    How can you keep depressing the inhaler, it costs a fortune. I first used this with my asthmatic cat years ago. We did it with two people and held her. After a few times she let me do it alone but she never put her face in it and she was ok with doing it that way. Now I have a cat with toxo pneumonia and possible asthma. I do not have time to do extensive training. He needs the meds asap.

      Hi there - we understand how frightening a sick cat can be. We encourage you to continue to use the AeroKat* Chamber to give your cat medications as it delivers more medication to your cats' lungs. Most cats learn to use the spacer in 4-6 days with training. Wishing your little one a speedy recovery.

    This is slightly delusional. This would take a long time for a cat to be trained on this. By the time you order this, the cat needs his doses ASAP. No time for training. It’s a struggle every time.

      Hello - We know it's hard to believe but most cats learn to do this in just 4-6 days (check out the data to support this statement on our website). We completely agree that getting your cat to take the medication so they can feel better is critical; we hope you will trust the thousands of cat parents that use the AeroKat* when their cat is needing their emergency inhaler or for treatment of a flare-up, and try it out. Wishing your little one a quick recovery!

      @TrudellAnimalHealth 10 месяцев назад

      Hi @richardwebb3013 - thank you for reaching out! The two masks are designed for different-sized cats. The mask that fits your cat's face the best should be used for the medication, while the mask that doesn't fit as well can be used as the training mask. This way, you can ensure your cat receives the most effective treatment. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

So keep having alot of patience and listen to your cat. Your bond will grow stronger. We have a cat who has multiple severe asthma attacks every day. There wouldn't be enough time to train her to use this comfortably. I never used an inhaler on her and am wanting her vet to prescribe one. Her attacks get so severe where she collapses on her side, gasping for air with her mouth wide open. I don't know why her vet isn't recommending a rescue inhaler?! I'm thinking of taking her to a different vet. She NEEDS this. They're only treating her with prednisone...which they say she has to be on indefinitely. She's been on it for a little while now without much improvement. It's uncontrolled and I KNOW more can be done for her. 😥

      Hi! My cat also has asthma maybe not as bad as yours. He is learning to use the inhaler now. Immediately find another vet! Prolonged oral steroid treatment will harm her liver and can cause diabetes. Small dosage corticosteroids and bronchodilators thru an inhaler has much less side effects. Did they do bronchoscopy with bacterial/fungal culture and cytology yet?

      I hope it's helped some. It can take a bit more time to unlearn fear responses that are already there, but it's not impossible. We took in a (then pregnant) stray kitty and she's still a bit skittish/fearful, especially if we're handling her for meds. I'm hoping we can get her comfortable with treatment for her sake and mine. I can mostly handle a few scratches, but it hurts to see her scared and the sound of her having an attack is triggering for my anxiety and some old trauma. It's a bad time for everyone. I may train her kitten on the mask too, so she can see that it's safe. He's about 5 months old, still pretty curious, and might also be at increased risk of developing asthma since his mom has it.

      Any luck on a solution? When cats have already built a negative association with something, it often takes more time and smaller steps because they're not starting from scratch. It's not impossible to do, but it does take more time and some cats never fully settle in. I have infinite respect for people that do long-term and fospice care for ferals. If you're still struggling, maybe there's a group like that in your community that could give you some more direct guidance on working with fearful cats.

    I'm worried about the scent training with my cat. She's sixteen and typically rejects any scents she thinks is sketchy. I have to use specifically odorless/tasteless meds and supplements in her food because if she smells something out of the ordinary, she walks away and refuses to eat it. She accepted the hissing noise very quickly, as she's a fairly calm cat that's not easily upset with random sounds, and she's comfortably eating treats out of the wide base already. Not too interested in the next step (the giant flower pot) though, would it help to cut larger holes in it even though it's not one of the smaller objects? It's a bit hard to juggle holding treats, holding the training object, and holding a clicker all at the same time. Can the training still work if I just use an affirmation word instead of the clicker?

    • @ailidh-Bcn
      @ailidh-Bcn 2 года назад

      if the valve is moving it means the cat is breathing so I guess he is breathing it, about breaths I heard is 10 to 15, 10 breath is enough but 15 is better if you can. if you teached him to lick from inside the mask, now when he doesn't use the mask, put it on his face without using it, and after, give him churus to lick directly from the package, so he will associate the use of the mask with the treat, and not from licking it,but only give him the treat when he doesn't lick it

    What can you replace the sound "marker" with if your cat is deaf?

    • @TrudellAnimalHealth
      @TrudellAnimalHealth 2 года назад

      Hi Alex. Yes - there are lots of options for marking behaviour during training (as we would with an audible marker, like a clicker) with cats that are deaf. Below are a few examples from the trainer and behaviourist that you could consider for conditioning, with the understanding that: 1. your timing would need to be as precise in pinpointing the behaviour you are working on as it would be with a click sound; and, 2. nothing you use should startle or be aversive to the cat. Alternatives to audible markers include: • a "thumbs up" signal, instead of the click (the cat needs to be looking to see this), • or a gentle & specific touch on the cat's body (only if they were comfortable with this), • or a tap on a wooden floor near the cat to create a quick/gentle vibration (only if they were comfortable with this), • using a pen flashlight (torch) to create a brief flash (never shone at the cat, of course) to serve as a signal. Hi Srigopal. I am sorry for your loss. Chronic bronchitis is a lifetime condition that requires ongoing management to help keep the airways clear to limit symptoms and hopefully slow disease progression. After diagnosis, this particular furry friend was prescribed daily steroid inhaler treatments designed to reduce inflammation in the lungs that causes the coughing symptoms. I am told our friend has been doing well and coughing less.

      @@TrudellAnimalHealth my dog was diagnosed with bronchitis and was prescribed doxyclycline & predisoline. She finished doxy yesterday and has one more day of the prednisone. Is bronchitis a life long thing? Will she cough for the rest of her life? When her meds finish. What should I do? Please answer

      @@whi1870 Bronchitis can be acute (short-term) in response to bacterial or viral infections for example, or chronic (long-term). Dogs with chronic bronchitis will have regular coughing and inflammation in their airways that could lead to disease progression when untreated. I recommend talking with your vet to understand the type of bronchitis that your dog was diagnosed with and whether ongoing therapy is required. Best wishes. Thank you so much for making these videos. How many 1-minute training sessions do you recommend per day?

      Hi Emily. The number of sessions will depend on the cat, the trainer, what’s going on around them, the cat’s emotional state, health… In general, the recommendation is “little and often.” For example, 1-3 minutes daily, or even 2-3 times daily - as long as the cat is doing well and genuinely calm, happy, and relaxed. Less is more and we need to work with the cat in front of us, which may be very different from how people perceive training to be (e.g. with dogs, who are bred to interact & work with humans for protracted periods). Cats are self-sufficient, selectively social, and do cognitive/high energy activities for short periods often. So, we need to be careful to “think cat”, beware of applying pressure, ensure the cat is engaged and enjoying the process, stop before we need to, and allow the cat plenty of down time (which also helps with internalization of the training). While studies show many cats can learn to use an inhaler in 6 days, these techniques and strategies can help teach any cat to use an AeroKat* Chamber.
