I wish there where 400 dollar mercedes left in europe it doesnt happen period 900 and completely parts cars yes but all the rest is in or africa and still running with no doors seats and dinged to crap or marocco or such. build to last and will run for ever if taken care of.

We have a 1978 300D W123 and it has an engine stop part number: 123 240 03 65 which is just behind the oil pan. This means the chassis is lifted with the engine until that engine stop bracket is unbolted.

11+ mpg is pretty good. What motor does this truck have?

Just subscribe to your Channel I have a 1970 220 diesel body is pretty Rusty remove the motor and transmission trying to get it running👍

I’ve owned these 300’s for years. I changed my engine mounts 5 years ago & sure wish I’d seen this first. I’m afraid I need to change them again - I did not use the original equipment - I’ve done that on a few jobs and regretted it. Thanks for your good advice.

Love these old reliable machines! My own 1983 W123 300D 4-speed needed some serious work all around, but i love that as project too. These with diesel engines are so simple to work on, and W123's only real threat is rust. My own has some of it, but in future i am gonna fix it through and through. Gonna restore it properly and take care it well, so it will take care of me in return! I actually have couple projects that have to wait to this one to be complete, i maybe sell those ones if someone who have interest in them.

thanks! great video. dont think either of these are my issue but great to know how to diagnose. My issue on the same car is that i have air out the middle two vents but very little out the bottom towards the feet! gets chilly driving in colder temperatures :/

This is the best video that i have seen sofar for changing the engine mounts. I am changing mine and i had all sorts of questions, like where to the cover arrow point, how to remove the mini shocks as mine was turning. What is the payload capacity? The extra length will eat into the payload capacity.

40 foot wouldn't add much more weight than a 36. I'd go with a 40 ft straight deck with 8k's and if you stick with Big Tex that is fine with a pickjup since they have a shorter 8 ft gooseneck section to keep it to 65 ft. Tow Piglet went over all that in one of his vids from awhile back. You can derate if no CDL but it gives you some room to step up later if you want to get your CDL and re-rate it back to it's full GVWR and pull it with a bigger truck.

Valve adjustment will help and try new injecters maybe still go for another 100k with proper Care

I know this video is a couple years old, but even in 2020 when everything crashed, this was an amazing buy and a super cool car. I'll check the rest of your channel to see if you ever made any more videos of it. The 2nd Mercedes I ever owned was a 1979 300D which I bought in the early '90s for $1500. I ended up driving that for about 3 years before giving it to a friend in need.

I’m working on my W123 as well today, something loose in the steering. I have similar looking leaks. I suspect the front main crank seal. The oil is getting thrown to the sides and blown back. I also suspect that the rear main seal is leaking. I’ve got a couple of Toyotas with 30 and 40K more miles without any significant leaks (nothing on the driveway). My ‘81 300D has only 140K miles on it. So many leaks! Can’t complain too much as the car was always kept in a Garage by previous owner, there is no rust. Anyway thanks for the video. Very well done.
