telecaster Coil EQ (Acoustic Bridge), Bring It Back & Don’t Call It An Acoustasonic So That You Know Which One Is Which? A Fender Acoustasonic Guitar From 2010 Is Not An Acoustasonic It’s A Regular Fender Guitar EQ (Acoustic Bridge) Fender Telecaster EQ Chamber Body (Acoustic Bridge) Fender Stratocaster EQ Chamber Body (Acoustic Bridge) Fender Jazzmaster EQ Chamber Body (Acoustic Bridge) Etc.
You may be right, but it says Acoustisonic series right on the headstock. I know there is a new version now, maybe they changed the name to confuse it with the newer versions.
Great idea I might have to copy it. Thanks man.
Thanks for watching! Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
Combine the two and pan hard right and left….
I've done that before, with two dissimilar sounds like this it really makes it full sounding!
I just finished a Tele build. It was awesome fun and now I have an awesome custom guitar. Highly recommend the new Fender Cobalt chrome pickups, they sound incredible!
I haven't heard the cobalt chrome pickups yet, thanks for the idea. My default is usually something from Loller, the special T's are awesome.
@@redtonestudio2982 I took a chance on a set. They are pretty expensive but they have a really unique tone and are incredibly quiet for a non noiseless pickup. They are very articulate and the neck pickup is one of the best I’ve ever heard in a Tele.
🤦🏽♂️

hell heu brother. what are the speakers ya used? thanks
Have a look in the description, the link is there.
Flip that Fathead 90 degrees and get a little Midside goodness! 👌
I knew B was Cascade … round muddy vibe but I haven’t been able to try one through a ribbon pre with curve eq. The idea of a ribbon for me would be vocal bleed into acoustic while tracking … figure 8 has a great null isolation. You have to use 2 ribbon mics though. The struggle is real.
It can be a struggle, but that is the fun!
‘83 woot woot!! came here to get some ideas for my 83 square
Woot woot!
How would u compare your solution to a whisper room? Cost withstanding.
I like that these are movable and I can put them nearly anywhere, even out of the way when I have a full band in the studio. I think the before and after speaks for themselves. A whisper room might do better keeping out outside noises better like cars driving by or computer fans running depending on your room. Of course a few 2x8s and some rockwol are going to be cheaper too
Thanks for the share dude. Much a appreciated.
Thanks for watching!
Hello. Please tell me how you connected the ripper with Art.
I just plugged it into the back with an XLR mic cable. Nothing in between.
Hi , buddy i got stuck between Lewitt LCT 240 or MXL Mics V67G-Heritage Edition. Please help me
Hard to say without testing them side by side. I have a V67G but not the Heritage Edition, I might be able to do a shoot out between those two if you think that would be helpful.
@@redtonestudio2982 Thank you so much for your reply. But how's the performance of V67G and does it beat the lewitt LCT 240
Check out my video where I compared them already and see for yourself! I personally would take the LCT 240, but you may think differently.
@@redtonestudio2982 thank you so much buddy, yes it's lewitt LCT 240. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it 💞
Mic B is verygood
Yes it is!
I have 3 of these (79/80/81') Spacey Sound / Super Sound / Springy Sound...The 81' I picked up is a burst "type" like the one you are holding is a Kanda Shokai era build according to the dealer..he had a notariety for letting some models out of the door...There were Black ones (rare) and the burst (rare) and the pickups (if original) are Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) made. This was all explained to me from the dealer.....I wont let any of the 23 Grecos that I own (All 70s era) go...They are awesome guitars.
Thanks for watching, mine is pretty beat up but it has some great sounds left in it. Thanks for the info!
Was it worth it?
I still use them for mix checks in the mid range like they were designed for. I think the build looks good too on my desk so even if I don't turn them on I can't complain!
@@redtonestudio2982 I know this is kinda strange but is it possible to mix a beat for start to finish on a boom box?…like a joke one or so
You could mix a beat or a song on any speaker. It might then only sound good on that speaker. Mixing on actual studio monitors in an acoustically treated room gives you a better chance that your beat or song will sound good on any speaker.
@@redtonestudio2982 vocals….I might invest in a boom box …monitor is expensive
many of those measurement problems are because you tested all speakers at the same time, so you get a lot of comb filtering. then you used bluetooth audio so obviously there's nothing above 16kHz. Low resonance is definitely not a mode, the car is way too small, it could be the chassis or the glass vibrating, or even just the bass reflex port on the sub
I didn't know which was which but A was definitely much better sounding to me over my 380 pro headphones. B sounds scooped. I was hoping A was the V67G since I want one.
A is C414 so it looks like you might need to up your budget!
@@redtonestudio2982 I'll probably just get real lucky at an auction or something, lol! But yeah the difference to me is the same sort of difference I hear on an RE20 vs SM7B, with the SM7B having a distractingly emptier sound like its been gutted of what makes it sound like a real voice
Excellent demonstration! I have a room where it's going to be difficult to treat the walls properly, and the landlord would not be happy about it either, so I've been thinking about floor-standing panels that I can move around to have in some places while at my desk streaming and recording, and in a different configuration when I stand up to just record vocals with very low reflections. Your demonstration was excellent, cause your room is much bigger and much more reflective. Hearing how well it worked there, I have a feeling it will do the trick here too. Thank you :)
Thanks for watching! It was pretty amazing when I was editing the video together how much better it sounded at each step. I too use the panels behind my mixing position when mixing then out in the room when recording. I'm working on a second set now!
i look so bad in this😭
Very nice. Recording sounds great.
The lows are not affected because your room is a speaker cabinet. It is a Heimholz resonator. The size Remains the same. If you take a speaker cabinet and fill it with acoustical material it helps in deaden the resonances but the frequency of the cabinet will still be what it's designed for. A certain resonating frequency if you will. Particularly on low end. So highs bouncing off walls and returning to the mic will he reduced. Dcho removed. To change the frequency of the room, open a door. Will help a bit, but will introduce other issues. This is why overly large rooms can be great for drums. They don't resonate low end with typical size drums. The room breathes. Oh the luxury of a large toom. This reminds me of a bathroom in music school. If you hummed, a certain note would create a stunning wave. Crazy
Thanks for watching, that makes a lot of sense! I have since added more absorption but you are right, the frequency doesn't change much.
Good grief! How do you know all this stuff?! Its amazing!
How's the radio been the near 2 years you've installed it? Any complaints as time went on like sound going weird?
Still works and sounds as good as it can being done so cheaply. I have had to crawl under and retighten wires to the amp a couple of times, but that is more my own fault I guess. Thanks for watching!
As long as you can actually hear a difference it's worth it.
I do, so it was!
Wow, your cabinetmaking/carpentry skills -- it's like watching improvisational art! Really inspiring, and on both fronts (your skills + the desk).
Thanks for watching! I had a bit of a plan at the beginning so not too improvisational this time around, but things always go awry and designs need to change mid project!
great pair of vids.. deserves more views.
Thanks for watching, I used to get a bunch of views (for my channel anyway) with these videos but the RUclips algorithm has forgotten these recently. Glad you liked em!
Awesome desk build!!!! Good job!!! Luv it
Thanks for watching!
❤
Very Nice Rick!!
B for vocals, A for the D28.
