Total Solar Eclipse
The Total Eclipse on April 8, 2024 was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Watching the Sun disappear slowly as the Moon crossed over it, clouds rolling in and out, the strange orange hues just before and after totality... What an adventure.
Join me as I prepare and image that day, and share in my excitement. I promise you this, This will not be my last eclipse. I am hooked for life!

ADC (Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector) Tutorial
Просмотров 13 тыс.2 года назад
A long-overdo tutorial on how I use the ZWO Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector. ZWO Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector is used to reduce the effect of atmospheric dispersion on lunar and planetary images. Light from any star or planet that enters our atmosphere at an angle will suffer refraction effects which bend to light to a slightly steeper angle. This refraction effect makes the object appear ...

#Bigbendnationalpark WARNING: Some graphic language mixed with really funny conversations. Finally, after several months, here is the mini-documentary of my Dad's first trip to the Big Bend area of Texas. On this 5 day adventure we explore Big Bend Ranch State Park, Big Bend National Park, Terlingua, Lajitas, and he finally takes in the night sky the way it was meant to be seen. I hope you enjo...
Milky Way Nightscapes in Big Bend National Park

#astrophotography #space Join me in Big Bend National Park as I photograph and edit basic Milky Way nightscapes. While this channel has been primarily focused on Solar System imaging with a telescope, getting out to west Texas is one of my most enjoyable and relaxing times. #astrophotography #space Saturn Opposition is upon us! Saturn is the ringed jewel of our Solar System. It is a visually stunning planet and with practice can be captured in amazing detail without having to leave your house. Unexpected Maintenance on my Dobsonian
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.4 года назад
#ISS #astrophotography I haven't cleaned my Dobsonian mirror in a few years since I wasn't using it all that much. But with the Winter season coming and the knowledge of shooting planets and the International Space Station with it, I figured I could give the mirror some TLC. What I wasn't expecting was that the flocking material would fall apart during disassembly which left me with a few choic...
High Resolution Color Lunar Imaging

#moonphotography #lunarimaging Join me as we image the Moon in high resolution and transform the bleak grey landscape into a colorful display. By taking high resolution data up close with a planetary camera of the lunar surface of craters, mountains, and maria, the result is a sharp monochromatic image we can use as a detail (luminance) layer. By taking DSLR data and stretching the colors like ...
How to Photograph a Mineral Moon
Просмотров 59 тыс.4 года назад
Mineral Moon! What is it exactly? Looking at the Moon visually, we see it glowing intensely against the dark background of space. In reality, the Moon is quite dark and almost black in some areas. The intense light from the Sun brightens the surface so much it appears almost white from Earth. In pictures, with the right processing, we can actually bring out the colors of the minerals that compo...
How To Collimate a Dobsonian Telescope
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.4 года назад
Join me on this quick tutorial about collimating a Dobsonion/Reflecting Telescope. We will go through the steps on using a basic laser collimator and align the secondary mirror to the primary, and then the primary with the collimator. The telescope used is the Apertura AD12 dobsonian; an ABSOLUTE beast for the price. Oh, and I also imaged Mars with the dob after collimation to make sure it was ...

    New to astrophotography............super video and very helpful............am I correct in assuming that to get images to edit for a "mineral moon" they have to be taken with a standard camera that shoots in RAW, and not a dedicated astro camera that saves the images as .fit files?

    • @InsertAstroNameHere
      @InsertAstroNameHere 7 месяцев назад

      I don’t personally have experience with .FIT files, but if they are uncompressed and you can convert to TIFF, then you SHOULD be able to follow from there. But I’m just guessing.

    This was helpfull. I'm a Newbe and wondering how insertion of the ADC affects the back-focus setup. On the C6" the back focus is 5" or 127mm beond the Visual Back. Doen't the ADC move the camera beyond that perfect focal point?

    • @InsertAstroNameHere
      @InsertAstroNameHere 7 месяцев назад

      For planetary or Lunar imaging it shouldn’t matter. Assuming its a standard SCT and not the Edge HD version. Then I believe it matters due to the field flattener.

    Seeing you sweating makes me glad I don't live in Alabama anymore. But then I remembered that time I bought a new camera and briefly got confused into thinking it was a cooled model because the sensor was reading -10C. Nope, just that cold out here! The camera loves it, the astronomer not so much.
