The vehicle from which the parts were disassembled stood for over 25 years in the same yard without movement. I didn't want to throw the engine ...

    Hello there. The cover you have is the right one.. a broken 2501.65; it is the one for steering wheel shifting as fitted on the 204 and first 304. I do not know the series number of the engine/gearbox you have but after 77 i think the shape and gasket changes; I still think it is possible to use the old covers. Just get a new cover and linkiges :) Hope it helps!

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 16 дней назад

      Hi it's 2501.65 the problem is that this is not a 304 or 204 gearbox, it's a 305 gearbox.. I also have a newer model (from the bb6) I would try that one as well.. i think that's the reason it's deformed.

  • @laurentherjean9165
    @laurentherjean9165 17 дней назад

    I believe you need cover 2501.65 - this needs confirming as I am not sure I understand the parts catalogue completely. Apparently 2501.65 was fitted on most of the 204's XK4s, all the 204's XK5s and all the 304s with a column change. 2501.65 is currently available from Série 04.

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 17 дней назад

      250165 is right for the BB6, but in this case it's a BB8, the cover I showed on the video is probably the right one - 250170\71, but need to adjust right linkage to that. it would not be easy...

  • @jfv65
    @jfv65 17 дней назад

    interesting car. Those rear light clusters are not Euro specifications. We got the square rear light clusters on the 304 and the 204 had narrower horizontal tail light clusters and different headlights as well.

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 17 дней назад

      Its not from the peugeot. We got here the same rear lights, but somehow this car ended up with a fiat backlights... I invite you to watch some more videos on my channel about this one and the other 204 I restored. (Episode no. 5 has been uploaded right now)

    Are you sure it was a 204 originally? OK, it has the 304 fenders, headlights and grille, but it also has a 304 dashboard. That's a lot of changes. (edit: it has a column change, which is clearly a 204 feature - all 304 cabriolets had a floor change).

    Hi there, check your fuel pump as the filter should have been placed before it and not after it so it probably got a lot of the junk. I would flush the fuel lines and clear the reservoir. The gearbox cover seems correct for the BB6 gearbox. The gasket was probably leaking so they did an ugly seal on it.

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 27 дней назад

      Thanks! I just went to the car and did that as you suggested. that was a good idea, I would show what i did on the next video. the BB6 is the right one that goes on the XL5? (I guess this engine is from a 305)

    • @tiesto1102
      @tiesto1102 27 дней назад

      Ah yes it is not the original xl3s but an xl5 engine.. after 75 différent gearbox bb8 but if I am correct only double gearbox linkage for xl5s engine so this looks correct to me

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 27 дней назад

      also the xl3 wasn't original here since it's a 204 initially :) I see that the bb8 have a different cover, number 250171. the one on this cab looks from the BB6, which a rod end and not a ball insert (I hope I'm using understandable terms..)

    • @tiesto1102
      @tiesto1102 26 дней назад

      Oh this a one of a kind rebuild! How is the engine mounted on the bottom? The interior is from a 304 but you have a gear lever at the steering wheel and not on the floor which changes the whole mechanism at the gearbox… The Bosch spark plugs are correct for XL5, you can run BP6EFS from NGK as well…

    • @DIY-Mechanic
      @DIY-Mechanic 26 дней назад

      @@tiesto1102 yeah I guess that on the 90s the 305 was very common here in oppose to 204 or 304 cab which were only imported personally by a few people. I havent checked how the engine is mounted yet But the distributor is from a 504/404 which have a different advanced timing... so the spark plugs are not the only issue. For the lever - i think it is just as to replace the cover and put linkage with the correct length.

    Bonjour from New Zealand. Love these oldtime Peugeots🦁, we had many in Uganda during my childhood in the 1960's to early 70's. The business people, school teachers, public servants etc loved them. The 'familial' models were used as long distace taxis. In the francophone countries Peugeots were almost the only vehicles. They were built to last, the engine and the 🌻mechanicals were 🏵solid and the bodywork. My favorite models are the 203,403, the smaller than your car, 104(I think) and this 203. The 404, 504 and the six cylinder 604 were good too but for body shape I like those I listed. How is the parts availability, OEM and aftermarket?☘

      Hi. Thank you for your comment (lots of people watch, but rarely comment...) Some parts are very hard to find (like the door trim in my interior color, some exterior strips etc) and some are very common and easy to find. Where im living there are barely any parts, so I ordered everything from abroad.

      @@DIY-Mechanic Here's an idea - could you, if possible, make a series of videos on those old French companies who supplied parts for Peugeot, Citroen, Renalt etc. Companies like Paris-Rhone, S.E.V, etc. Tell their history, where they were manufacturing, the workers, if they are still operating etc. These short, videos of about 10-15 minutes around your Peugeot would be interesting and bump up the viewers and subs.

      Thanks for the comment. Would like to know where are you from. This is a 72 model, after most changes. It has the xk4 engine with the second gearbox which doesnt have reverse light. The washer pump is a add-on i did myself using wiring harness from a 76' model. The steering is of the "mid range" model, but you should wait for the next video to see the new one... Also, backlights are the 3rd and latest model, as well as the grille. Back then, they used to change things very often while an existing model was on sale...
