Gold prospecting 2013
Just a gang of guys wanting to shake off a little bit of cabin fever on the Christmas holidays and what better way than to go looking for some gold in the mountain canyon nearby. We pretty much had to hike in to this one through just a foot or two of snow with a beautiful blue sky day and some gold to show for our efforts at the end of the day.

Oh nuts, I panned the first part of the movie in 16:9 ratio and the second part in 4:3 ratio. So not a perfect meshing by any means but as you can see the water level between high (end of May) to the low (Feb) are quite drastic.
Snow Boarding for Gold

Pretty much what the title says, unless you are thinking of the Olympics, then it's not quite it. We went looking for gold in a creek high up in the back hills in the dead of winter and our buddy Chris decided to bring his snowboard along for an easy return trip back down the mountain trails. Man that was a sick day, a little gold and some fresh air and a whole lot of fun. Thanks guys!
Fraser river prospecting

I decided to work some bedrock up on the Fraser river today. There are always small little creeks flowing at this time of year that make for easy sluicing but they are barely flowing so a tarp just helps to get the most out of the water that is available.
Compass metal detector

This is an air test that I did on my 30 year old Compass metal detector. The sound was not actually captured as well as I wanted, but I was able to hear the detection signal far better than my camera was able to so hence the location where I placed the coins were based on that. I was surprised to see that this old detector which I've really only had for a month was able to detect a copper penny...
Motorized canoeing

This is a canoe motor mount project that I did just because I had the motor. It's more of a backup motor just in case I get caught down stream of in a situation where I could use a bit more power. The 1 hp motor weighs 13.5 pounds without fuel so it doesn't really get in the way as far as weight goes. I know that I should tie it down in case of a flip over.
Water window

This was an evening project that uses a piece of glass and a length of wood. It's great for seeing clearly through the water as if you were looking into a fish tank. It's handy for bedrock sniping just under the water's surface or for checking to see if there are any fish in the creek before casting a line or maybe for inspecting for cracks in the bedrock. I've seen similar units that use a tub...

This is a simple way to prospect for gold in a creek. The two main things that you will need are a 4 inch solid Big-O pipe and a creek that has some drop, about a foot for every eight to fifteen feet of run would be best. The length of pipe is not important, but should be between 15 feet and 100 feet and it should not have any holes in it because air stops it from working. This method of prospe...
Foolsgold Trek

This hike was done in early July of 2010. Though it's very easy to cover 5km/hour on any semi open trail, an over grown trail can slow a guy down to less than 1km/hour. I really only got a couple of hours into the Foolsgold trail before I realized that I should plan this trek out abit more before trying it again. The old delapetated bridge in the video is the one that is early on the Foolsgold ...
Goldpanning Stave lake

This is a day trip that I took up to Mission B.C. which is about an hour from the hustle and bustle of the largest city in the area . . . Vancouver, Canada. The creek is on Government crown land and is open to gold panning simply because there are no Placer gold claims permitted on this creek, I suspect that's because it's not a great creek for gold prospects anyhow. Gold panning is just a hobb...
Mine hunting
Просмотров 9 тыс.14 лет назад
This video is just a walk up a creek as I follow a trail of blasted rock from an old mine from the 1920s. I am mainly following the trail of shattered quartz rock in a creek since most of the old prospectors used to mine quartz veins in search for gold in this area. The area has a lot of growth due to the large amounts of rain so needless to say that the mine is probably under a slumpped bank o...
Building a sluice box
Просмотров 281 тыс.14 лет назад
This sluice box cost about a buck in screws and about 2 hours of my time to build. It uses what I think is a hungarian style of riffle (but I could be wrong). The whole sluice box is made from a cedar log that I found laying on the forest floor, I figure that the tree has been laying there for more than 70 years. Anyhow this sluice box design works surprisingly well once it has layed in the riv...
Gravity Dredging 2
Просмотров 39 тыс.16 лет назад
This is the nozzle of my 4" Gravity dredge that I built for about $20. The whole trick is to fill the pipe completely with water and then lay it at just the right angle to allow the lighter gravels to pass through it and the black sands and gold to stay in the riffles. Make sure you don't let any air in or the whole thing stops or slows down to the point of inefficiency. To clean it just shake ...
Hey man are you still around? I hope you get to see this, still waiting on your fools gold video lol
Is this where Volcanic Brown went missing? He said he found a mine full of gold but he went missing?
Ha dude where's the washers under the nuts
This is seriously one of my absolute favorite videos on the internet 👊
Homemade dredging, well Done. That technique in an area where gold is I’m sure will work just fine
Ron, you're the best man!
👍🥇👍🥇👍🥇👆☘️🙏👆👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was thinking the same thing and now that I know for a fact. Hands down brilliant. Thank you for testing that for me.
T your motor is cavitating, that's why it's so loud.
Far out! Go there, build a sluice and get gold. That's a special place you got there. Sure would like to know where your at ? Looks like fun, paul
I'm scared to say something to that .... there is so many good critics below ,.. But you have to consider that this situation was real sometimes in the past and require from a prospector all this kind of skills ,- when you where on the gold rush path Even he could make his own gold pan out of wood Not even nails ... just wood'n pins ,- moss ,- spruce gum .... and all the materials you can get or make with your primitiv ,- but smart handcraft You have to know something about trees and there different wood ... They workable or not .... and if ... in which way ...... and and respect !
Are you still around/alive? Last video was 9 years ago? I enjoyed your line up. Why stop??
Good work! Just like the miners of old!
I just love this video.
Wow, a RUclips video that is nearly 15 years old! Considering that the oldest RUclips video is just 2 years older is pretty amazing.
It was kinda funny about the GPS co-ordinates, but anyways the easiest way down to this spot is actually by parking at that bridge and heading down the river on the North side. There is a bit of a trail once you get away from the road. You do have to dig down a few feet to some layer other than washed gravels most times, not always. And really, don't take a claim on this spot just because you think that I was dumb enough to tell you where it is. It's really not worth paying the money for and it is much kinder to just let other recreational panners try their hand at a local creek like this. Anyways, that being said, before you go, check to make sure some bastard hasn't claimed the spot first because in their mind they think that you would be claim jumping by panning his mineral claim. There are no placer claims allowed on this creek, or any creek below Hope for that matter.
Hello, how many meters is your hose ?
100 feet or 30 Meters. 100mm diameter. It must be Solid, no holes for irrigation. And really, don't try to tape 2 together for extra length, it never works. If you suck up too much material too fast it will plug up, well thats if your flow is too slow, so as to not clear the material going in fast enough. It really was an art.
Спасибо большое, я с Казахстана. Здоровья вам.
Gostei muito dó seu canal é sou garimpeiro 👍
No sound?
Yea, the volume was a bit low when I recorded that video. I was mainly doing air tests on different kinds of known targets. These Compass 7 detectors were pretty good at medium sized gold. Maybe 7a.
@@rwatson2609 What it do on a silver dime?
@hotwheel6663 I haven't used that detector for a bit but I believe a dime was a bit harder to find than the regular dimes due to the silver composition.
Your location is not secret any more you put the way point on video, lol
Ploop hahaha
I saw a 🐟 get suck up not legal in wa. add a grate mite help getting it approved .fish eggs etc. Looks great 👌
Holy smokes that old 1 HP is as fast as my 4hp Yamaha on a lite 14' boat. Impressed
That was fully wound out. The tank would hold about 7km of fuel fo that Canoe. Maybe .7 liters.
Absolutely pathetic.
Te dejaste una pepita de oro
What model compass is it ? Thank you.
How incredible what you have. Greetings
Good job.!!
Good job.!!
So.... You didn't get gold..
Have you since had success with this? I'm considering trying this
almost 11 years ago i know the exact creek and the exact location i have prospected in the area but i did not find anything then again i didnt know then what i know now i will be going soon to have another look see
You wanna use a smooth flexible 4 inch hose and run a sluice box at the end,I was running a setup like it up on a River in ca, and we were sucking up all kinds for nuggets,,,can’t wait to go try it again,,,looking for the right prices on the stuff as I typ,,,lol Killer video
Hi guys, need help. I have a old Challenger X-200 and need the manual. Can not find nothing in internet. Any ideas??
I have the Challenger X-200 and was able to find the owners manual online. It was free to print out too.
I had originally posted this video 10 years ago and just recently thought of it when I saw a car commercial that used this valley in the background of a small clip. Anyways, a few more thoughts that I had if you do plan on attempting this historic hike, Gators are a must simply because of the undergrowth but you should also of course bring a GPS with pre-loaded way points of this route since the trail even 10 years ago was hopelessly lost shortly after I left the Widgon lake path. I thought about re slashing the trail but really that is not a job for 1 guy, instead step to the left or right of the trail 50 feet under the tree canopy in order to escape the overgrown main trail which does receive enough sunlight to produce tons of brush. 50 feet either side will only have fallen trees to deal with and this way you can save your energy for the hike, Maybe bring a saw of some sorts since you may need to drop a tree across a river in order to traverse it since even that last bridge in my video is now 10 years older and possibly missing. Bring bear spray, a small fishing rod and a mapping GPS with a topography map built in. Test your GPS in some typical tree understory before you go to make sure you are able to pull in enough satellites to get a bearing in these kinds of conditions. I used the "Backroads Mapbook" for Southern BC 2003 (page12) for a bulk of the route since it has the full route dotted on a topo map there then I probably Google Earthed the co-ordinates of my pathway. Dunno for sure. People do get lost in these parts and "Search and Rescue" can't always find them due to the tree cover and vastness of the search area so plan your trip carefully.
That motor is cute as hell.
Your the man god bless you
So I know you forgot to video but how did you fill pipe with water? Getting the suction started was my challenge.
I watched that whole video to see how much gold you got. Bummer video.
Yea, I actually didn't get much.
How about a 650 motorcycle engine and transmission to an 8 inch propeller ? Just get crazy.
Et ce que Ilya grande disque de compassion x100
Your are a Craftsman of great quality 💪💪💪💪💪💪well done incredible
Great show, really impressed. I'm a "do it yourself " person too, and all of my gear is hand made. But dam! To do it all there in the wilderness is really awesome!! Bravo!!
Cool if I wanted to watch you walk through the woods I would of typed in watch fucker walk through woods
Any chance you'd be willing to post more videos ? I'm still amazed at all you had to know in order to post this particular video...to know where the gold could be found, the shape of the riffles and slope of the sluice box, making a shave horse, using a froe to make the boards, using a draw knife to smooth their surfaces, knowing how to pan once you have the material...just amazed at how you put all these things together and walk away with gold ! When I posted my previous comment 4 years ago, I didn't even know what a shave horse, draw knife, or a froe was...but have since added a couple of these edged tools to my collection. I can only imagine what it might have been like to have been raised in a family that was competent in the outdoors like you. I doubt I'd have become a window cleaner. Cheers, Brad
So did you ever get back to try this again with a sluice box?
Nice easy going video thanks mate good one.
**mic drop** as you walk away. That is an awesome build!!
Very Good :)
5:33 looks like you uncovered a bunch of gold to the rt
