    Hey, I just got a Thompson PW-400, the motor and wheel spins when clutch isn't engaged, but when I engage the clutch, the machine seems to be locked up, motor doesn't move anything inside. Any idea what the first thing to check would be?

    @drsfloa Great video. I am having issues with thread tension on this machine. I have adjusted bobbin set screw and top thread tension knob dozens of times and still lower thread is loose.

    I bought a PW201 with a broken bobbin winder. Sailrite does not carry the part. I have tried the Sailrite LZ part from Sailrite but it isn't close. Has anyone found a retrofit or repair for the broken bobbin winder?

    One comment I would like to make. The small chrome screw-on piece on the side cover that is located about 7:00 o'clock from your thread tension adjuster is 180 degrees reversed. It is supposed to hook back around to the main vertical plate. The function is to prevent the cover from moving when the foot up/tension release lever is operated. The cover is held on by two only screws and this is a third fastener to stop side plate movement. I realize it looks like a thread guide to "who knows where" but it has a real function. Again, thank you for a wonderfully useful video. And nice camera work and editing. Nice clear audio too. Do you still have that Thompson PW-201?

    My friend gave me one of these machines. He used to repair sewing machines professionally and got it as a donation from a customer. He got it working pretty well. I had to jury rig the tensioner with half side of a pair of tweezers for a spring but otherwise that’s it. Between the two of us we brought it back from the dead. It sews almost anything. Seatbelts, backpacks, heavy cotton. I love it! Thanks for this video. May need to refer to it later on.

    Hello: I just ran across this video tonight which is a wonder that I hadn't seen it before. I have a Thompson PW 200 which I assume is very similar to the 201. I have not been able to find any guidance of any sort on this machine so this info from you is a boon. I have had mine for a couple of years and use it moderately. Very few issues but I am so glad to know how to make the adjustments you show. I am sure I will come back to reference this video from time to time. Thank you!

    Thank you for this outstanding video. It covers a multitude of sins (uh, Thompson clones) that many of us have. I got lucky because my REX came fully functional. The drive belt was misaligned, so some time bending the bracket (a different design than your Thompson) to change the position and angle of the idler pulley took care of that. Next thing is to move the servo from my Singer machine to the REX. The Singer is awesome with the servo addition, but it doesn't have a walking foot nor does it use the large needles of the REX.

    Hi there I’m hoping someone can answer this question. I was gifted Thomson mini walking foot PW 103A . The people who gave it to me thought I could use this for quilting? Is this an adequate machine to quilt with?

    • @theminutiaeeffect3504
      @theminutiaeeffect3504 3 года назад

      Hi Beth! I'm not a quilter, but I did a quick google search and it looks like a walking foot is useful for quilting. Assuming the machine you received is in good working order, you should be good to go. If it needs to be repaired, you might find it difficult to find someone that can do that. Before you start any projects I would do some basic sewing on the machine and make sure the feeding, tension adjustment and stitch lengths are working as expected. Search youtube for walking foot quilting videos there are quite a few. Good luck!

    the larger wheel they sell im not that big of a fan of because with like a 2.5mm stich my small wheel can zip through a straight stich. the carbon pile foot pedal makes gearing down not as needed compared to an "electronic" pedal that pulses the motor
