Little Something by Sting and Melody Gardot
A way to play the acoustic guitar part in "Little Something" as a solo guitar part instead of 2 guitars. Let me know if you would like me to make a lesson on this. Thanks!

This lesson is based on how I believe one can sweep pick over classic and southern rock without feeling guilty or ashamed! ha!

Marshall Origin 20 out of the box test drive. Presence on 5, Master on 8, Bass/mid/treb on 5, Tilt on 5, Gain on 8. I'm not sure I like this setting as my bridge pup gets a bit ice picky but it might be the speaker Im using. What's your favorite setting for this amp?

This is part 1 of a guitar tutorial covering the entire guitar work of Jimmy Page during his performance of "I Can't Quit You Baby" in Texas 1969. I consider this performance to be a "Jimmy Page blues lick ultimate glossary" as it contains a plethora of iconic blues riffs all in one song. I am creating a guitar lesson based on this performance because I think it can be really useful for adding ...

Jimmy Page, B-Bender, Telecaster, The Firm. Having some more fun with the b-bender tele and The Firm. Next time I'll play through a real amp and do a tutorial on Jimmy's live tone with the Firm. Once I do my research and I get it dialed in that is.

Wow man. You nailed his tone. Awesome! Great playing man.
Nice tones! 👍🎸❤️☮️🙏
Phenomenal Job with this. Enjoyed it brother. "The Song Remained the Same" = The Mighty Led Zeppelin !!! oNe LovE from NYC

Nobody Fault But Mine, Over The Hills, Since I've Been Loving intro. AWESOME VIDEO DUDE! I can feel how better sound this on ur room. One of the best Jimmy Page tone videos i've ever seen. 14:48 what is that. slapback delay. it sounds amazing. Is a pedal right? u got the 73 MSG TONE dude!
@@josemourinho2810 it's the catlynbread Bell epoch for the slapback. Thanks!!
Lol any hope I had of getting this tone and ripping......went our the window when u brought out the bow 😂
Great tone!!! Great playing! Which exactly tubes did you use? Any amp mods or it is regular Superlead? Amp settings? Many thanks for the details!😊
Would a Marshall origin 20 also work on this set up. And does the Bryan Williams pick ups really make a huge difference on sound. I’m not trying to spend so much money on gear to sound like Jimmy page.
@@Ls_corvette the origin 20 does get you in the ballpark IMO. It's not quite the same but if your technique is Pagey enough it's more than good enough. Yes I find that Bryan Williams pickups do make a difference. They have a very Jimmy tone but are also more dynamic than most pickups so if you roll the volume down they get crystal clean, not just somewhat clean like others. You can also crank your amp up because they don't hit the amp as hard as others so you can get more mojo going without everything getting squishy. So it's not just the tone with Bryan's pickups. It's how they function with your gear that's just as important.
@@jaredbader1415 yeah I’m trying to sound like Jimmy using a new x mg300 and a origin 20. Really trying to aim for that 73 dazed and confused tone.
Great tone! Do you have bypassed wah-wah in your lineup?
I would be very curious to hear your plexi through some pre'Rola Celestions.
@@lynyrddeville me too. Too expensive for me but yes that would sound spot on 👍
Just Stunning. 👍
is it mainly in D Dorian?
@@ccarmean1968 yes a lot of D Dorian elements in there.
Dude that sounds REALLY fucking good. WOW.
Many also connect the bottom left socket to the top right socket.
hi bro, i have a bad vibrato technique i hope this helps me
Świetne !!!!
This is awesome Jared. Do you have some pdf tabs?
@@stevenbayron5645 sadly I never made any tabs or transcripts. I think around that time I couldn't leave the house, maybe pandemic times, and so I just sat down with it and memorized it as note for note as I could get. I should have created a tab though while I was in the thick of it.
Hey curious of your amp settings
@@braydenkissell9247 I can't remember the amp settings. I think everything was set to noon or close to that but it was a Kemper profile of a Marshall 1959 HW 100 watt.
From an article in Guitar Player July 1977, Jimmy says he was using Marshall 100's modified for 200 watts with the volume up to about "3". This "3" setting actually gives you a lot of the bright cap effect and I think it sounds right.
@@male3083 probably so. 3 sounds terrible on mine though.
This EP3 replica has Op Amp instead of FET as its input stage. I couldn't believe that they saved money on such important component. Catalinbread reputation is 👎 in my eyes.
@@andreybrodianski5596 yep. I'm using a Clinch Eppre now that has FET.
I tired to add 2meg pot instead of vol 2 which I connected in series to "volume 1" bright capacitor. It allows to adjust cap bypass at low settings of "volume 1". Very useful for those, who don't use channel 2.
Both are great sound! Which string size and brand do you use?
@@andreybrodianski5596 thanks! I use the D'Addario NYXL 9-46. I used to use 8-38 but found I had less tuning issues with thicker strings.
Is this a new band of yours Jared?.. Great song...Got the Lindsay Buckingham tone..
@@bryanwilliams3665 thanks Bryan! I just started playing for them but I'm not their regular guitarist. I get shows when he can't make it.
uh......?????
You got it
Nice work! I also covered the solo on my channel, but I personally think your tone is a bit on the nasal side. Could be the audio quality though
Lol! Thanks! I think?? 😂😂😂
awesome tone !
👌 👍. STAY COOL!
EP booster is probably my favourite drive pedal, especially in front of any kind of Marshall. I use mine with the classic gain channel with the gain and volume cranked on a Marshall DSL20 combo and it works wonders whatever guitar/pickups i'm using
Where is your delay pedal? In front? Great playing
Yes I put it in front. Thanks!
Slightly too overdriven….so missing some upper mid clarity or “presence” in the 1k to 3k range…but still sounds good and close
I really like when you get to 16:00. Great sound!
What pickups do you have in your lespaul? What model lespaul?
Back then I had stock burst buckers in a 2015 Gibson Les Paul standard. Now I have Mr Jimmy signature pickups from Grinning dogs pickups in the same 2015 Gibson LP standard.
@jaredbader1415 Thanks, great sounding
Nice playing, you’re a gifted guitarist.
Thank you. I don't often feel very gifted but then realize I just like to play what brings me joy and everything is good. I appreciate the compliment, thank you.
What brand pots/values are you running in this guitar? That's a beautiful guitar BTW. I see it's even got the claw marks from JB's original.
Thank you! I really love this guitar, Epiphone and Joe did such a great job with it and the long neck tenon makes it very desirable I think. I did change out the pots and caps to a pre wired kit from RS guitar works. Here are the specs on the kit from their website: What's in the kit: (2) 500K RS Short-Shaft SuperPots®- We designed these pots in conjunction with CTS. Used for the volume controls in the kit, these pots have a custom taper that gives you a noticeable difference between each number on your volume control. You can finally roll your volume down to 2 or 1 and not loose any clarity, even in the neck position!! Mil-spec construction and a smoother resistor path make this the best pot to ever be used in the guitar. (2) 500K CTS Short-Shaft Audio taper pots. (2) Vintage RS GuitarCap Paper In Oil Capacitor. Manufactured to RS specs, these hand-made 100v caps have a rich vintage tone, while still retaining open top-end clarity. Hand-wound on 50's-era machines, the new RS Vintage GuitarCaps use vintage-correct Kraft paper, solid military-spec construction and tinned 20AWG leads for easy soldering. They really hold their own against the vintage caps; their tone is similar to the famous caps from the 50's.
Thanks for the info! Yes RS looks good. I’m jealous of that guitar. I looked at one online and it doesn’t have the same flames top as yours. I didn’t know they were long tenon. That’s a keeper for sure.
Nice!
I agree the "weaker" pickups sound better. I have an SG from 1984 and I think the magnets are just getting weak because of age and I find it much easier to get a good tone with it rather than on a newer Les Paul with that has much "hotter" pick ups
Great idea -I'm gonna try it!
If you're used to hybrid picking where you're mostly finger picking with your middle and ring finger as well as the pick it is very comfortable. This device allows you to retain that technique but you get to use the flesh of your thumb instead of a pick. Then, of course you have access to a pick whenever you want as it is resting on your finger ready to go at any time. If you are used to finger picking with your index finger you might not like it because when you are in "finger style mode" you can't really use your index finger unless the pick rides higher up on your finger. I don't use my index finger for fingerpicking anyway and mostly use thumb, middle, ring. So for me it's a perfect solution for switching between finger style and pick on the fly while being able to use flesh for fingerpicking.
I took a banjo style index finger pick and super glued my regular pick on it in the perfect angle for how I normally hold my pick.

Very Good Jared..Good lesson . Very distinctive is that Duane Allman style.
Thank you Bryan. I kind of like the cheap little origin 20. A lot of people don't like it but I think it works in a pinch. I'm still learning a lot about slide playing but finally feel like I'm making some progress.
great tone what are the amp settings and pedals used mate?
I believe I used a Marshall DSL 2000 on the vintage clean channel, pushed it with the RAH pedal by catilinbread, slap back echoplex delay by the bellepoch pedal by catilinbread. Les Paul had stock burst buckets at that time. 2015 Les Paul standard.
Well done 👏
A lot of the tone is created in the studio post show, ie no quarter live so it's impossible to fully recreate imo
Yes that is absolutely right 👍
Great playing. I would love to see you do a version of this song in the style of Dickey or Duane, but with just a bit of this method sprinkled in sparingly. You have inspired me to learn this technique for this type of music. I think it would fit i great and add a different flavor. Not back to back sweeps, but maybe throw in half a sweep here and there as the solo intensifies. Thank you.
Yes I think "sparingly" is the key. Using it as a buildup and a way to travel up the neck to a bent note at a climax is probably the best use for it here. The Allman Brothers had so many different guitar players with different technique that I think it's not such a stretch to imagine. If you played this over Zeppelin it wouldn't work at all or sound appropriate but for ABB its pretty cool I think.
@@jaredbader1415 Sounds great. Now I have something else to practice LOL. Thanks for opening my eyes to the fact that its not just for metal.
Great . Are you using a EP boost ? Where comes a echo effect
Slap back delay is coming from a bellepoch deluxe pedal which does have the built in "EP preamp"
That's really cool
