Fat Acceptance vs diet culture: Which is worse?
The 2000's was a crazy time when thin was most definitely in and anyone above a size 2 was deemed "fat". Toxic "diet culture" encouraged starvation diets and the eating low fat trend. However, obesity rates were also higher than they had ever been...today they are even higher.
The body positive movement sought to fight back against "diet culture" and embrace bodies that didn't fit the unrealistic beauty standards of the 2000's. However, the body positive movement is also encouraging "health at every size", even though more young people than ever are dying from heart attacks and being diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension.
So, which is more harmful, diet culture or obesity?

    Did you have treat/cheat meals while losing weight?

    • @Whitney_Holcombe-author
      @Whitney_Holcombe-author День назад

      I never specifically set aside days for cheat days or thought about it like that, at least not that year. But there were days when I caved into cravings or ate more than I should. I definitley wasn't perfect. As the year progressed and I learned more about healthy eating, I tried to substitute certain treats for lower calorie versions. Like lower calorie ice cream instead of full fat, full sugar ice cream. Any little changes you can make add up and can be very helpful.

    Why the holier than thou feel the need to share their opinion with someone about the way they look is beyond me. My bad habits make me who I am Who are they to tell me to change. The bottom line is only I can truly decide to change and, make a difference in my life. And when I am ready to do that I will.

    This goes for anyone. You never have to explain yourself. Do what makes you happy and feels good for you otherwise you’ll never be happy. Just remember no matter how hard you try to please people someone always has something negative to say but if you’re happy then their negativity can’t touch you 💜

The stretchmarks a barely noticeable. Your stomach looks like any fit woman after having ONE child so you're probably on par with or better than most. Legs look great, ass and arms could use a little toning. If you don't want skin removal, adding muscle is the next best thing!

      Thank you! Yes, I am working on building muscle for more definition. I think that will help some. But loose skin is what it is unfortunately it’s the reality of obesity and weight loss. No one can be perfect but we can all work on being the best version of ourselves! Thanks for watching!

  • @heatherfoster7823
    @heatherfoster7823 10 дней назад

    I agree that being healthy is objectively better than not being healthy and I accept that people may treat you better, consider you more employable etc. however, I think many people would argue that if people are fat phobic, then it's on those people to fix their opinions rather than the fat person to "fix" themselves so that others are more comfortable around them. As you know, many people are overweight because of food addiction and mental health disorders like trauma, poor coping mechanisms, and impulse control issues. Even if they are able to refrain from over eating, it doesn't necessarily mean that the problems that lead to their obesity are resolved. For example, if you trade food for cocaine then you'll become skinny quickly and reap all of the social rewards and self confidence your speak of without becoming any healthier or happier in your life. I think a better pitch would be (obviously) a healthy balanced life style will improve your overall happiness. If you make efforts to sleep properly, eat clean, move your body, go outside, connect with friends and family and find time for things you enjoy - you will become happier, healthier and lose weight in the process.

    • @andreasissons7766
      @andreasissons7766 10 дней назад

      You must be from a young generation. My generation, growing up in the 60's, it was rare that anyone was fat. Everything in society has changed so that kids are not as active, more junk food. Sure a lot of people may have trauma and issues that leads them to over eating, but with so many obese people around that means there are a lot of people with supposed trauma in their lives....maybe it's just the dysfunctional society we live in.

      It is nobody's fault for "triggering" you. You became triggered because you made the decision to click on a video centered around weight loss and were mad that a person is preaching it's benefits. I would recommend working with a specialized psychiatrist to treat your disorder and discuss with them your various triggers so that they can provide you with healthier coping mechanisms

    Ma’am, rather than selling this as a sob story, sell it like an origin story. I was a fat kid, a fat teenager and was fat shamed. What hurt me made me stronger and more determined to prove them wrong. I’m still not what most people would consider “skinny” but am considered “medium” by European standards. Use those hurtful words and turn them into motivation. Brush those criticisms off like water off a duck and accept the truth for what it is.

    • @Whitney_Holcombe-author
      @Whitney_Holcombe-author 14 дней назад

      I don't consider this a sob story! I very much have become stronger and proved many people wrong. A few years after this took place, I lost 100 pounds on my own, became a model, wrote a book, and have kept the weight off. However, the point of the story was to touch on fat discrimination being a real thing. It was also to point out that full grown adults bully children, which should never be acceptable. Pointing out others wrongdoing is not playing victim, that adult man was absolutely wrong for bullying a child. I understand your point of view however and congratulate you on your own weight loss journey!

    I relate, although with me it was bullying (physically) at age 10. Later, at 13 I would be molested by a family friend of the age of 33 years old: a man married to a beautiful woman with a daughter (10 years old) and a set of boy twins (8 years old), and I considered these young children my own friends!!!! It's incredible how cruel this world is, but it also shows how we can overcome so much. GOD hates for any children to be mistreated in any unfair way!!!! Those yucky people reap what they, themselves, have sown. We also get to reap what was sown against us, in a positive way. Thank you again for sharing.

    I lost like 30-40lbs when I was 12 and I still have some looseness, specifically in my belly and upper-inner thighs. I’m pretty sure part of why I still have it is yo-yo weight gain I had a couple of times and lost again. But part of it might just be that I started out pretty, overweight. I don’t think I’ll ever really look as toned as I want, although yoga and Pilates have helped immensely.

      Ugh, I feel you. I lost my weight almost 20 years ago and still have loose skin. I don't think it ever really goes away or tightens back to where it used to be. I do think that building more muscle and just being fitter in general helps reduce the appearance of it though.
