So basically made it like a gear diff without being a gear diff hence why I run the dirt version for both carpet and dirt racing
Please explain why you think that. Would like to hear your thoughts. If you had a gear diff, the front wheel would still be acted upon by the diff and motor while under braking. Maybe if the center diff weight was low, it might not? With the decoupled slipper kit, it "disconnects" the front wheels from the slipper and motor and turns the buggy into rear wheel braking only (when you are braking). Under acceleration, there is no diff action where the front or rear may slip, it locks up instantly, and both the front and rear see power. I think there are benefits to have from this system over the center diff on carpet. I've driven a XRAY with a center diff with 500k fluid in it, and I didn't like the tendencies it had when compared to a decoupled slipper. Decoupled slipper on carpet was quicker.
Do you think this would work on a sealed dirt surface?
I'm not sure. I've never driven mine on dirt, and don't know if the traction levels are high enough to see the benefits. Most people generally run the center differential and tune with diff oils.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Helps a lot
Update ??
Just posted a review on the decoupled slipper kit. Thank you for watching!
i cant get my rear axles out there is no bolt for it on my stampede from 2015
Can you tell me all the fluids and grease to buy that's not in the kit. I am getting ready to order mine and I'm wanting to make sure that I have everything ready for the build.
ProtekRC O-ring Grease - amzn.to/3sO4EVO ProtekRC gearbox grease - a.co/d/2Vd4FKm Stick with stock shock fluid weights. Use 5-10k Diff fluid on low power motors (21.5T) and 10-20k on higher powered motors (17.5T).
but don't forget your screwing into plastic guys!! thanks for the video though it really helped
7:00 just undo the 1 screw on the bottom. quicker and much easier to get to.
i figure i would share this because it took up way to much of my life. i did not notice the outer slipper "hub" was keyed. i was trying to put it together but for some reason there was still a space in the slipper (slop) because i wasnt aware i had to get the outer piece slid onto the shaft also. also, that pin was a GIANT pain in my ass. it was SO tight.
so with it having a ball diff are all the kit tuning options NOT set up for carpet? like diff height, kickup/caster, shock oils and preload and those sort of things? also, thanks SO much for these videos. your b6.4 build videos were a great help when i was looking at buying one and during the build. these t6.4 videos are also a huge help so far.
I think the diff height, kickup, caster, shock oils are pretty spot on for carpet. The only thing I've had to do other than get the gear diff, is lay down the shocks (all the way in at the tower and all the way out on the arms). This allowed me to get the ride height lower for carpet otherwise it was sitting at 19mm ride height. I think I'm running 16mm ride height now. Running Jconcept swaggers up front and fuzz bites in the rear. Glue the side walls in the front. It helps prevent traction rolling. I've settled on 10k diff fluid with a fixed timing 17.5T motor. 15-20k might be a good starting point for a 13.5T motor. I'm using a standard size servo, and others at my track seem to like a little more weight up front. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Good video, thanks for the series. In the manual and what I've seen the thicker 2mm caster hat goes on top, not bottom. Otherwise the build looks good so far!
Good info. I’m building the B7D real soon so this will be helpful!
Im building with nearly the same parts I ordered from Houston rc and I'm having a small issue with interference from the very small screws installed on the first step on the lower arms interfering with the chassis. I think I'm going to leave then partially unscrewed for now, but I don't know what their purpose is
If you are referring to the M1.2x3 PB screws, they are for adjusting droop. Make sure they are not screwed in all the way. The proper way to adjust this setting is to use a droop blocks and gauge. I think at the end of the manual it shows you can eyeball the droop by screwing them down so that the lower arms don't fall past level.
@ thank you I was able to figure this out
Nobody commented but we did see the motor running 0.27A when it came out of the ipa. The current draw went up after you over oiled the bearings. The danger with over oiling is that some may flow through onto the commutator. Can't be certain if this happened in your case but you definitely did something to increase the current draw which you subsequently reversed.
Works on 4wd to 🎉
Does the esc 11g plate come in the kit ?
Do you have to take the whole gearbox assembly out to replace the hinge pins ?
No, I think you should be able to access the hinge pins if you take the two most rearward screws out. The ones that go through the D-block.
Hi there great video. If I want to add my lipo 2s, is there any changes I need to make with the electronics? Or is it as simple as just adding a 2s lipo with a T-plug?
I think they are ready to use lipo's out of the box. I would check the manual for ESC Settings. There are usually jumpers that you have to adjust to switch from NiMH and LiPo.
HI @ Athar's garage, Its a basic question, I couldnt connect my battery with my ESC other end, I cant couple the batteries with that, Could you please help with that. 1:10 Scale RC EP 4WD FAZER Mk2 FZ02L-BT RAGE2.0 Color Type1 34411T2C battery : Zeee 7.2V NiMH Battery 3600mAh RC Battery High Power with Tamiya Connector for RC Car RC Truck Associated HPI Losi Kyosho Racing Hobby
I believe you have the wrong battery connector. You need a battery with a deans connector.
What do you think of the decoupled slipper on the track?
Definitely think it's worth the upgrade. Took 0.5 seconds off my lap time on a 10 second lap layout. If your track has a lot of tight turns, it helps rotate the car quicker. I feel like it lacks the punch on corner exit, but makes up for it on corner entry and mid corner. Just posted a review video. Thank you for watching and commenting!
A bit late to the party, but you steering link are reversed, the offset toward the wheels should be toward the front of the car.
Good catch! You are absolutely correct! I just checked my car and I seemed to have made that fix a while back.
I honestly don't understand how this mod would help.. literally the same just upside down? How exactly does this make any difference? I've seen video's but not real explanation how it actually changes anything... just that it helps. Lol
It allows the suspension to move a bit more freely and lets that car handle slightly better
Great video series. Very helpful. Thank you
How do you take the body of though
Thanks for this video!!! Need to fix my Rusty.
Thank you for this very detailed video. Greatly appreciated!
I have the kit, but no electronics, can I still build this without having the servo?
Yes, you can still build and add the servo later
can it be connected to other recievers? So it oculd be connected to several cars at the same time? Cheers
It can only connect to Noble NB4 Receivers. You can have several cars connected to the same radio.
do bag 5 please.
Hey. What did you think after you ran it?
I think it's worth getting. Just posted my review on it. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you for posting your video! I’m preparing to build my B7 and I have upgrades coming in to install from the start. Regarding the battery/esc connectors….do we have to buy and solder the connectors into the esc wires to connect into a protek battery?
Shorty protek batteries should come with 5mm bullets, so you don't need to buy them. You will need to solder the bullets on to your wires though.
Any issues with the plastic pinion
No issues with the plastic pinion on carpet. I wouldn't run a more powerful motor than a 17.5T on it though.
I run mine on carpet at 17.5 and it's fine. All the racers at the track use them on carpet
Pretty much sums it up. All the fast guys are using it on the B6.4 in 21.5T and 17.5T classes. We have never seen any issues on black CRC carpet.
Why do they say the direct drive kit only works with factory team spurs. I have a kimbrough spur and it seems OK.
I was curious about that. Thank you.
I think they will work with the kimbrough, exotek and associated spurs.
You can get ball cup reamers from schelle
beautiful !! thanks for sharing.
Appreciate the videos I used your build video for the 6.4 and it was very helpful, I was wondering if you can tell me if the B-7 body will fit on the B6.4. Thanks
They chassis shape is a bit different. They will sort of fit, but there will be gaps at the bottom.
Did you end up with leftover bearings? I have no idea where 2 of them are supposed to go lol they are strange ones not like the rest in the kit..... Maybe they are for the B7d kit?..
You have the carpet kit, yeah? The two small spare bearings go into the dirt kit diff. They just give both kits the same bearing bag.
Recently swapped to an aluminum bellcrank and it had so much play in it. Didnt realise i was missing so many washers. Youre one of the only videos to point out the washers properly when installing the new setup so thank you
I was interested in adding one of these to mine, but here in the UK the upgrade costs £114 (with a discount); considering the entire chassis kit costs £469 (same store), that's almost 25% of the cost of the entire chassis, just in this small upgrade part. Crazy.
I was torn when I bought mine. I usually don't spend a lot of money on upgrades, unless I think it's going to make me faster. This was one of those upgrades where I can tell it's faster and the data backs it up. If you have a tight track where you race, I would definitely consider getting this upgrade.
Which speed controller do you use? Which would you recommend for 17.5 motor thanks
I use the Hobbywing XR10 Stock Spec ESC - amzn.to/42mWhBz Reasons I like it for 17.5 Motors: Higher amps compared to their Justock ESC More tuning options Small form factor Reasonably priced Another option I would recommend would be the Hobbywing XR10 Pro Elite - amzn.to/49i0PL2 More tuning options Can handle more powerful motors if you ever decided to run MOD, but I'm not sure it's the best value for 17.5 I can't tell the difference between the two when driving (I would consider myself an intermediate racer). A more experienced racer may notice the difference, but I just can't justify the cost difference ($100+) for my 17.5 buggy.
Purchased a four pack myself for my ascent . I’m looking forward to the install, I’m a lot more confident in going at it. Thank you for your video!
All 4 shocks could use the black springs.
Good comprehensive video. I like that you constantly remind people concerning hand tightning the screws. I just picked up a new 2WD Slash on a trade and ordered the chassis lowering kit and sway bar set. Being I didn't actually pay anything for the Slash, I am free to upgrade. I have already ordered an after market Brushless set up for the conversion . I have the same set up in a Bandit and Stampede. Good job on the video.
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
What's a good shock oil weight for my T6.4 on off road indoor carpet?
I'm still using stock shock weight oils. They seem to do well with the jumps and layouts we have at our local track. I think this is a personal preference. I typically run 35wt in the hotter months and 30wt in the cooler months. If you need more damping on landings, I would look at the 2.5mm thick shock pistons. Try 2x1.7 up front and 2x1.8 in the rear. Keep the oils the same. Hope this gives you a good starting point.
😏 'Promosm'
I never bought this because it says 6. 1 so I figured they never made it for 6.4i wish company's would list the models it will fit
Thank you! I had the same problem but with the 3D file I got it solved.
Waiting on Whitz to release their black Ti screw set (I'm told 3 weeks), and end of month for AE to have the 10mm Ti ball studs back in stock, then I will build mine
