    I'm curious about the Austrian ski season in January. There's a SKI CLASSIC, and both before and after it is SKI MAGIC. What's the reason for this? Is it due to bad weather, or is there another explanation?

    As you like black runs, next season during your travels, if you get to Passo Tanale, the 3,000 meter mountain across from the main runs would suit you, as YT videos via skiers show it to be steep, first run 41 the glacier, and then either a flat blue or continue with the another red, and both lead you to run 37, which is black and steep, and even you might find it a challenge, or you can go all the way down from the top to the side off pieste. Me, I'll be sticking to the mild to gentle blues on the main runs, and maybe on my last day if I feel up for it the mild ish red run 36 which leads to gentle blue 34.

    All-being-well for next season I'll be going to Austria for the 2026 season, and going by this video it'll probably be Mayrhofen, as I'll have moved away from beginner by then, as even now I'm starting to get the knack of parallel. Also just got to get a 'Sunday best' ski jacket to complete my holiday clothes. Note: Nearly every skier in the video is in black and dark red, or brown, and not yellow or bright blue.

      @@ChasingSnow Since last year yes. We used to get paper vouchers, but nowadays you just show your PdS lift pass and they can look you up in the system. I don't know if they're going to charge your PdS pass or if you then still need to use a Verbier pass (I haven't actually tried the new system yet). If I'm not mistaking, you'll get 5 days 4 Vallées and 5 days Aletsch Arena and, interestingly, also a whole new network of smaller French resorts in the Haut-Savoie. You'll have lots of material to work with!

    "how to ski this quicker?" you ask at 10:12 - Well, usually the easiest path on a bumpy piste, is to ski on the side of it, and MAKE THOSE SHORT TURNS. To be honest, I don't see any short turns at any point, which is a skill you should have when skiing black. So I recomend you go practice short turns on a red piste without bumps first.

    Thanks, looks like a nice run. The last time I went skiing was in Verbier in 94, unfortunately we had fog all week. I then switched to snowboarding and I've never been back to Verbier. At the top, before I knew where you were going I thought to myself I want to go down to the right (off piste) and fortunately you did! You did go a bit too slowly for my taste on the top section. On a board you tend to let rip in the off piste because it can ride the lumps and bumps more easily than skis in my experience. The other big difference is you constantly have to make sure you have enough speed to run out of the troughs and valleys because it is really tiring having to take your board off and walk out of the off piste. So the way you navigate is looking ahead fifty yards for danger and 200 yards for ensuring enough speed quite different from off piste skiing. I noticed you got caught out at the end and had to walk out. One of the other pains of boarding off piste was that run had a long left hand traverse which if you are regular (left foot forward) means you are in a heel turn the whole way; which I find is slightly harder than toe side when you are facing the hill as you tend to lose a bit of height as the edge slips. You can definitely go more places off piste with skis (because of the flats), but it is less fun. Thanks for the vicarious enjoyment (now my knees don't let me go much now-a-days).

    • @ChasingSnow
      @ChasingSnow 18 дней назад

      Thanks for all that info. Boarding is a different skill, I did try it for a few months indoors but have yet to try at a proper resort. One day I supposed but even skiing is a lifetime of learning. It's all challenging and good fun. It's only the second time I've done this run and the first time I went down the second part, still exploring Verbier's off-piste sections and the better I know the routes, the more confident I'll ski them. Cheers :-)

    Nice calm runs there. One thing I've started to do when watching your videos is looking at the body language/technique of all skiers around you. The arm position,where their weight is how they unweight the skis etc etc. I'm sure we all think we ski more elegantly than we do in reality hahaha, I sure do lol.

      I was once told it takes 20 years for the average skier to truly master it :-)

    After the coming season and my two holidays, even a newbie like me could probably tackle those blue runs. And by Christmas I'll have my own ski's, as the 'Great Northern Ski Show' trade fair will be held at CF on 5-6 Oct. Be trying out 160cm CF rentals on Tues, up from the 150cm rentals I'm currently using.

    Каталка сомнительная, видно снег талый, но все равно круто, людей нет. С нетерпением жду следующего горнолыжного сезона.👍

      Hmm, not really sure as not all reds were open when I was there but I'll be back next season...

    Sad to see the DMC Jandri Express being replaced by the new 3S Jandri Express. Got to move with the times I suppose. 🥲
