    I used to spend lots of my money on books and craft supplies. It has got to the stage that I have physical symptoms like cravings if I don't shop. I hate feeling like an addict. So I've started implementing daily gratitude for what I have. Rather than chasing the next thing. I realise how important food, shelter, friends and family are. I am lucky to have everything I need.

    Blocking ads wherever I can. I am also a consumer, but I decide for myself. Buying materials and tools so I can make things. I have spent enough years on this planet to have a concept of a value of things. One crafting company went bust recently. Some items they were selling were sometimes 3x the value of a generic item I already had, just because someone got their logo on it. It was amusing how overpriced some things were. Other times I got a great value there. And because I have always been somewhat anti mainstream, even adopting fashion quite late, I said No to corporate greed and weaning myself of Microsoft, learning and transitioning to Linux. I have even fixed my 15 yo laptop that came with Vista, replaced a broken hinge, cleaned inside, repasted, upgraded RAM and hard disc, installed Linux. That machine runs like new! It has ma y years of service ahead of it. None of my machines will go to the landfill just because Microsoft said so.

    What i dislike is being told what to like or desire. We're told what we should like and what is good by all the products and media we consume. We really have to make an effort to think for ourselves of what we truly want . Sometimes it does feel that we're a bit stuck in a hyper consumerist society. If not by all the advertisements, then by society and people. Thanks so much for this video! I hope more people see this,

    I enjoyed this video but I disagree with a few things. According to studies by Deloitte, Reuters and Bain, "poor" people are not the target market for the $4k-$5k bags. "Poor" folks are unable to afford basic shelter and food, most of them are not even aware of those brands under these conglomerates. The actual target market are "aspirational customers" in whom fit the entry range of '90k to 150k' of an annual salary range. Another important thing to raise is the pricing strategy. The prices in anything luxury have nothing to do with the "functional value". Marketing 101 says anything that is "premium" purchase, usually the price is correlated with the functional value of the product. The higher the functional value, the higher the price. This, however, doesn't apply to luxury goods. A garbage bag can be priced at $1000 but it's not "worth" that much, however, because it's positioned as a luxury item, it changes the pricing game. There is artificial scarcity and other economic principles that take into account. Another important item is the Bill Gates example. What people do not know is that luxury isn't always loud. When we think of luxury, we think of logos, motifs, emblems or any iconic design that is associated to the brand, but REAL luxury is the opposite of all this. The folks like in the example of big Tech Billionaires are generally dressed in thousands of dollars but you'll never know this because their clothes are not branded, however, when you see Mark Zuckerberg wearing Brunello Cucinelli shoes, you know these are not $100 shoes. There are pictures online of them literally wearing discreet/quiet luxury shoes and people are commenting "look how humble they look". It's very important we educate ourselves on a market/industry that has now become so convoluted because of social media. Everyone is basing their opinion on their perception and not on the facts. (but that goes for anything else that's on social media, not just luxury). Anyways, great video! I just thought I'd raise these pointers.

    Even if student loan debt was all forgiven, the problem wouldn't be solved. The bigger problem in my opinion is the high cost of going to university. High prices just means more loans, and we're back to square one. It basically forces most students to get student loans if they want a higher education. There isn't really a way around it.

    If I am not mistaken Legoland is like that as well. At least the one close to me. I think entrance for adults are around 73,51$ which might not sound like a lot. My country has another theme park as well but entrance there is only around 47$. This park is not as popular as Legoland and my home country has a couple of amusement parks as well where entrance varies but is around 51,5$ average. In my opinion these amusement parks are better and more fun than going to a place like Legoland and they are way cheaper as well. And these prices are with rides included so you won’t have to pay more to also ride the rides. Plus while they aren’t theme parks some of them has fantastic theming and if you ever come to Denmark I would definitely recommend a couple of them over Legoland.

    0:49 I know this probably has nothing to do with the video but that is Rutsjebanen! Europe’s oldest rollercoaster still operating. I don’t know I just got excited. Walt used to visit Tivoli (the park where the coaster is located) and if I am not mistaken he was also inspired by the park to create his own or he took inspiration to how he made the park. Tivoli is also the third oldest amusement park in the world I believe and Bakken (which is the oldest) is fairly close by as well.

    They decided to monetize literally everything, from fast passes to water. It used to be an all inclusive vacation spot, now everything is seperate and has its own attached fee. Their annual passes are so expensive now they not only have financing plans, but those plans extend up to a year AFTER it expires. On top of that they do everuthing in their power to discourage passholders from actually using their passes while packing the park to capacity as often as possible. They rarely ever repair their rides anymore so more than half of them are out when the park opens. Their parades are extremely hazardous with the crowd sizes they allow in, and your $1,000 tickets essentially only buy you an entire day waiting in line for maybe 3 rides at most. The place really is a waste of time.

    There are many affordable hotels in Anaheim - and some one day Disney tickets are $104 - which you can buy two and a new 2025 ticket sale starts on Oct 22nd and you can get a walkable hotel for $200 a night if you look for deals. You can opt spend a LOT but I have family members who go on low budgets - and you can bring in your own food and buy Disney merchandise at the nearby outlet or in advance from target. Bring a water bottle and refill it or ask for free water at counter service restaurants. Put your food in lockers. Go early and stay late and you don’t need lightening lane - take a mid day break. Use single rider lines. Don’t go during a big convention time either. You can tell by hotel rates. Sheraton is less than $200 when no big conventions - I look at their rates as a gauge. Toy Story lot shuttle is free and frequent and the lot is near the Sheraton.

    TL; DW - As a result of a brilliant --propaganda-- advertising campaign, Americans have been convinced that they *must* bring their kids to Disneyland or Disney World, no matter how it strains the family budget. The truth is that there are lots of cheaper places that you could bring your child to that would offer just as much fun, if not more. Think about it; what percentage of time spent on a Disney vacation is spent "experiencing the magic" as opposed to standing to standing in line? There are probably closer theme parks with shorter lines and many enjoyable rides. No, they don't have images of Disney-owned characters all over the place, but that doesn't mean you can't have a wonderful time.

    Disneyland's pricing hasn't kept pace with similar entertainment offerings. A concert for an A list singer, a championship caliber sporting event, or even something like the cinema have seen a significantly higher price increase over the past 30 years compared with Disney parks. This is 12 hours of entertainment for less cost than a 3 hour concert or NFL game. And the parks are full, simple supply and demand dictates that they should be charging a much as they can to moderate demand. It's cute and convenient to cry over everything being more expensive, but people have more discretionary/leisure time/income and the entire industry will continue to charge what people are willing to pay.

    • @visceratrocar
      @visceratrocar 20 дней назад

      Are you saying entertainment venues are justified in charging well over fair prices for their services? What you call crying is what normal people call outrage at deliberately being priced out of once affordable entertainment. None of this should be exclusive to wealthy people. Especially since it was originally created for common people with regular jobs. Do you not understand any of that?
