    this is classic example of my thought on web 2.0 vs web 3.0. love the way this guy gives a overview of this equipment & OS like high end IT guy. He doesnt give a rats azz about the bitcoin apps and is mainly focused on how this device and OS offer a web server function. this vid has a nice review of the equipment and opinion on price point. I think Start9 mission is to deliver a OS on a webserver to manage cryptocurrency and blockchain and to operate web 3.0 Dapps without a blockchain college degree. 2 fails for Start9 thus far, they have 2 massive hurdles. How do they get the server hardware competitive with other server boards price point & specs? or advertise merkian made & warranty? How does Start9 server company convince guy like Homelab Chronicles that he needs to run a bitcoin & lightening node? AND The guys that finds the Start9 device/server useful for WEB 3.0, $1000 paper wgt that runs his apps or the WEB 3.0 guy might find the Start9 OS handy but a IT programmer guy will find a hotdog server board (lattepanda or something with high specs and win11 & linux installed) and install start9 OS, installs free IPFS server, and installs dapps and this guy will have a super pocket home sever that manages web 2.0 & web 3.0 web services. until Start9 company has a high end board, windows, IPFS and Start9 OS preinstalled the sale base is crypto enthusiasts, and a smaller group of blockchain programmers that might bust loose and buy this device to tinker with,. Start9 best features is 'made in America' and Ive heard they have very good tech support and Im not sure on phone number. Ive bought chinese boards with poor tech support and NO PHONE and if they blew up on me with not even a discount if I bought another board from them so merikan made , a phone, and top level tech support and I will try products often and PAY A LITLLE MORE TO. a greater question is do anyone who read this far, do you think web 3.0 will go mainstream and will web 3.0 replace web 2.0 apps and severs? To me thus far web 2.0 still rules and what bothers me so far is ask again, is web 3.0 REPLACING servers, banking, currency, credit cards, apps, games, money transactions?

    “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” ― Muhammad Ali 💯 Just installed #Cosmos and if you ask me this is better that #CasaOS, I run CasaOS on a headless server and I bought the #Zimaboard and as my experience is with the marketplace apps many don't work out off the box. It is possible that docker is the match breaker in securities here as #Portainer under #CasaOS don't work here either, well Portainer is working but the apps installations are not. Possible docker ? Thanks for showing this great looking Cosmos to work it out the coming days thanks.:))) Have a great new year 2024 :) Greetings from Amsterdam. Charlesm

    Are there benefits of this over using unraid? Seems like it does a lot of what unraid is doing for me already. Does it simplify docker configurations or anything? Because I've had some minor hiccups with configuring some of my containers, but even still everything is pretty straightforward using unraid.

    • @homelabchronicles739
      @homelabchronicles739 11 месяцев назад

      I think at the moment, tipi is not as stable as unraid, unraid has a dedicated team behind it while tipi not so much. If you want to use prebuilt template applications, tipis is great and I didnt have any issues, but honestly i never tried the manual docker configuration. they do provide documentation to setup docker containers manually but at the moment, this feature is not so great especially when you compare it with unraid, other than it, its pretty decent if you are just starting with home servers

  • @IslamicAudiobooksCentral

    This looks great - thanks. So if I understood correctly, if you use their built-in solution, your ip address won't be exposed? No need to use Cloudflare tunnel?

    • @homelabchronicles739
      @homelabchronicles739 11 месяцев назад

      if you use their expose app feature, your data will be encrypted over the air. your private ip will not be expose, exposing public ip over safe protocols like https is no problem since normally when you visit any site over https, they have access to it and your public ip is not confidential. just make sure you dont expose your private ip, like 192.168.1.X unsecurely over the internet

    Especially the point about virtualisation is very good. One powerful machine is often much more efficient than running several smaller ones. This is because most of the time the machines will run near idle in a homelab, but every machine has a base consumption that it won't go below, even if idle. Having 10 machines means 10x the idle consumption. Consolidating this on one more powerful system is a lot more efficient. Of course it is cool to have dedicated machines for everything, but it isn't practical :)

    • @homelabchronicles739
      @homelabchronicles739 11 месяцев назад

      I agree completely, if one machine could do a perfect job, why run multiple machines which would be running at maybe 5 % of their capacity. idle power adds up to a lot when you consider year round consumption. PS: dont forget to give a sub :)
