SmartCarb SC2 | Carburetion Redefined
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
SmartCarb redefines carburetion for the 21st century. The SC2 is a modern, single circuit, jet-less, metering rod fuel system currently available for nearly all off-road 2-stroke dirt bikes (and more) and offers features and benefits no other carb does: Internal float bowl venting from inside of the airbox/filter provides superior air density compensation from minor to extreme elevation/tempera...

      In this video we were using the A-Q11 metering rod, but since then we have, with the help of and feedback from top US Sherco racers including Cody Webb, developed an even better fuel profile in the D-F series metering rods. Any SmartCarb SC2 ordered for a Sherco 300 today ships with a D-F11 standard, D-F09 if running a high comp head (S3, RK Tek, etc). Baseline clicker count is 85 clicks out from full rich.

      Hey Tony, sorry for the late response. Please reach out directly via email or over the phone in the future for faster assistance. What we look for in a plug reading is a mocha-tan coloration with the burn mark on the electrode strap to be on the bend. Our baselines are typically a bit rich out of the box and if the carb being replaced wasn't dialed it can be easy to take the SC2 performance improvement as-is without fully optimizing it. Fortunately the SmartCarb is extremely easy to adjust. Most customers go leaner from the as-delivered settings (counterclockwise on the top clicker adjuster). The adjustment resolution is extremely fine as well so we don't want to get too hung up on the number of clicks - but we do want to keep track. Write down your adjustments in the settings section in the back of the user manual included with your purchase. 5-15 clicks leaner is typical after the break-in period. Oil mix ratio can also play a role. We don't have hard recommendations for that, but too much oil in the premix can give a dark plug reading that isn't otherwise related to your actual rich/lean carburetion settings. Do reach out direct if you haven't already and we'll be happy to help!

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems 2 года назад

      If you have removed the oil injection from your Beta you can simply leave the TPS connected. You will also need to adjust the metering rod about 15 clicks richer (clockwise). Premix requires a richer setting because the fuel is diluted with oil. If you've taken your SmartCarb to a different bike then you can remove the TPS using a 2.5mm allen key to remove the two screws holding it in place. Either way you will need to go about 15 clicks richer for proper fueling.

      As it happens we have 3rd party dyno testing data on a 2018 YZ125. See this link: smartcarbfuelsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Cafe_Racer_Dyno_Results_2018_YZ125-scaled.jpg Testing was performed on a mustang dyno at a shop called Cafe Racer in Kansas City. It's a step testing regimen (max engine loading at fixed RPM intervals as opposed to the traditional sweep test) with red/blue lines denoting the stock Mikuni TMX 38 both before and after SC2 testing to verify no major changes in air density during testing that could affect stock jetting performance one way or another. The green line represents the 36mm SC2. All testing performed same day with each line an average of 5 tests. Step testing data captured falls a little short of peak RPM for an engine like this at 9k RPM but we would expect the 36mm SC2 to continue pulling as hard or harder as the larger 38mm stock Mikuni, akin to what we've seen, for example in this 3rd party dyno testing performed at Bud Racing in France comparing the same 36mm SC2 to the stock 38mm Mikuni TMX on a 2020 KTM 125 SX: smartcarbfuelsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Bud_Racing_125SX_SC2_Dyno.jpg We'll leave you with this link to a review of the SmartCarb on a YZ125 by one of our customers: ruclips.net/video/2AJMzCqtais/видео.html Reach out with any questions.

    UPDATE: The power supply portion of our Beta TPS kit (mentioned at 21:31) no longer requires splicing of any kind. The sensor power supply now clips directly into the diagnostic port itself using a waterproof connector (shown at 24:19). Jump to 26:02 to skip the outdated splicing instructions. Is there any need to "teach" the TPS in the SmartCarb slide what the limit is? Will it oil correctly just plugging in and starting/riding?

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems Год назад

      @@ow-my-achilles1106 The ECU may need some time to learn the TPS voltage sweep from idle to WOT, meaning it will need to see those voltage limits a few times in conjunction with engine RPMs to apply the oiling rate. Some moderate riding with a few WOT blips/pulls is advised. If the check light comes on, you can triple restart the bike to soft-jog the ECU's memory. Unplugging it from battery power for 30 seconds will also help to reset it if necessary. Make sure you're not using a throttle tamer or short-throw cam in the handset and that your cable slack isn't excessive. The throttle slide needs to reach all the way up while riding in order for the ECU to see that top voltage (over 4v) to work correctly.

    Do you need to "Bleed" the carb every time after emptying the float bowl? What happens if you dont?

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems 2 года назад

      We always recommend opening the choke and filling the float bowl slowly when filling it from empty. Doing so allows the air in the bowl to purge out through the vent system. Leaving the choke closed and dumping the fuel to it can cause it to short circuit up the fuel nozzle without actually filling the bowl to the point of shut off, potentially loading up the engine. Also we recommend leaving fuel in the bowl between rides unless you're putting the bike up for a longer period of time. There are no jets or small orifices to clog in the SmartCarb. Some stabilizer in the fuel is also advised for longer term storage, draining of course and replacing with fresh before riding again.

      Hola, thank you for being a SmartCarb user. We recommend setting the clicker to 82 clicks from full rich. Full rich is adjusted clockwise until it stops. That is clicker count 0. From there, go 82 clicks counterclockwise. That should be close to an ideal setting. The trim inside of the airboot (between carburetor and air filter) is critical for the Sherco bikes. The trim of the floor of the intake flange (between carburetor and reed block) is not as critical but it is a good ideal. Using a dremel tool, you may lower the floor of the intake flange to match the floor of the SmartCarb’s venturi. That will smooth the air and fuel mixture flow out at low throttle positions. We hope this information helps.

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 года назад

      Lectron would like you to think that, but no, it's not "just as good" as the SmartCarb. Compared to SmartCarb, Lectrons make less power, are soft on throttle response down low, they don't compensate for as wide of changes in elevation/temperature, they don't fit as well being longer end-to-end, they don't use stock throttle cables, they're not externally adjustable without tools and they have less than half the adjustment resolution, they have the choke on the wrong side, and they can't meet emissions requirements using that powerjet. Their latest HV and H Series models are all 4mm smaller than advertised which obviously reduces their peak flow and peak performance potential. The SmartCarb has nearly 40 years on the Lectron and offers a number of improvements that put it into its own league above the Lectron which is just one of its predecessors. Trails with a constant climb, logs and permutations with traverses. A gold S3 cylinder head is installed. With a long adjustment of the carburetor in the mountains, my mixture remains richer. Is very poor traction and detonation, as if it suffocates. I made leaner, I could not achieve good results. Already on the flat terrain, it was possible to achieve only a normal explosion from the first gear, then a slow acceleration is going on in 2 and 3 gear, in a hill with a long climb, the traction disappears and begins to stall. I compare it in the same conditions with Keihin. The carburetor was pre-configured and came with a needle for Sherco 300 SE 2021, I have 250 SE 2021. A-Q09 needle is used, in my opinion I need A-Q11 or Q13. Factory clicks: 15, idle set-screw:. 122. When setting up, I made about 60 clicks and this is not enough, the fuel mixture still does not burn out, it is very rich. Sluggish acceleration and undermining, the same thing in first gear. I compare it with a stock pre-tuned Keihin carburetor, difference is very large, I think that most likely it is due to the needle and the preset for the Sherco 300. I have already written to support Smartcarb. I attached photos and videos. Smartcarb is covered in oil, in the area of the float bowl. I did the cleaning, drained the float bowl and checked the level. Done the trim on the air boot and enter flange, adjusted and adjusted to the dimensions, everything is as per the instructions and checked that it does not overlap Please give recommendations, what should I do with the settings? And perhaps you can send the necessary needles for a fee, so that I can achieve stable operation from the carburetor. There are several Smartcarb units in our country, there is no one to consult and diagnose what the problem may be.

      Hi Nikolay, thank you for commenting here as well. We are in email communication about your settings needing to be at 75, not 15. Forgive our bad handwriting. 15 will be much too rich and going 45 leaner to 60 clicks is still a rich setting. You should end up somewhere between 75 and 85 clicks before you are dialed. The A-Q09 metering rod that your SmartCarb has in it is probably correct for your setup, particularly when using the high compression S3 insert but we can continue our discussion on trying the step leaner A-Q11 as well. First thing to do is to set the A-Q09 to the best clicker position for idle quality and off-idle throttle response (under load). From there we can assess correct metering rod selection.

    Just finished installing the smartcarb last night. Couldn't have been easier thanks to this video. Can't wait to get the bike out now!!

      Awesome! Put a little time on it to let it settle in and then you're good to make your final adjustments. The Factory1 Sherco racers are ending up in the mid 90s on clicker counts, so you'll likely go a few clicks leaner before you're dialed. Keep the fuel turned off while not riding. Good luck and keep us posted!

    That’s pretty awesome. I live 4 minutes from you guys just on the other side of 350. I just bought a new 2020 beta 300rr. Looking forward to putting some hours on the beta and the maybe upgrade to the SC2. Also have a 18 fc450 and a 19 klx140l. I wonder if your 25, or 28 would work on the klx140l. That carb is horrible. I would love to get something better in it. Cheers.

      Small world! Well when you’re ready to get your Beta equipped let us know and we’ll pre-tune a 36mm SC2 for you for pick up. We’re also close to having a kit ready for the KLX140, in fact that should be ready in the next couple weeks. Give us a call and we’ll talk!

    That's also something that I'll do when I have the new piston/rings put on my 300xc. I need to put new reeds in. Preferably V-Force 4 reeds.

    I'm wanting to get a Technology Elevated Smart Carb 2 for my 2011 KTM-300xc but it is also is going to need the top end rebuilt. The Keihin 36mm. carb on my 300 is a great carb but I do like how the SC2 carb can be jetted on the fly so to speak plus the fact that it's self contained carb makes it nice also. The $700 price isn't too bad so that won't keep me from buying one, the biggest issue is putting the throttle cable on properly.

      We're happy to get your 2011 KTM 300 XC SmartCarb equipped. Yes you can tune it trail-side in seconds and without tools and once dialed in, you do not need to make further adjustments for elevation/temperature changes. The SC2 model accepts your stock throttle cable no problem. All you have to do is adjust the slack to your liking. The SC2 works great with any reeds also, stock V-Force or Boyesen. Let us know if you have any further questions!

    All that work just to take the carb off?

      We may be a little bit biased, being in the business of stock carb replacement and all... but the process is actually quite simple. The effort is well worth the benefits of a perfectly tuned bike regardless of elevation/temp changes (set and forget), more power delivered more linearly, greater fuel economy, and zero fuel spillage.
