Just wanted to say thanks for this series. Found your last post off Reddit and have been watching since. Hope to see you tackle something similar with the RCT2 scenarios.
Thanks very much-- happy you found the channel! The intention is to do the RCT2 scenarios also as I've never really played through them beyond the first couple. They were all pretty terrible so I jumped to sandbox building pretty early on in my gaming life. But I think it could be fun to go back and see if we could do them better. Right now the thought is to do RCT1, both expansions, the extras, then jump to RCT2. This should keep me busy for a few years!
19:00 or so: one thing that all wild-mouse types in OpenRCT2 could benefit from is a much gentler slope track piece. Would be a bit time consuming to implement (not just graphically) but I've always disliked how unrealistic those typical snakey turns at the top of them are in RCT1 and 2.
This is an interesting thought and one that I haven't necessarily considered before since I've always been a proponent of wanting the steep pieces on this ride type, diving corners, S-bends, etc. I think they challenge you'd run into is trying to get the shall piece to still level out at the appropriate height. Which I think would extend the length of the segment further than the slalom sections would be. If we ever get into half-height pieces it's more viable, but that seems potentially messy. Roomie on the New Element discord is working on low slope monorails right now which look very cool but are still a ways off. So potentially it's a future thing, which would be neat! Personally one of the very specific pieces that I'd love to see for the mouse is a 3 across hairpin corner. Because of the geometry it'd have to be a full 180* since a 90* wouldn't line up, but I'd love that option between the 1x1 and 2x2 corner to space out the slaloms a little bit more and allow for better custom supporting. Not sure that's high on any of the current trackmaker's plans right now, but maybe one day!
love this series
Thanks very much!
For whatever reason I always loved this scenario growing up....except for the exploding coasters. Excited to see what this turns into.
Thanks! This was definitely a fun one originally since you had a bunch of space to work with for building.
This scenario is called Katie's Dreamland in the European release!
I always liked that name better!
Love hearing the thought process behind everything, really insightful and makes me think "oh yeah, I should be doing this too" in most instances. Love the overlapping chairlift stations
Thanks very much! I'm trying to balance going into the thought process without going too far down that rabbit hole. But it's definitely fun to do.
You could easily thread that loop if you just buy land for one of these video's :P
If the land adjacent to this loop was available I'd have definitely bought it and thrown something like Knotts' Jaguar in there. Something for a future scenario perhaps!
@@AmusementAcademy would still love for this series to continue after you finished all scenarios by just going back and now going all out, ignoring the goals. Kinda like Deurklinks series, but with an emphasis on making it realistic
I live in America, so when you post, it could be 3 am or 6 pm for me.
Yes, I post it at 10:00am my time, which is GMT+3. So it'll usually come early in the US.
For some reason I've never made much use of the area behind the go karts here outside of maybe a flat ride or two. I like the way you fit the log flume into that spot.
It's not a great spot for attractions since it's got a weird slope and isn't super well placed against the path loop, but I think the log flume works decently here because it can handle both of those items pretty well. Thanks!
nice
This is just gorgeous. Jazzcats really knocked this season out of the park.
They really did. It's a fitting way to end the season and what an incredible job by their whole team through all the rounds.
Incredible job to Babar Tapie and the crew! New personal favourite ✨10/10
Again, my jaw dropped hahaha. The rock work is incredibly well done!! Probably my favourite rock work in the contest. Love the overall theme with the black tar and colour palettes. Coaster layouts are great. Just wow. 🤩🎉
9:23 - and the Ocean Explorer ride actually is underwater xD
5:30 - I believe that's meant to be a pseudo recreation of ULA's Vulcan rocket.
thats amazing!!
Can I send my park for you to review? 😅
Sure! You can send it to theamusementacademy@gmail.com.
Thank you, Brian. I'm new to this scene: What's your all-time favorite RCT2 park?
That's tough! I love a lot of parks for a lot of reasons. One of my favorite classic parks has got to be Rivers of Babylon (www.nedesigns.com/park/124/rivers-of-babylon/). 21 years ago and it still looks solid. I love most everything that Alex puts out, like Age of Sail (www.nedesigns.com/park/5869/age-of-sail/), and some other recent spotlights like the highly themed Belle Isle (www.nedesigns.com/park/5907/belle-isle/) or the dirty American realism Mahoning Gardens (www.nedesigns.com/park/5566/mahoning-gardens/). There's lots of great parks out there for sure-- definitely makes it hard to pick.
Thanks for the video Brian! The park was built exceptionally fast in the end, which is why it is so rough around the edges. I'm happy with how it came out though, despite the roughness I think I got the idea across, and provided MorganFan's fantastic coaster with a nice supporting environment.
It would have been neat to see this park fully fleshed out. Really impressed with what all you put together in a short amount of time.
Oh what a nice quaint little park! 3:50 : "ohh... oh no"
😆
It's shaped like a dino footprint! Nice coasters too!
Dude makes a build 10x better than anything I could make and is like "Eh, it's not great but it's probably alright..." Keep going, great videos!
I like to be a bit of a critic sometimes since it keeps me pushing to try and improve! I am pretty happy with how this launched coaster layout turned out, though. I wasn't sure what kind of 'big' coaster I could do with this map, and I think it's pretty suitable! As always, though, practice makes better. I've got 25 years in this game and there's still plenty to learn and discover. But as long as you're having a good time doing it, it's all good. Thanks for watching!
Love that you put the two tower rides next to the lisebergbanan inspired coaster, just how it was when I was a kid! (The tower rides have been dismantled/replaced by newer rides in other locations i believe)
Liseberg is such a nice park! I always like the double towers in RCT-- I feel like it looks better than the single.
Love the name of the looping coaster. Nice reference to Hersheypark!
It was my first looping coaster, so I have good memories of it!
Amazing video! Very informative too. I always wanted to be a roller coaster engineer lol.
Me too haha. But mechanical engineering wasn't for me, so I got an architecture degree and went that direction!
Did we skip 4th place?
This earned 4th place
@@whatthehexadecimal8830 oh, right 3rd place match but the park earned 4th duh
Set in an era when palm trees grow in Switzerland?
Set in a time when global warming has melted the ice away, hence all the solar power
Pathway cleanliness is really easy to get away from you when you off in another area building. First your realize that you have been working on this one new ride all night and the birds are starting to wake up outside. Then you look at the in-game date and see that weeks or months have gone by and your flowers are wilted, an important ride is now overpriced for its age and you forgot to disable lawn mowing on your grounds keepers and they are miles away mowing grass instead of cleaning paths. #RCTtruths
Spot on! It's funny how easily the rest of the park gets away from you while you're focused on something else.
I'm a huge fan of the adjustments you made fitting the launched looping coaster into the park. It's hard to get the dirt to look the way you want it to sometimes when you're trying to fit a coaster into a hillside and I think you cleaned it up nicely.
Thank you! A lot of times the issue with landscape in the scenarios is that it's super regular. Like they've definitely just gone with the landscape tool for pretty general shaping, which is fine but doesn't lend itself to looking great with a ride on top of it. So trying to get some simple adjustments to give it some variety and changing the ground texture can make a big difference.
@@AmusementAcademy thanks for the tip!
My God this is Art.
It really is a different level of RCT. Check out The Screameasy and Meccha videos-- those were probably the best two from the contest and were pretty incredible.
Good stuff man! A thought occurred to me and I'm not sure how much of an editing lift this would be, but on the final overview it could be neat to do a pre/post development slow cross fade at the same zoom level and angle. Could be neat to see how things changed and stayed the same to fit the environment!
That's a good thought. I don't think it would be too challenging, though not sure on how long it would take. But I like the idea any. Andrew at Mickanman's RCT Station did that a few times on videos and it looked really nice. I will see if I can incorporate that into some elements. Maybe it's a separate video for some of these earlier ones. I'll play with it. Thanks very much for the suggestion!
How do you get all those wall options in the terrain mode? I only have four, the others are not available
You need OpenRCT2 with at least RCT/RCT2 installed. OpenRCT2 is a free open source version that includes a lot of new basic features in the game.
Yep, this is the way. I have the original RCT installed with OpenRCT2, so I'm running this in Open using the .sv4 filetype which brings all the original RCT1 (with expansions) land and wall textures into it.
Will you ever continue to do the amusement park Academy videos I love those & these scenario time lapses
Yes-- the scenario videos have become kind of the primary thing at the moment, but I do want to do more Academy videos like coaster building or continuing our parks with custom scenery.
@@AmusementAcademy amazing I really enjoy the coaster building & scenarios it’s been helping me a lot with RCT classic lol
Fascinating to see all the terrain work and the micro adjustments to make rides fit just so. The finished park however looks stunning, well worth all the effort and just feels like a great location to visit. I especially ended up loving the little food stall, boardwalk combos that were done. Making them a small focal point adds so much more character than just plopping them down.
Thanks very much! I agree on the food stands and it's something I want to get better at doing in scenario play since I think it really makes a nice aesthetic difference.
yee
Always a pleasure to see what you come up with! Just wondering, why does nobody touch the car ride? I'm guessing you've fixed it by now but I'm wondering if the price was too high or something?
I'm guessing it was just a matter of not adjusting the prices down for the aging of the ride. I don't often go back and micromanage the smaller rides as the scenario goes along if I'm making enough money-- I probably need to pay more attention to it, however.
It's so well done, the creators made it look like an entirely different game
babar tapie is the goat
Such a great map with many clever ideas and great aesthetics. Also very impressive making those half-diagonal buildings look so natural
Yes! There's so much life in this map. It looks great.
I always like seeing Trinity Islands builds. It has a unique shape that leaves a lot to the imagination in spite of having less flat land than the parks before it.
I appreciate a good landscape that lets you set up a park to complement the overall look and feel. Terrain leads to creativity like you say, and I think it can make these builds more fun.
@@AmusementAcademy 100% agreed!
I thought the flume would have some interaction with the lake. Maybe an along-side route along the beach or a splash pond that was at lake level but a camouflaged/themed divider to keep the waters separated. This route feels like two high school sweethearts that dont dare to canoodle, sitting on opposite sides of the couch because someone's dad is watching. No touching! Lol.
That's a good point and I love how you said it! It is a pretty straightforward out and back type layout. I didn't want to go too high off the ground or too long of a tunnel, so the slope did prevent some interaction that I'd have otherwise liked. But I'm sure we could probably do a bit more. Crossovers do make it more interesting. It's a good point too about using the water-- I wanted to activate that little sandbar area since I wasn't going to build much on it directly. But another option could be to come out perpendicular to the landscape and into the water than wind back to land. Lots of options. Good thoughts!
Trinity Island was always the first scenario to give me pause just due to the land shape. I am definitely guilty of doing water building so it's interesting to see it when you're more contained to the land.
While I don't inherently mind going into the water for some stuff, I've been guilty of making a spaghetti of rides that ends up kind of blurring the islands into one big mass-- and I wanted to try and keep the overall landscape character here. It's also a bit of an added challenge!
part 2 now please :D
Patience, good things come in time.
@@ThyPandora are we there yet?
Later this week!
Always a good day when there's another scenario play uploaded
Trying to keep them coming somewhat regularly! Thanks for watching!
CP6 these reviews are awesome man, thanks for doing them :)
Thanks for watching them! It's been great to go back through some of these absolutely incredible maps.
This and screameasy are the archetypes of the full potential of H2H as a project
They were both such top tier parks. Screameasy is still the ultimate for me just with the more 'realistic' focus and the placemaking, but when I look at Meccha, I can get lost in it. So many details, so many great signs, and clickable stuff, and stories, and all of that. If my projects could achieve the same amount of 'life' that these maps have, than I could be very happy about it.
Amazing
my brother in christ, what do you mean you don't know donkey kong country??
I always had PlayStations growing up so my experience with the Nintendo franchises was pretty limited. One of these days I ought to go back and play it.
The description aged very poorly
Sure did. I made a comment while we were queuing for this that I wouldn't be surprised to see an accident on it someday. Wrong ride, right park unfortunately.
That backside of the mountain looks alright but comes across as rushed compared to all the detail in the front.
I think there could have been some more scenes back there for sure, but I didn't necessarily see it as too rushed. But that's probably because I mostly spent time watching the coaster...
