    How deep was the well? I had to deal with a similar issue when my I bought my old farmhouse 10 years ago. It was about 35' deep and I didn't have a extension ladder sufficient to get down there. I ended up buying a Zoeller (heavy duty pump, similar to a sump) and rigged it up with heavy rope. Dropped it down to the bottom and used a up and down motion (lifting about a foot or so and dropping back in) to pump out a sand/water mix. It won't pump straight sand but if water is in you get a mix. I had 4 brand new trash cans set up to discharge the piping from the sump into (I used pvc), then I would let the sand settle to the bottom. After settling I pumped the water back in and repeated the process. Over the course of 4 or 5 days I removed enough sand to fill 3 of the trash cans and get me from 15 gallon capacity back into the 60-70 gallon range.

      @bwmillworkinc.9496 my well is only 22' to 25' deep, so it wasn't to bad to go down and clean it out to the bottom of the casing. Your method sounds like it worked great though.

Wooded area. Processing $250.00 including smoking bacon and ham. Put right at 200 lbs of meat in the freezer. Plus 60 lbs of fat to process.

If you are handy and can follow basic NEC requirements/proper grounding/wiring/matching of wiring to fuses/boxes/safety, etc., the job can be done as quickly as 3-4 hours or over a week-end or two, saving yourself thousands... This was my first time raising feeder pigs. I used a homemade gravity feeder. Your feed bill per bag was high. I found a local community farmers cooperative that had 16% protein feed for $11 per 50 lb bag. This reduced my overall cost considerably. Also there are grain mills that sell bulk feed. The quality of meat you get by raising hogs is better than commercial pork.

    You will not get a good ground if you separate the ground from the new codes. That's why when you tie everything at the first panel. You get a better ground because the neutral hubs the ground and then anything after that, you separate, maybe put a sub panel in. Next to that 1 or another, one or somewhere in the house.Then you separate the grounds and the neutrals

    When you put the ground, you gotta put on a new job bar. Because that's your main panel. The neutral hubs the ground. How do it's work and then you? Thanks for this video! When we got "City" water in 1982, we stopped using our 3' hand-dug well at my parent's house (much to my disappointment). Now they are both gone and I live there now with my family, and we want to restore it, maybe for drinking and certainly for our garden. It's only 21' deep, but never ran dry and gave us a constant supply of cold, clear water. I'm 65, so I will have to hire someone to go down there for me and clear like you did. What did you use to scrub the sides? Once it was cleaned and settled, did you put any bleach or any gravel in the bottom? Thanks!

      Same situation here...we bought the house property and use the well only for garden. It's 36" dia concrete sections maybe 25' deep. I'm trying to invent or tinker with ideas something that may help get it cleaned out estimating maybe 48" of muck at bottom. NO...I'm not going in there.

    • @Grazing-M-Acres
      @Grazing-M-Acres 5 месяцев назад

      Hey 👋 sorry for the late reply, so at the bottom I just scooped up the muck and put it in a bucket and had my father haul it up and dump it. Once I reached the bottom of the well casing I stopped digging. On the way up I cleaned the walls and joints of the casing with bleach and just a stiff brush. I also sealed the top 3 or so joints with hydraulic cement to help stop muddy water getting in. After everything was finished I dumped a gallon of bleach in the well.

As you are probably familiar with high iron in well water . I bet you could create one yourself to go on your 3/4 " pvc system. Just another layer of protection/maintenance for ya to mess with. We also put ultra violet on air systems. They have shown high quality air conditioning, so I believe in them . A charcoal treatment is another add on thats good on taste, which I believe you could create also . Enjoyed your post, thanks for sharing.

I strt them in the basement in those at a day old and at 1-2 weeks old I move them to an outside shed then when the size is right I move them to a house with a yard that has a roof over it. We have issues with hawks, racoons, foxes, area dogs & coyotes. So all of our yards foe pouktry are made from 6’ heavy duty chainlink. I wrap 24” tall 1/2” squares hardware cloth/rabbit wire around the inside of all poultry fences and place barn tin under the fences with about 6-8” on the inside and the rest on the outside and weighted down with concrete blocks. I let our chickens free range when I am home after all my indoor stuff is done so I can keep an eye on them. Otherwise they get fruit, veggie & meat scraps that have been diced up along woth the steady feeders & waterers when they stay locked up due to weather or no one being home. We have lost to many burds to different predators. Biggest predator we have had with chicks under 8-12 weeks old ((depending on breed)) has been snakes. Black snakes, king snakes, cooperheads & rattlers have all be caught in the chick shelters and in the hen houses eatin eggs. I hope you never wxpweiwnce the venimous ones in your chicken houses. Their bites have killed many a good layin hen.

    • @Grazing-M-Acres
      @Grazing-M-Acres 9 месяцев назад

      I always use a mixed crop for cover crops. It consists of cereal rye (NOT rye grass), red clover (which they love), purple top turnips, tillage radishes, buck wheat, and a few other things. So far, we haven't had any predator problems. the tall forage hid them really well, and the 8 joules on the electric fence keeps everything out. It would probably keep a bear out!.
