YASHICA Auto YASHINON 5cm F2 Disassembly and Cleaning Video
YASHICA Auto YASHINON 5cm F2 Disassembly and Cleaning Video.
Tomioka Optics delivered lenses to major manufacturers such as Yashica and Ricoh by OEM supply.
Probably for decades, I got the Yashica Auto Yashinon 5cmF2 (the lens is Tomioka Kogaku), which used to sleep in a corner of a room without being used.
This is a video of disassembling and cleaning that lens.
(There are also sample shots taken around my home)
Tomioka Optics lenses are very popular because of their wonderful depiction power, even after decades.

Could anyone help me, please? Found one of the Pen EF, and I'm planning to get it to use. However, the flash system is not working at all. The previous owner reported an AA battery leaked inside of it, and it surely has some crusts of blue "rust" inside (copper rust, apparently). I tried to scrap it off as much as possible, and making an electric contact of tin foil, to make the battery have connection with the 2 contacts in the camera body, but it didn't work much. It seems to be conducting energy, once it makes that buzzing sound like if the flash is loading, but it does not fire at all, not even in a dark room. Would it be possible to fix it and use it?

Do you have to be careful of radiation when opening these lenses? Or is it not a problem because repairing is a rare occasion?

Many thanks for this lovely video abouth the cleaning and what you need to do. For me it's clear that I do not want to dismantle the camera that far just to have a clear viewfinder. I had already cleaned some parts and bought a bnwfilm this afternoon so i will load the film in the camera and start shooting tomorrow.

Hi Tomoo Thank you for sharing this video but there is a part of it where you are showing how to remove the front element that is not the correct way to remove it. The part where you are forcing the front element out by twisting it and pulling it out is not correct. Please see below message from NigelR99 and my answer to his message. I think it would be good to update the video to show the correct way to remove the from elements. I made quite a mess of the threads on my lens following your instruction to force the font section out by twisting and pulling it out. From NigelR99 Remove the rubber grip and there are three hidden screws, undo them and the lens hood and name ring assembly remove. No need to force things..... the front lens element set wasn't designed to be forced out! My reply to NigelR99 Ricky 1954 Thanks for pointing that out Nigel. I was really struggling with that part. The forcing in and out of that section also damages the thread on both the internal and external lens holder section. Never seemed right to me that Pentax would design a lens that you had to force the elements out against the threads. As soon as I removed the lens rubber and the 3 tiny screws you mentioned it came apart easily and was very easy to remove the lens section.

Hi there. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are wonderful. I have the same lens to clean but even with proper rubber lens tools I can seem to be able to get the front retaining ring to unscrew. Can you let me know how you removed the front lens retaining ring ?.

do you clean the inside body too since mold can be everywhere but seen only on the glass. Normally zooms are too complex to clean but this one is not bad.

How long do you let elements sit in HP? Too much will eat up the coatings so its important to know. Thank you

Hi, My name is Trung Do and I am from the United States. Do you apply any type of grease to the threads on this lens? If so what kind of grease? If you can show a picture so that I can order from the USA that would be most helpful. In Japan I am sure you have access to much more cleaning and repair supplies than in The USA because most people here prefer to buy new then repair anything.
