Webinar: Building a Glasgow that Supports Breastfeeding
Glasgow Food Policy Partnership partnered up with Glasgow City HSCP and NHS GGC to put on this webinar during Scottish Breastfeeding Week 2024, which took place 10 -16th June.
We know that breastfeeding is a healthy, cheap and sustainable way for babies to be fed. We also know that many women want to breastfeed, but many also stop before they want to. There is a huge amount of work being done to change this in Glasgow and throughout Scotland, both on an individual and societal level, which aims to improve support for families and make breastfeeding the normal way to feed a baby.
You can also find two breastfeeding focused episodes of The Good Food For Glasgow podcast which further explore t...

It has become all too evident in recent months that the world, as well as local society, is being subjected to an increasing pace of shocks. These range from natural events, such as earthquakes, eruptions, super-storms and large scale flooding, to societal shocks including financial crises, budget cuts and unrest with outworn regimes and politics. At the local level we see escalating fuel and f...

Public policy debates in industrialized societies tend to evolve around two instrumental subsystems: the economy and the welfare state. The ultimate goal of these subsystems - the well-being of citizens - receives very little attention. It seems as if policy makers assume that they understand it so well that it needs no special reflection. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The determinants o...

Building resilience helps a person to overcome obstacles more easily and reduces fears and insecurities as they will have the necessary tools and knowledge how to navigate the challenges that can appear during this human journey. The ultimate foundation of resilience is a spiritual perspective which is founded on the knowledge that I am an eternal spiritual being residing within a temporary material body. Identifying with the body as being the self will cause unnecessary fears and insecurities. But discovering my true identity and nature will lead to harmony and lasting joy.

I think that Embassy Regal & Tennents Lager have some portion of blame here, coal fires up until 1970´s...auto immune diseases associated with poverty. Larger proportion of the population that leave school at 15 uneducated. Bad weather, it rains 300 days a year. You get the feeling that there is a conspiracy against Glasgow & its people...what did we do to deserve that ?

This video shows that local people of all ages and backgrounds can come together and make things work, they had to be proactive and speak out but it worked and brought the community together.

This is a great articulation of resilience. The language of between us and beyond us, is a very important contribution to common understanding. I have often talked through a theory to do with how come some people become homeless when others don't, and i talk through the sense that we can all have major events that hit us, and can affect us for months. At these times we lean on either Personal resources -the way we think and mental and physical habits we have learnt. or we lean on Inter-Personal resources - friends, family, community. or we lean on physical resources - money & buildings. There are many people who have few of many of these.

Excellent. The problem always is that these things cannot be seen - therefore they are sometimes not taken into consideration.
