    I just purchased my first crested succulent. It is a Candy crested Echeveria. Is care and propogation the same for these as the normal variety?

    • @PinayMamaBear
      @PinayMamaBear 3 месяца назад

      Yes, the care for crested and normal succulents maybe just a kettle less water for crested. Thanks for watching.

      Yes, you can get seeds from the blooms or if you see bloom stalks with new leaves.

    Question: one of my Aeoniums is blooming now, during our summer. (Technically a few days until summer). If I cut the bloom will it still grow back in the dormant season?

    • @PinayMamaBear
      @PinayMamaBear 3 месяца назад

      During summer which is dormant season for aeoniums, they will stop growing but will resume when the temperature cools down (fall)

      Unfortunately, crested plants happens naturally. It’s a mutation. Either purchase a plant that is already crested or propagate crested cuttings.

    First of all Amazing collection, and thank got I found your video. See 7:39 I was looking for answers after o found this crested succi that I knew it was a mute def one at my in-lows they didn’t have an idea how rare this plants can be. I actually have the mermaid tail that’s how I knew it was special. Qn, can you create a mutation from any succulent willingly?? It would be fun to try . Thanks

    • @PinayMamaBear
      @PinayMamaBear 3 месяца назад

      Unfortunately, the mutation is random and natural. You can’t create it unless you propagate a crested cutting.

    I just stumbled over crested succulents since I try to graft my Crassula with Echeveria and I think one of the Echeverias I bought in the grocery store might have some crestation but I have hard times to tell. I dislocated the leaves around the 4 little sprouts and they indeed look kind of linear. Is it even possible to find such mutations in the grocery store?

    Thanks for says about how long to let callous over. I’m trying to save my daughter’s plant. She took it to her boyfriend’s house and it was really hot & it started dying. I think it got root rot. She was watering it more because it was so hot. It’s winter here. And super cold.

      Hello and thank you for watching. Just FYI, I live in NorCal , I dont get snow and my summer are in the high 90s.After my cuttings have rooted, I water same time as I water the mother plant. They are summer dormant so they don’t need much water like once every 3 weeks. During winter through spring I water once every 2 weeks.

      Hello. Thanks for watching. They are winter growers but not frost hardy and summer dormant so best time to propagate is when the weather starts to cool down. My planting zone is 9B so for my area, I would do it during fall and winter. Thank you.

    My love of odd and head turning vegetation extends to the yard as well. I am planning my garden to include a Harry Lauder Walking Stick and a Cryptomeria Japonica Cristata, the later being crested Japanese Cedar. Then, if you dare, take a peek at weeping evergreen trees. And there is a crested opuntia ‘roller coaster’ that I think is quite cold hardy. Conformity is way over rated.

    Hello, did this plant end up rooting? I have a mermaid tail succulent that was shipped to me and when it showed up it looked very good. But now after I’ve had it a few days pieces of it are turning brown and kind of translucent and rotting. I was going to cut off the rotted pieces before I pot it. They are on the top of the plant, not the area that I will be placing on the soil. Do you think I still need to wait 10 days to let the cut area callous before I plant it? TIA!

    • @PinayMamaBear
      @PinayMamaBear Год назад

      Hello. Yes, this plant survived. In regards to yoir plant, trnslucent means overwatered. Go ahead and remove the rotted piece. Yes please let the end callous over. The thicker the stem/trunk, the longer you wait to callous. Lay the cutting on it’s side , instead of upright while drying the end so it the whole cutting doesn’t dry out.

      Thank you so much! That is what I did with the one I had. I cut off the rotting parts and ended up cutting the one big piece into a few big chunks. There was too much rot on it. The end was already significantly calloused so I went ahead and laid it on its side in some dry cactus soil and just covered up the end a little bit. Hopefully it roots!! Thank you for the helpful information!
