Living In Utah As A Non-Mormon | What You Need To Know

I do make a few disclaimers about this video...
This video is not meant to offend anybody, or give the wrong impression about what it is like to live in Utah as a non-mormon.
This video is based on facts about the mormon church instead of opinion. Most of my family is mormon and I was raised in the mormon church...in fact, I participated in church events, meetings and activities until my early 20's, so my perspective in this video is from my experience as a member for half my life.
This video is not meant to steer anybody towards or away from Utah beca...

I came to Utah with my family in the 90s and we were not mormon. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through, the kids in the neighborhood were not allowed to talk to us and the neighborhood completely shunned us when they found out we weren't interested. It was weird because right when we got here they immediately accepted us, and then they found out we didn't want to go to church, and it was downhill from there. I just find it funny that there's so many college educated Mormons out there but they don't do the research on their own Book of Mormon or how it came to be. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence. And there's absolutely no evidence that the story in the Book of Mormon is true. There's so many stories in the comments that are similar to my story, I'm sorry, but you say that you can be involved in their Community if you're not interested, that is not true.... also the drug problem is crazy in utah. One of the highest prescription drug abuse states in the country. Back in the early 2000s heroin was a big thing because oxycontin's got off the street, now fentanyl is really huge, it's so easy to get drugs in Utah. No one else will tell you these kind of things though

I've heard horror stories about non-Mormon families, especially their kids, trying to fit in to heavily Mormon neighborhoods. What you said here about shunning and exclusion is completely accurate. Doesn't sound much like love and acceptance, does it?

Seems like you're describing Utah from 30 years ago. The majority of people in Utah are either non-mormon or inactive Mormons. Everything is open on Sundays, kids will find friends to play with on Sunday. I think the only real adjustment for people who move to Utah will be the liquor laws, and the lack of ability to buy alcohol at supermarkets.

Moved to Utah 12 years ago. Utah has grown a lot since in a not so good way. Even with more diversity that has come with the rapid growth the Mormon Church still will not allow the separation of church and government. They feel they are entitled to control and attempt to use their power to keep control in every way they can. Also materialism has become the second religion in this state. Affordability is all but gone yet keeping up with pears is pursued any any cost. Bigger is better has become the new Utah theme. We call it the land of the Mor-Monies!

Nobody is born a Mormon or whatever...You were born with a CLEAN SLATE/HARD DRIVE Homo sapien. YOU were simply INDCOTRINATED by irrational power-seeking violent war mongering hate groups for social , political and monetary control to empower those at the top of their fabricated social hierarchy....at the EXPENSE of gullible insecure submissive and ignorant individuals.. that blindly submit to them ..... like the lady above.

Compared to most other states, Utah is ... 1. Safe 2. Affordable 3. Sensible 4. Normal 5. All of which is "abnormal" when you consider other states. Trust me, it's abnormal to be normal. Anything bad you find in Utah is something you'll see in other states which are two or three times worse. And most of Utah's problems are quite seriously imported from several idiot states. If there's riotous activity of any kind, you can be sure it was caused by outsiders who moved to Utah to escape the idiocy of their previous state ... only to continue contributing to the lowest common denominator in their new state of Utah. They end up becoming the sort of problem which they previously wished to escape elsewhere. Trust me - the natives are very RARELY the cause of the most serious problems in Utah. If you want normal, then move to Utah. If you want a total party place 100% of the time, then move elsewhere. I lived in California for 18 years ... and I sure as hell do NOT miss the insanity.

I agree with most of your points however, with a $200k home, now $600k, Utah salaries have remained relatively low. A person making $100k in 2019 is not suddenly making $300k. I don’t know the statistics, you might, but I have a feeling that most of the home sales are going to people coming in from out of state with FB, Adobe, Google etc. and they brought their salaries with them. My neighbors who bought land and built a home on that land (Utah lake front property…the lake is their backyard with views of Timpanogas) said that their kids rent is more than their mortgage on a 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3 car garage and a (“drop your jet-ski in the water from your private dock”) house. A 1-bedroom in a very bad, crime ridden neighborhood is $1600. That same apartment was $690 in 2019. I doubt the tenants salary has increased as well. So home prices and rents skyrocketing and salaries remaining lower than average, not great. Otherwise, very beautiful here. I lived a lot of places (LA, Santa Barbara, Hawaii, Boston, Orange County) so I think I do have a pretty good barometer of what’s better and what’s not great.

Sounds great. 50% of your neighbors are members of a cult that was created in America in the 1840s who believe the "lost tribes of Israel" are Native Americans and who treat women like they did in the 1950s. If you're coming to Utah to start a business, remember Mormons prefer to do business with other Mormons. That means 1/2 of your potential clientele is out of bounds.
