Plane wreckage removal at Waterrock Knob on Blue Ridge Parkway
Просмотров 80311 месяцев назад
On June 27 2022, National Park Service contractors removed the remaining wreckage of a Cessna 414A plane that crashed near Waterrock Knob, milepost 451.2, in November 1983. The crash site is on land that was donated to the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2016. Since that time, the site has seen a high volume of visitors accessing the wreckage via unauthorized social trails. The project addresses concerns...

Beautiful
How many native and wild trout do you kill per year? Every pic you post in this video has a native or wild trout on a rock, grass, or dirt. You spot burn every decent watershed there is and then completely disgrace the fish with you petty pics.... This is disgusting.
VA BlueRidge Parkway license plate is much much much better. Why can't we have a similar one?
Hi, If you are referring to the white box behind the numbers versus the full color plate, the state of North Carolina requires the white box on all specialty plates.
@@BlueRidgeParkwayFoundationthat’s a bummer. I moved from VA to NC and I was surprised. VA just released an updated blue ridge plate and it looks stunning.
What wonderful points! People tend to forget that the Civil Rights era took 50 years of struggle. 50 years from now our black boys may be safer but the struggle will continue.

honestly ridiculous. sad to see that people can’t leave things alone, this was an amazing historical-feeling part of the trail.
Looks cool
Yes I’ve been there twice because I love aviation
Why not leave it as apart of the scenery?
Hi! Thanks for the question. The plane was removed because people were hiking to the area on social trails, which are not maintained and had the potential to get hurt. There was also significant damage to the flora in the area.
Out of curiosity, did anyone reach out to the family members of the people who tragically lost their life?
Yes. The Park Service did reach out to the family. @@jasonp1947
Would have liked info about the people involved in planning and building the Parkway. I understand the current route through North Carolina was championed by R Getty Browning, who walked the entire route on foot!
Love it!
God bless you Vera and Tui!
very cool to see an H-34 still in service
Looks like a s-55. I’m not sure tho
@@choasisgoatedyou're definitely right, all cab-over choppers look the same to me 😅
@@OldManJenkins23 Agreed. They look way too similar lol
Neat
This is so wonderful- thanks for your stewardship of this magnificent estate!
It’s gorgeous, so serene.
How do I keep my original plate?
Where was the 2:22 filming in the film?
I think it's by Peaks of Otter Lake, but I could be wrong
That is Abbott Lake at Peaks of Otter, milepost 86, near Bedford, Virginia
what name do i look for on facebook to follow?

Funny story… and this might take a few comments. Soooooo back in the mid 90’s a couple of friends and I were about 14-15 something like that maybe younger.
We saw a few people we knew and one of the older guys was an Eagle Scout and told us about the cabin and how it used to be a Stihl and a donkey would run it into town blah blah blah. All we saw was a cabin. Nobody really knew of it went to.
So. Being the intelligent teens we were. Decided to go there and write our names. Well.. there wasn’t a path at that time. The Eagle Scout showed us a “path” to get there. And it wasn’t anything more than sliding down a mountain side.
So we get to the cabin. I sign my name my other buddy does too. And the other guy cheekily laughing says he does as well. That will play out later in this story.
So… since there’s is absolutely no way back up the mountain we slid down. We say “there’s a path or something we saw on one of those signs we will just follow it” it’s 6:30-7pm at that time. In our defense we weren’t lost we were late…. At around 1am when WE FOUND the rescue group.
We ended up hiking like 30 miles. Had a whole rescue group tracking us and trying to find us. Well at the end of it all after WE FOUND THEM…. The next morning. Park ranger hands a $50 fine to our cheeky friend for his “graffiti” in the cabin
Yea! I came here today!
I'm speechless-
I came here today for a field trip my grandpa's dad worked for moses cone
All bikes with modified pipes should be illegal on the blue ridge parkway and all National parks. It's time for the NPS to wake up. Making it voluntary is NOT WORKING!
This is great. We are planning a trip with friends along the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah - I want to be sure that my history is reflected and embraced on. our trip. I hope the materials show more diverse Americans and ranges. Thank you!
Hi, I loved this! Can you please describe how this was filmed and what equipment was used, especially to stabilize the view? Hiking on a rock strewn trail can be jarring, but the video doesn't have any of that. Thanks!
Loved Peaks of the Otter region. Used to live near there.
My group of motorcycle riders, about 15 of us stopped in June of 2021. This was the worst food and service we had on our entire 4-day trip. We got there when they opened on a Saturday morning. Took forever to get waited on and even longer to get our breakfast. Again we were the first ones there. My breakfast was so bad I took 1 bite and returned it. I paid for my coffee and left. Never will I take a group again to this place!
Ronald, we're sorry for your experience. There were a number of obstacles this year, including staffing shortages in the restaurant industry overall. Thank you for the feedback, and we hope you'll reconsider another visit.
@@BlueRidgeParkwayFoundation No thank you! It was that bad!

I have rode this awesome road 7 times now on a motorcycle and 2 times in my car with my wife. What a great ride that always has a different look. I love this road and will always ride it from top to bottom. 578 miles total with Skyline drive included.
Is a parcel map and it's current use available? Thks, Hudson

Many thanks loved the video
Thanks, Tom. Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this place best breakfast on the parkway well at least in the 70s. We went there many times back then. I can not wait to go there again some day.
I wish something could be done about speeding on the parkway. You enjoy the views at a slow pace. If you go slow people fly around you or tailgate until you can move over.
Love the photos and video!
Thanks, Ron. So glad you enjoyed it!
