Honestly, the dumbest part about Hero levelling to me in general is that XP gain is reduced in Veteran and Impossible when it should be increased on those difficulties, if anything. That all being said, seeing the old system return with KRA's 2-heroes approach (with heroes having as many skills as they do now) would be quite nice. I would certainly prefer that over having to grind them on Casual difficulty and finding the most efficient levels for XP grinding over and over.
I agree with that one hundred percent, Taurmega. It really makes no sense that you get LESS experience on harder difficulties! (At least as long as EXP is permanent - maybe it would make sense if it wasn't, like in KR1). Thanks for the comment!
Still struggling in the fifth pantheon and just saw your video Congrats!

It's not that much of a problem cause games have enough heroes to beat all the levels and still half of your heroes not having lvl 10
That's true, but it's not really my issue with the current system. I don't want to be forced to pick a weaker, level 1 hero, instead of a powerful level 10 hero when I could just do that
As much as I am starting to tire of seeing A”I” everywhere I must admit this is neat. And I genuinely hope it paves the way for something genuinely creative.
I agree with you, Mark, it's slightly tiring. But this actually took me by surprise; it's so impressive!
@ it is! But I do sincerely hope this thing paves the way for something amazing, rather than taking more creativity away if you know what I mean. I can see potential here, but I hope people will use it for good.
@@MarkTheDevourer Agree 100%, and I do know what you mean
We have players here complaining about grinding, not wanting to level up their heroes and wants to instantly level up to level 10 whoever hero they choose. THERE IS A GOOD NEWS IF YOU WANT TO LEVEL UP YOUR HERO FAST! Keep playing the game until you get far! Every game does this, the farther you go the more difficult the enemies become! Just level up your heroes at farther stages specially in stages that is a boss stage! In a boss stage if this is where you want to keep replayng the level until your hero reaches level 10 fight the 3rd boss up to the the last boss, if you do not want to fight bossess just choose a far away level a difficult level that you can comfortably finish getting 3 stars. NOW KEEP RINSING AND REPEATING FOR EVERY HERO UNTIL ALL HEROES REACH LEVEL 10! DO NOT BE LAZY as it will dumb down your interest in the game! You will get bored if you complain! THE FIRST KINGDOM RUSH IS THE BEST IN THE WHOLE SERIES! Yo, IronHide, Release immediately Kingdom Rush 6 in 2026 December!
@@Thee_Holland I want to thank you for reminding me, edited the wrong spelling. You know what I mean, FARTHER FURTHER STAGES from Stage 18 and up!
@@awakenedsoul2638 I get it man, just calm down. There's no reason to get this upset
@@Thee_Holland Why would I be upset? The leveling up mechanic is perfectly fine to me whether it is permanent or you need to level up in every level because it resets back to Level 1.
In a point where you will reason that you should keep doing micro management to be more alert, busy and to level up your hero up to level 10 this is a good reason if you like the game to have ONE ROGUE LIKE ELEMENT! Rogue-Likes have this mechanic when you go to the next stage or replay again a stage to get a higher score or better performance every bonus, power-up or weapons or anything that you go will disappear and reset back to being weak. TO ME THIS IS AN OUT DATED GAME DESIGN FOR A TOWER DEFENSE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A ROLE PLAYING GAME MECHANIC! It is more tedious to keep leveling up your hero in every stage. You want to be busy, play harder stages where there are swarms of enemies! Kingdom Rush starting in 2019 was updated by IronHide and it became harder. When selecting a difficulty they changed Hard to Veteran and this was the newest version and even the travel area on the map where you can place your hero changed a bit what I mean is its detection when clicking on the screen and the circle Icon of the rain of fire changed from a red cool looking crest to a broken lines of orange circle AHHHHGGGGH A BAD DESIGN DESICION! So No More hard only Casual, Normal and Veteran. All the previous strategies that I do is ineffective because of more enemies coming out. This way, your hero will always get busy. Not all heroes will reach level 10 in every stage you play YOU KNOW THIS! YOU REALLY LIKE THIS OUT DATED LEVELING MECHANIC? WHAT I WANT TO TELL IRONHIDE IS TO UPDATE KINGDOM RUSH BECAUSE THIS IS THEIR BEST GAME IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE TO UPDATE IT AND MAKE LEVELING PERMANENT BUT THIS TIME UP TO LEVEL 20 TO 30 AND GIVE THE GAME A NIGHTMARE MODE FOR HEROES THAT WILL REACH LEVEL 30! Heroes with their own skills, 2 more heroes, new expansions so yes MORE STAGES FOR US TO COLLECT UP TO 200 STARS THIS TIME AND 2 MORE ADDITIONAL TOWERS! 1 tower that shoots longer range than archer and mage and 1 more barracks that will house spear men and the extra militia that you land on the map from 2 make 3 three because originally this was 3 and add that lightning spell in the Flash Version! Next is also to give new updates and expansions to Frontiers and Origins! I want the leveling up TO BE PERMANENT, WELL SAID FROM MY SIDE! Grinding is necessary for leveling up if you y RPGs and Ironhide put 1 RPG mechanic in their game. In some stages, having a hero at level 10 makes it a lot easier but in farther and harder stages, the difficulty of the stage will still defeat your hero at level 10 if you do not micro and use a wrong strategy. For me your argument that Ironhide changed this in Frontiers that this is a bad game design is not a reasonable statement. Only a few here agreed with you because they do not like grinding! I will give one tip on how to level up faster on a separate comment! Kingdom Rush: Frontiers was awarded Best Game by Armor Games. To all the people here who reviewed Kingdom Rush, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT ITS LEVELING SYSTEM! Nothing more to talk about this short video!
If a "rogue-like" gameplay element to you is one that resets every level... ...then why aren't you complaining that all of your towers disappear at the start of each level? Thanks for the comment anyway!
@@Thee_Holland Dude your understanding of the mechanic of a rogue-like is wrong. YOUR ARGUMENT TO ME IS STUPID! Kingdom Rush is a strategic game. A Tower Defense game that is a sub-genre of RTS. Saying that you need to build again the towers when playing a new level is like saying, I WILL BUILD AGAIN MY BUILDINGS IN A RTS GAME! Dude this is a strategy game so you can do different strategies! Your reasoning is not a game mechanic of rogue-like!

Me too!
Glad someone else agrees. The star system makes me not want to try out new heroes because they take too long to reach their full potential. I like having to keep my hero alive so they can get xp instead of just waiting for them to hit level 10 permanently and sending them off to die blocking something.
Spot on! Love to hear it, Ofxzh!
When i first played i loved to just spam the soldiers houses and spam (later premium 3 star wars skinned) reinforcements and let them poke each other. This is not very efffective and super slow, but i just loved that anyway. But at some point the enemies are just too strong or too many and then this will not work at all. But a decent amount of maps could be cleared this way, it was slow and the score was horrible, but still
That's awesome, man. I love seeing the little soldiers fight, too. Love the cats as well!
I remember playing the flash version a lot and after a while i bought the premium version, this had a 3rd Reinforcement, Skins (i loved the Star Wars ones), and a Lightning Bolt Spell. I think it might have been my first bought micro transaction even. I do not often buy micro transactions still, but i liked the things and loved the game. I played before heroes where a thing. I later came across the frontiers flash version, but it did not play/work very well on the computer so i never got into that one or other Kingdom Rush games.
So interesting that thing with the Star Wars skins, I wonder how they were allowed to do that... probably didn't say "Star Wars" outright, but still. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks a lot for the kind words, Henrik! Man, those damn jumps... I don't think that's you being too slow at all, they're just not very well designed :'=) Thanks for the comment!
@@Thee_Holland The way I see it is that you need to be aware of the jumps and play slightly more grounded than normal. Works for me and feels right (imo). Sorry if this seems argumentative or rude, I do not intend to be
@@devilsblade2543 No no, not at all, Devil! I'm so glad you threw in your two cents, and it didn't seem rude whatsoever :D I agree with you, and it's exactly what I do as well! Soul Master is up there with Hornet, Mantis Lords and Dung Defender for one of my favourite fights in the game, mostly for the reasons that you described - it feels like you're dancing with them, making split-second decisions and countering with your own attacks. You've already gone over most of his move set and the fight itself, so I'd like to talk about aesthetics instead. When you enter Soul Sanctum, chances are that you've spent quite a while in City of Tears already, venturing through the crumbling buildings and sad blue walls all while rain and beautiful yet mournful music act as background noise. At a first glance, the Sanctum is no different - same rain, same ornaments and building structure, but something is wrong. A strange, twisted version of the main City of Tears theme plays in the background. The bugs here are more powerful and seem more tactical than the simple husks wandering the city - their jumping and charging is replaced by teleportation and strange orbs that looks like corrupted versions of Aspid spit. Forsaken spirits crawl around, hankering for release, and mysterious glasses jars full of something that you previously thought only you and the snail shamans could employ - Soul - litter the place, making you question what the true purpose of this area was. And as you crawl past the Scholars and ghosts, climbing up ruined walls and darting past strange mechanisms, you find a certain antechamber. The music swells into a glorious, horribly twisted and urgent version of the City of Tears theme as Soul Master rises from the background, and the fight begins. As both the music and the fight reach their crescendo, you really get the impression that you aren't just fighting some simple infected creature or cowardly maggot, but neither are you fighting someone with their sanity still intact like Hornet or the Lords before you, but a mad zealot who stopped at nothing to achieve his dark dreams. And as the fight enters Phase 2, you get to see the full extent of his cruelty and power - tens, if not hundreds of corpses litter the floor of the room. And so when you finally defeat him, put him into the ground for good, only one question lingers in your mind: At what cost? nah I'm kidding the first instinct of most people to go slam the crumbling floor for Crystal Peaks because it sounded funny
PINNED! WOW that was amazing, Potato! I really enjoyed reading that, and I think you describe PERFECTLY the emotions that one goes through when first discovering the Soul Sanctum <3 Thanks a ton for the comment!

@@Thee_Holland yeah exactly, aslong as bosses move the same way as your vengeful spirit or take high knockback (like hive knight or moss charger) you can multihit them, especially with shaman stone, as it increases the hitboxs
Here's an idea! That i actually haven't seen people done before yet. Rank heroes/towers based on how good their voicelines are, to how much you want their larynx to be cut off, voicelines have always had appeal in kingdom rush games undeniably.
Oh my God Thunder, you've read my mind - I was actually thinking about doing that exact thing! I really am considering it, especially because the voice lines range from AMAZING to QUITE TERRIBLE, and I would love an excuse to talk about them in a video. I really do consider it! Thanks a lot for the comment
Hey, what did I miss?! College has kept me busy. After watching the video I found that to me I have had the most conflicting opinions on this video. This completely harmless and subject video has got me feeling like that one Shaq time out meme. You’d think the pirate kings and alliance review (which are great videos by the way 😊👍) would be more controversial to me, but I have suprisingly A LOT to say here- even if everything is purely subjective and doesn’t hold as much weight as gameplay and level design. I really like how you brought up abilities in your reviews. A good ability can add a lot to a towers design. What I wish you talked about more are the voiclines. They are one of, if not just as important as the design themselves because of the personality that makes every iron hide game special. The templars have a pleasing tower. Simple, but looks like a medieval fortress. While they are a low tier tower, the design of the units and their voiclines are superb. That “A sword day, a red day” and “rise a knight” and “HOO AH“ Are just so amazing and sexy. And that’s just one example. Every single tower has at least ONE memorable voicline that really adds to the feel of the tower. Anyways, let’s get into the nitty gritty of what I like and dislike. Arcane wizard: ok, you know that Shaq meme? Well, I gotta call a time out because the arcane wizards are not evil. Their towers might look a little intimidating, but their voice lines are whimsical and fantastical! If anything, the arcane wizards in alliance only expand upon this, which to me makes them a better tower (and also they are way better in alliance. They got a real glow up eh?) compared to this to the kekromancer with the “with me I bring death!” And “darkness rises” and “fear the reaper!”. Much more darker tones there. What in trying to say is that I believe that the arcane wizards are better being more fantastical whereas towers such as the kekromancer and the eldritch channeler can have the darker undertones. Speaking of which. Eldritch channeler to me is a cooler blazing gem. I mean, just ask Alex playz, he likes the tower too! Crossbow fort. I know the shingles may give off an Asian vibe, but I don’t think they are Asian at all! Rather, they have a gothic European aesthetic that I really dig. They’re voiclines also give an off a special type of whimsy to them as well. Especially the “blackbird, flyyyyyy!” One. They’re like the alt/goth/emo/punk/egirl/whatever-the-fuck girl in you school but instead of being a narcissistic jerk she’s a really cool person to do work with and listen to music together. Weird wood. Funny tree is funny. Simple as that. Deep devils reef. If I could, I would beg and plead ironhide to bring back the deep devils and Corsair brother hood in an alliance campaign. I mean how cool would it be to see Captain blackthorne and junpai fight side by side?! I’d pay top dollar to see that!!! Dank knights: I don’t know why their tower is a giant helmet but whatever. At least they got great voiclines! Alliance and vengeance (and Junkworld): Say what you will about the new tower system; more towers allow for more creative designs. Even if you may not like the towers in alliance as much as I do I think they have their merits. In fact, call this blasphemy, but alliance has my favorite tower designs in the series. Seriously I love them. And the references are still spot on- I’ve already memorized most of them by now! I think this also is due to Junkworld. It had a couple of experimental designs they played around with, and that really shows with the later levels. It peaked with the underground levels giving us the Sumo Onsen, Magnetron tower, and the metal head rats. But before that there was the WiFi babies, the underground warriors, the drone squad, and plenty of other designs that definitely influenced both alliance and a little bit of vengeance. I think that’s all I have to say (it’s 1:27 at night at the time of typing this) so excuse me if I sound a little unhinged, but I hope what I said made sense. The art, music, and voiclines are what makes the kingdom rush series towers so special. Now for the next video I’d like to see a ranking of every thumbnail of vodukes streams. May Elaine have mercy on your soul. Oh and don’t get me started on the bonus towers. (SCUMM bar and mad scientist towers are the best ok bye) (Alright, back to making Torres and Blackthorne Propaganda)
Hi Mark! Glad to hear you're getting things done in college; what are you studying? Wow, what a chunker of a comment! I just finished reading it, and I love hearing your thoughts. Let me respond to a few things: 1. I agree 100% that the voice lines are important! I simply chose not to take them into consideration in this video, mainly because I've considered ranking them separately in another video. Had I included voice lines, my ratings probably would've been quite different! 2. Another person brought up the Arcane Wizard not being evil as well, and I just wonder why I think it is, then, when you two don't... maybe I'm wrong. But still, I don't like the grey-and-purple colours of the Alliance version nearly as much as the black-and-purple of the original. 3. Hmm you might be right about the Crossbow Fort. Can't say I know enough about Gothic Europe to confirm your theory, but could be true! 4. I really want to play Junkworld at some point! Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for all the other points too, I enjoyed reading them a lot. And even though you found my takes more controversial than previous videos, I'm still glad you decided to watch and comment!

My favorite towers are the deep devils reef, weirdwood, and arborean emissary. I’m always a sucker for water themes so deep devils reef is always my go to tower in vengeance simply for it’s esthetic and theme, I hope we can get more water themed towers in future kingdom rush installments and alliance updates. Weirdwood and arborean emissary are unique because they’re sentient towers. Towers in kingdom rush are all buildings for units to stand on or requiring units to operate its attacks,so seeing a sentient tower that could operate itself is really cool in my book. Also an extra note; Arch-Druid henge and ignis altar are great in designing placements for the units, most of the time units just Stand on top of the tower which is really boring to look at , so seeing the units sitting/standing in different heights makes it more cool to look.
Love those insights, Rafael! Definitely a good point that Weirdwood and Emissary are sentient, and I hadn't even considered the placement of the units on top of the towers (although I guess the Bombard always did this, but still something to consider!) Thanks for the comment!

I mean I don’t think I have much to add so I’ll just say this with the few things I disagree with. I prefer the new paladins over the old since the older paladins look much more like “kids first knight” if we are going by pure design and lead by example paladin is just cool looking. Arcane wizard never looked evil or anything, he looked goofy at worst (goofy in a good way) the alliance design is a fine evolution it’s not too drastic of a change and none of the changes really fundamentally change the aspect of the original in a negative way. And that’s kinda it. Fish only run when? #FishdomRush
Thanks for the comment, Plagued! Always love to hear your take on my takes (hah). I actually agree with you about the knights looking like "kids first knights", so in that sense, the newer version is better. Fish Run ;D

The broken floating rock islands and I guess her clothing also invoke some sort of "wild, unstable magic", which is a contrast to the other mage towers in previous games, and the High Elven Mage, as they appear more scholarly, learned old masters of magic. Even Necromancer feels like he harnessed his power from studying the dark arts. Also the Forest Keepers are definitely centaur like, and there's actually a word for deer-centaur: Cervitaurs.
Wow thanks a lot for the insights, Nikolai. I like your take on the Wild Magus and her more studious counterparts! Thanks for the comment! <3
problem with the towers in origing: "looks elvish" arch druid henge is just the druid it upgtades from. it's just as bad as big bertha
I think Arch Druid is more unique than Big Bertha, but I do partially agree with your point. It's the reason why I didn't put it in S-tier
- For Witches, poison is true damage but cannot stack, stun is magic damage but is single hit so multiple witches hitting the same target actually does something. - The Sandworm is kind of like an elder sandworm that summons a younger one, which hides underneath the path and whose mouth enemies walk over.
Oh yeah, of course poison would be true damage! I guess those two arguments do make sense for how you would choose which to use
Really liked the idea, great video! Personally, I would put Templars in D tier, because they're more boring than Paladins and their gimmick of ressurecting is boring and doesn't make sense in the design. I'll also put Wild Magus higher. They're supposed to be Elven sprcerers that channel wild, uncontrollable magic, and their design conveys that really well on top of being very cool to begin with: Their fast attack rate feels like wild, raw magic compared to the slow, controlled attacks of basic mage tower; Their insta-kill overflows an enemy and causes them to combust, unlike the controlled single target death rays of Blazing Gem and Arcane Wizard, and also the animation for the ability is absolutely stunning; And just the bits of rocks floating around the tower - including the tower itself, which is a floating rock - manage to nail the wild magic aesthetic. Great video!
I do see the argument for putting Templars in D. I think I might've put them a bit too high... You make a very good case for the Wild Magus! I will say, I still really dislike the fact that can't visually tell when her attack starts to deal more damage pr. fireball. Maybe if she started attacking more quickly, or the fireballs changed colour like the Blazing Gem once they began to deal more damage, I would've put her in A or S! But anyway, thanks a lot for the comment!
@@Thee_Holland Just want to clarify, I was not arguing you should change your list. Tower design is completely subjective, so your list should reflect your own opinion and feelings about the towers at the time of its making, regardless of the opinions of other people.
Overall, amazing tier list and video! I loved the way you explained your thoughts on each tower and I really enjoyed watching. Demon Pit best tower!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Howard! And I'm glad I put your favourite tower in S-tier!
“There is some kind of ball in the pit” demons gotta have fun too sometimes lol
They very much do, they very much do...!
