Pacific: A Name That Carries Weight.
So a few things. First, this is my biggest project ever, feedback on this is important. Second, the game got updated in the middle of me editing. Right as I needed like 4 minutes worth of b roll footage. When the game updated the free cam mod broke, so I had to cut some corners for the final product. Third, count how many times I accidentally say specific instead.

My Review of The Wisconsin Expansion - Snowrunner

Nice work on this one. Loved your narrative of cutting up scrap cars and the history and nostalgia of the good ol 1500, My Pap and Dad both had one. my dads ended up in the junkyard after many years or landscaping and snowplowing abuse. however my cousin still has my Pap’s old 89 two tone white and red 5 speed. Great trucks and great memories made with both. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your videos
Hey thanks. I'm glad you didn't think it was cringe. I used it as an excuse to go around Michigan collecting the upgrades after I restarted my play-through on NG+. Always sad to see one of these at the yard, but most of them look driven or worked hard as hell. Thats awesome he still has an 89 around. The older ones are my favorite, I really wish I could get one. Prices on even the crappy ones are startin to go up by me. Hey thank you again, I plan to.
7:26 I’m just speculating but i think this is instructions for a fuel switch or PTO
Use less grippy tires and cap your framerate to 60fps. You will wheel lock with little/no explanation far less frequently and actually be able to move on moderate terrain even with lower p2w ratios. (Unless you already do this, if so sorry :P ) Edit : Sorry, in the P16 the "Low Air Reset" is a switch that shuts off the low air alarm buzzer. If air in the system drops below a certain pressure that flag will drop down/pivot into the drivers view as well as sound a buzzer with whats usually a pretty distinctive tone. To shut off the buzzer you push that flag back up into position, preferably after airing up some but i know some also act as buzzer overrides. COuld also be the more crude flag-only style that the drive would pull down after depressurizing the air system to park the truck for extended periods/overnight or maintenance.
20:57 I think those pieces of rubber are stops for the tops of the hood that look like they flip open on each side.
I believe at some point Saber did nerf the P12, because it used to be nearly unstoppable after being fully upgraded. Hell, it was my go-to hauler in the Kola Peninsula and Imandra, and that was using chained duallies. Which I still cannot fathom why chained tires have less traction than mud tires. But I digress. It's true though; you gotta get modded versions of these trucks for them shine the way they should. I've learned over recent years that almost anything built in Canada is built to last. Another fantastic example is Western Star. Up until 2007 to 2010, I believe, Western Star trucks were exclusively built in Kelowna, BC. With a large portion of their trucks made for off-highway use. And from what I can tell, they are still (despite being built outside of Canada) the preferred trucks for logging.
13:48 not 2, but 4 loads of planks - per log, which means you got 12.
9:15 уou say it's built in mid 70s, but earlier you said it's a 1964 model. How so?
@@vladvulcan I might've not worded that great. When I introduced the p16, I showed pictures of the first one that was ever made which was in 1964. This wasn't really a specific model yet, it was just a heavy duty truck that they produced for a client. As they refined the design and ditched styling cues from the '60s, and the p16 became more mainstream. By the early 70s they had changed the design of the cab, the headlights, the grills the mirrors. And the p16s all looked like the in game one until Pacific stopped making them.
Anyone here after watching Ibelin’s story?
@@kukac001 I'm curious, what are you talking about? So weird to me that this video is so old and still regularly receives views lol.
Your channel is so underrated, beautiful work
Great video
I once yelled at a worgen for eating my grandma and my three little piggies. I was a gnome.
Vanilla P12 really is as bad as it seems in the video It's simply too obese for its engine power
@@GeorgiiiVaampire that really is a shame. A couple people are saying they feel like it's gotten worse as the game has been updated. But I can't confirm that personally. It is kind of crazy though that a truck that's underpowered exists in the base game. I haven't tested or driven every truck in the game yet, but so far it feels like the absolute worst. I downloaded Mr busses p12 mod.
I would love a history of Western Star at some point like this one. The 4900 is probably my favorite truck in game as well as real life. The curved sleepers are just so much better looking than all the flat sided sleepers on the road on petes, kws, and freightliners. In game it seems to just work with the only downside being fuel consumption. My personal setup was to put a fuel tanker on it and hook a 4 slot flatbed and usually winch another 4 slot or another truck like the paystar or gmc with its own cargo and 4 slot. There's also quite a history to go through with plenty of mergers and acquisitions.
Yo long form 🔥
aye im glad you like it
Propper video man really enjoyed the history of the trucks and the "air pressure lever" is called a wig wag commonly found on trucks with air (who would have thought) and used to warn the drive that the tanks have low or no air in them.
ah, gotcha. Any idea where the name wig wag comes from?
@@leftoverlegend6024 i would imagen it comes from the movement it makes when there is no air, it swings back and forth Infront of the drivers vision almost like a dogs tail wagging hence the name wig wag. (99% sure this is correct)
Well done.
advice for improving your hill abilities, especially with the P12. if you're having tire shudder, downgrade to less grippy tires. and if you cant even climb hills no matter what, reduce your framerate to 60FPS or less, as physics(and to an extent, engine power) is tied to framerate.
@@tobymciver1645 really? Framerate plays a factor? I had no idea, in what way?
NProvince goes over it, though it turns out i was misremembering what was in his video. in said video, he was showing high-power trucks as losing power because of high framerates(it could still be all trucks are affected by the problem, i dont know for sure). but still, in another video he showed that all-terrains instead of offroads on underpowered trucks like the p12 increases grip and hillclimbing ability, and the way you can tell is when your tires are jittering. they could be related in more ways than that, too.
Thats really interesting. I'm definitely going to check that video out because I want to know more about that. I know how high frame rates affects other games, like the physics going crazy in Skyrim, or hitboxes getting messed up in dark souls. So yeah I'm curious to know how it messes with snowrunner. Maybe I'll have to give the p12 another go with its special all-terrain tires. when you start getting under snowrunner's hood and looking into how it's physics work, they never work how you think they do. Thanks for that info.
Pacific is like a Pierce fire truck super customizable and durable
I swear they have reduced the engine power on the P12 since launch. I used to play P12 as my main truck in 21 and now it seems to bog down in Hills and I can't remember doing that before. and also I have been on a three year break from the game so when I picked it up this last month P12s felt different.
@@espenkarlsen4380 really? I only started playing about a year ago. You feel like the p12 has gotten worse? Doesn't seem like saber would ever nerf a truck. I wonder if during one of the updates maybe one of its weight values were accidentally changed or something. Because yeah on my personal list, the p12 is the worst truck in the game for me.
I used the P16 once and withiut knowing any history or anything ironically used it for a medium log haul halfway across the map right at the beginning of my gameplay it performed better than any in game truck ive used dince then and any mod truck ive used since then but a few times it was almost too big for the trails i went on. You did very well on the video it was entertaining and your story telling capabilities kept me hooked throughout.
diesel fuel isnt exactly "explosive" in the way gasoline is. diesel creates a much slower burn, and takes a lot more energy to ignite.
I wonder if exhaust heat could be seen as a slight positive in extreme cold conditions
Awesome, you deserve way more attention. Professional editing and a great video! Never seen it in Sweden where I live but I do love me some big trucks!
Hey thank you I appreciate it, gotta keep grinding, but I hope the algorithm picks me up sooner or later.
We have a p16 on the farm they are literally bulletproof, we just use it to ferry grain from the fields to our bins my grandpa bought it back in 1969
@@kylesmith6515 that's awesome. How much is it usually hauling at a time?
27:20 "an 86?!?"
right?!
Amazing video man, I remember when I asked if you could do a Pacific retrospective a few months ago and I'm so glad you came through. Also, the longer video format is no big deal! I think it's great when you can spend more time and really go in depth on the history of a truck/manufacturer.
Hey yeah! I didn't really have a plan to do one then but sometimes I just open the game and pick a truck I'm interested in. I'm glad I chose Pacific, that was fun. I might do more long form content going forward, being able to talk about all the trucks and history was a lot easier and straight forward to write for.
21:02 rubber pads for when you open the hood
Its always the simple stuff that I over think, thank you.
I hope for a Pacific P12W3 Ultra mod for SnowRunner. Or maybe even an official version?
That would be crazy.
Ah, this was fantastic. Every time I watch your videos, I have the immediate urge to fire up SnowRunner and take the truck(s) you're reviewing out for a spin. I have no additional information to share on Pacific's history, but I can summarise my experience with the three Pacific trucks we have in game. (My credentials: over 2,300 hours in SnowRunner; completed all 13 seasons plus 98% of Austria in my first playthrough; completed all 12 seasons in my second playthrough). P16: my experience with this beast is slightly different than yours, in that it has never really let me down. Any dire situation I found myself with the P16 was entirely caused either by rookie mistakes on my part when I was a novice player, or just plain bad decisions. But I've never found this truck to be or feel underpowered, and the times I was utterly stuck with it, I can count them on the fingers of one hand. Given the lack of addons, I have obviously used the P16 for hauling long logs and heavy semitrailers. Are there better trucks coming up in later seasons/DLCs? Yes, but I still like to take the P16 out of the garage. A lot of players swear by the BOAR 45318 (sort of Russian P16/P12 equivalent), and while it's indeed a good heavy truck, I prefer the P16 over it. P12: my experience with this truck has been exactly like yours. A huge disappointment. I remember saving up and selling trailers to buy the P12, only to sell it shortly afterwards after giving it a second, third, fourth, fifth chance. Basically, after trying every possible engine-gearbox combination to see if I was doing something wrong and there was maybe a 'sweet spot' to maximise power - but no. The P12 feels anemic and gutless. Sure, you can 'help' it by trying various tricks to have it go up moderate inclines and pull that cargo, but the truth is, you shouldn't have to. This is a truck - and I'm thinking about its real-life counterpart - that oughtn't to need help to perform. It should be a 'point and shoot' truck like the Kolobs, the big ZiKZs, or the Kenworth 963. Another truck that has felt disappointing in a similar way is the Derry Longhorn 4520, another truck whose performance was mysteriously nerfed by Saber. My P12 is currently relegated to the minor, more static role of heavy-crane truck and support truck. When it comes to P12 mods, there is actually a P12-W 'Roughneck' that was recommended to me, but I still haven't had the time to check it out. If you look for it on mod·io, you should find it right away (despite the poor Search feature on that site). It's from modder 'fugu72'. P512 PF: It's probably the Pacific I have the most fun taking out for a mission. Of the three, it's the one that feels more ebullient and responsive. I use for a variety of purposes: hauling cargo/logs, support truck, crane truck… My sole complaint is that it has a really small fuel tank for the truck that it is. 300L would feel more realistic than 200. It's also a pity that, ever since I got the Kenworth W990 DLC, this truck has overshadowed the P512 PF and now I tend to use the Kenworth more. But I still have fun with the P512 PF every now and then. Keep up the good work, as I keep spreading the word about your channel! ;-)
Hey awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Damn I got alot of catching up to do. I do think my experience with it is pretty skewed. I relied on the p16 maybe way too much back when I first started playing, I used it for almost all the deliveries in Michigan. When wasnt the best move in hindsight. I probably spent just as much time recovering the truck as I did driving it. Guess my mentality with it back then was bigger is better. But I feel like I have tons of hours behind the wheel of that truck, I guess the bad sometimes stands out more than the good. And yeah, me getting it stuck was kinda for the sake of the video, the p16 history section went on for way longer than I had planned gameplay for. I thought maybe I was overreacted but from what everyone has been saying it seems like the p12 was properly shafted by the devs. I didn't know it was so bad, I had just literally never drove it seriouesly before. I'll give that a look, right now I have MrBusses downloaded but still havent had the chance to try it. The p512 quickly became my favorite after I started messing around with it. Its constantly impressive how much it can do without awd. I agree that the fuel tank feels too small, just by a little bit though. Theres a few trucks that can do what it does better but I just like taking it out, I like the way it looks, the grill is sick. Thank you, and I really appreciate you doing that, having my back on reddit the other day was awesome. RUclips and the algorithm don't seem to like my content that much so every little bit helps.
@@leftoverlegend6024 Ah, MrBusses' Pacific P12W "Orca II" should be another interesting beast you can customise to be more vanilla or OP in performance as you like - at least that's what I heard. And you're welcome. There aren't many interesting SnowRunner creators out there. And even the few good ones are a bit predictable with regard to the content they upload - truck reviews, SnowRunner news commentary, maybe some gameplay livestreams, opinion pieces about the game, etc. Which is all good stuff, don't get me wrong, but I find that what you're doing is more creative and out-of-the-box, so to speak. And that's worthy of praise and of a larger audience. Cheers!
@@TrentHavoc Srry, YT has been being weird lately and giving me like half of my notifications. So far the Orca II is decent, I'm trying to find a balanced config for it, taking some trail and error between what tires and engine to use, but its been fun to experiment with options. Well thank you, I like to think what I'm doing is different and unique, people seem to really enjoy it, its just been hard getting in front of the right people I feel like. But I'm just gonna keep grinding, all I can do ya know. But yeah, your support has been awesome. I look forward to seeing your comment every time I upload.
I see that you´ve downloaded the trailer pack I suggested, glad to see that :) It makes the game much better in terms of options what to use on delivering logs/cargo. Thanks for the very educational video. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Slovakia.
Yeah it definitely does. I pretty much exclusively use those trailers in my regular game play. But thank you for watching, and yes, I'm absolutely will.
This is an incredibly interesting video with lots of cool information. Thank you for putting it into this format for us!
Hey thank you for watching and I'm glad you liked it.
Amazing video man, I haven't seen a video that disscussed this in depth about the specific truck models Pacific made. Especially the P500s, I still never got why the P512PS exsts if there are the regular P12s. 20:57 seem to be bump stops/rests for the hood flaps to be open without scratching the paint since its a butterfly hood. You can see the hinges that run down the hood right below them. 21:14 is called a wig wag. It's just a safety device that would drop down when the brake pressure gets too low. If the pressure is optimal it stays up like in the game model. Saber really did the P12 dirty. I really wanted to love it but it was just too underpowered to be used as a heavy service/wrecker rig, even if it can mount the rare large service add on. Can't wait to see more vids form you, the dedication you put into researching the history of the models is amazing. I hope you would eventually talk about the WWS or maybe even the 6900 twinsteer.
Thank you, that was my goal, I really wanted to do this company and these trucks justice. But I agree, it is a bit confusing why they would do that, and it made finding pictures so hard because they look so similar. That makes sense about the bump stops. I didn't even think about that because I immediately assumed they were designed to hold something. Oh Okay, so its kind of like the air valves on the dashes of modern trucks? Gonna put these 2 tidbits in the next video when I do a comment response. I agree, I think so far the p12 is probably the worst truck I've driven in game in terms of performance. Thank you, and yes, I plan on doing every truck that interests me, the history of WWS really interests me and I love the twinsteer.
In terms of making the P12 capable of holding it's own against DLC trucks such as the Tayga B, I would recommend using the mod 'MrBusses P12 Orca', installing an A- engine and it's custom allterrain roughneck tyres in a larger 70'' size, but keeping everything else stock on that mod. This turns the P12 into a faster, more competitive, but not overpowered truck more comparable to the roughneck version, capable of carrying a wide oilfield-like 3-slot zikz flatbed when paired with the mod 'Color Sideboard Addons'.
Yeah I downloaded MrBusses mod after finishing up this video. Haven't had the chance you use it yet. Thanks for recommending a config for it. His mods are good but sometimes can lean a bit to the OP side. I love the colorable sideboard mod, I feel like its a must for everyone.
I agree, those mods can easily be tuned to the op side, but if utilised correctly (with a lot of trial and error in my case!) they can enable the player to add more veriety to their late-game fleet while retaining realism.
The Pacifics are some of my favourite trucks in the game, not only because of how capable they are, but because of the whole mythos surrounding the company as a whole. In terms of these 3 trucks specificly, the P12 is my least favourite of the three. There`s an aesthetic element to that preference (the P512 and P16 just look super cool to me), but I find myself getting stuck with it more than I`d expect compared to the other 2, considering it`s the only one of the trio with AWD, and it does not do well with the extra weight of a trailer. I really don`t use this truck a whole lot, because it feels weaker than it should As for the other 2 though, the p512 is surprisingly capable given it`s lack of AWD, and the only reason I don`t use it much is because of the small fuel tank. I personally like to use it mainly for logging, with the log addon and logging trailer. With enough weight over it`s rear axles, this thing is a beast The P16 on the other hand, is probably the heavy hauler I use the most, as far as american trucks go (I like to use region appropriate trucks when I`m on any given map), and I find the P16 to be the most rewarding, and to be among the most capable american trucks for heavy hauling, despite the lack of AWD, even in muddy and rocky terrain, where it should struggle way more than it does. In all honesty, the biggest issue with the P16 (and the P12) is that it feels underpowered (as in lacking horsepower), meaning the biggest obstacle to a Pacific (other than the P512, that one`s got plenty of muscle) isn`t deep mud, but a steep incline. It needs to stick to the beaten path for obvious reasons, but it really has never let me down, though it might have something to do with the fact I always study the map before commiting to a route with it (or really any other big heavy truck)
Yeah, the whole aura around the company really intrigued me. From the mentality of meticulous attention to detail, to how many old mechanics, assemblers, and drivers still obsess over and keep track of these trucks. I agree with you completely on just not using the P12 because of its lack of power. The p512 is very aesthetically pleasing to me, I really like the way that truck looks. I just wish it had some of the fancier paint jobs more in line with the irl models. But it is crazy capable, I'm surprised I did that trail without the diff lock on. Most of the time I separate my trucks by region too. I'd say when I'm in america I used the p16 as a high saddle hauler more than I tend to use it for longs. The heavy special trailers usually dont have too crazy of routes that the P16 can manage just fine. I'm really surprising that it didn't get stuck on the hill in the video. Cause yeah the place it struggles most is hills.
Devs have done all the Pacific trucks dirty
Sad but true
Pacific, some good stuff from Canada
Gay as fuck
It would be very nice to konw what gear and weapons are fround upon and not
@@rikardlinden6800 eh, it depends how hardcore of an rp group you roll with I guess. Back when I used to rp, people generally just didn't like people using artifact weapons and some mythic armor sets. But with how flashy wow has gotten with its cosmetics I'm not sure if that's the case anymore.
I only drive US trucks on the Wisconsin map and use US trucks Addon and trailers mod, it's a very fun role-playing experience!
"…No big moment to cap it off. The map just kind of…ends." Kola's big mission and Amur's rocket launch are the exceptions rather than the rule with regard to 'region finales'. At least here we have the brief animation of the train leaving the station with its loads of logs. A lot of other regions - spoiler alert - end with a whimper more than a bang. I was particularly let down by Don and Scandinavia. _More spoilers ahead._ Don, because even if the two big tasks are repairing train tracks and the Tatra factory, once you do them and the infrastructure is supposedly restored and the factory rebuilt… nothing happens. The factory's premises even remain littered and chaotic as they were at the beginning. It's all quite underwhelming. You feel as if your efforts to make this desolate place better had no actual impact. Scandinavia because here the big thing is supposedly about the making of a movie, but again, once all movie-related deliveries are through, there's no animation, or celebration. The movie is the pretext to revitalise the small city of Orestoke, but yet again, when all is done, it all feels just like another Tuesday. And I loved Ontario, but still, no satisfactory ending here either. The main theme of the region is you helping the firefighters deal with fires that have plagued the area. At the end of the water-based missions, you guessed it, nothing happens. You've transported thousands of litres of water across two maps, and there isn't even a change in the landscape or atmosphere. These things don't really make me mad. I've put almost 2,200 hours in SnowRunner - I enjoy the journey, and am happy to see "100%" after completing a region. And I do recommend playing all the 'seasons'. But it wouldn't cost Saber much to add some little closing scene or design a particularly epic final mission for more than just a couple of regions. It's a 'feel good' moment that would make many players happy after a lot of frustrating work. As for the Pacific P512 PF: I love this truck. I treat it like a lot of other trucks in my fleet. Meaning it doesn't have a specific role. I like logging with it, but also hauling cargo around, with an eye to its small fuel tank. It's strong and can be fast, and I don't mind using it for short-range deliveries. Lately however I admit I'm using the Kenworth W990 more. It's as capable and enjoyable than the P512 PF, even stronger, and with a longer range. Cheers, and keep up the good work like you're doing!
Thats a shame that they're the exception. I guess I thought more maps had finales cause I feel like I always see people on Reddit complaining about the train on Wisconsin, and I think its Maine that has the mission where you haul the big boat? Even if not a finale, I'm a little disappointed there wasn't even heavy haul similar to the oil rig trailers or heavy fuel tankers. I'm a big fan of anything that forces me to get out a heavy hitter. I did almost finish Don, so I know what you mean. I made my Kolob video finishing the factory and then started my play through over on hardmode so I never got around to finishing the tracks. But I agree, I was disappointed to see the factory still be a mess after supposedly "getting it up and running". I really wish there were more maps that changed as you completed stuff, obviously in my videos the lore and context to what we're doing really matters to me. We all like to imagine we're helping restore an area rather than just driving around because a game tells us to. Watching things get cleaned up and fixed tickles that same part of my brain that restoring settlements in fallout 4 does. Anyway. Thats also disappointing the fires don't go out in Ontario. Thats the sentiment I'm getting from the comments is that its actually a very good truck. I'm excited to try it out. I like that its got that classic north american big rig look. I havent gotten to the big kenny yet but thats yet another truck I'm excited to make a video on. Theres lots of videos in the pipeline that I have ideas for. I finally have a good flow going and have been getting better at steady putting out videos. So I'm gonna keep on, thank you for always showing support my man. Maybe we'll get some of that map restoration we're hoping for in the new road craft game since its running on a new engine. I plan to be there when that comes out, hopefully its better received than expeditions.
@@leftoverlegend6024 > and I think its Maine that has the mission where you haul the big boat? It's British Columbia, another region I've liked overall, very pretty and with some challenging spots; but I think the second map of this region (North Peak National Park) felt a bit underutilised. > I'm a big fan of anything that forces me to get out a heavy hitter. That makes two of us!
Im doing Wisconsinin with friends who are playing for the first time its funny and a really nice region the water crossings are frustrating but i like it so far my fav part is that i gave them things like the 963 and 612h and they strugle with those sometimes one of them flipped the 612h somehow. I run the small trucks 4x4 mostly the acteon and warthog and the 6x6 pike i love the pike and i dont use the pacific
I imagine being about to coop those water crossings become alot easier. Multiplayer isn't something I considered when making these reviews since I'm a solo player, its something I should in the future. but I bet thats gonna make knocking out contracts that require tons of cargo so easy.
The Paystar TS is one of the few trucks that can equip the 2800L fuel tanker, which makes it valuable in Hard Mode for maps that have expensive fuel. If a map has fuel that costs more than $4/L, it's cheaper to just transfer the TS to Michigan, buy fuel for $2/L and transfer it back. Additionally, the Glades has a contract which unlocks a free refueling point even in Hard Mode, so after that point it becomes cheaper to transfer the TS to the Glades when playing on any map where fuel is more than $2/L.
Oh thats interesting I didn't know that, I just started the Glades so thats helpful.
