Studiologic Numa x piano GT vs Yamaha CP88 extended review!!!
This is an extended review about these 2 beautiful keyboards. I can see Studiologic is working hard to bring new improved sounds. It is not far behind from Yamaha, for some the studiologic might sound better !!!

Roland FP30X vs Studiologic numa x piano GT review
what NUMA piano are you using?
@@DavideRuggerini Numa x piano GT
@ispianist i mean the piano preset
The keyboard that allows you to play pianoforte 'dolce' wins!
Call me crazy but Yamaha's piano - I like better.
Have you tried the SL88 Grand? What do you think of it?
You deserve way more subs.
Sounds amazing..like the fresh and unique sound of the Studio logic Numa x
I only got thru 10 mins of this content. Can I offer some constructive criticism as to why? I found what you were saying to be interesting, but you repeated every point you made about 5 times. If something is super important, then perhaps one repetition, but endlessly repeating literally everything you say is both redundant and boring. If in doubt, less talking and more playing will probably serve you well as a guideline.
Yamaha sounds more crisp and authentic imho. Morw natural This is probably why it cost double the numa gt. But thank yoi for the very good playing that allowed a good comparision
Hello. Iam from Portugal. What is your opinion in therms of live situation, punch sound that appears with quality, there is much diference between them? I have a yamaha yc 73, and iam a little diasapointed with the dynamic range of the keybed. The studiologic has punch quality sound on live PA situation? Thanks
Hi! Thanks for your videos! One question, how is your experience with the Numa GT? Are you happy with the product given your experience as a pianist? And how does it work as a MIDI controller? In my region it costs 1300€, do you think it's the best option in this price range? Thank you very much!
@@jG-jd8wg Yes and yes !!! I am very happy with the mechanical key action. This is the best keyboard on the market for key action. (Kawai might be better) But just to remain that kawai MP11SE or VPC1 are lot heavier and also cost more. This is a very compact design. Even though still weights 50 lbs but is not as heavy as the other 2. I did try the Roland rd2000. It feels very similar on key action but the Roland still heavier action. Also the pivot are longer too. I feel like the Numa keys are very similar in length and weight as the Steinway pianos. Also the midi implementation is very good for playing live. You can assign the 4 knobs in different channels. I also love the idea that is built in audio interface. So you don't have to bring a DAW with you. Just bring a USB cable and plug it in straight to the iPad air and you are good to go. It is a very good piano. Hardware wise. I wasn't too sure about the internal sounds. But seems like Studiologic is listening to its customers. They just launched not that long ago an update for the Rhodes and sound amazing. Also few days ago they launched the sample "Stage D" and sounds amazing. This is the sample I was waiting for studiologic to release. Is not the perfect piano but is perfect for my needs. Also can't beat the price. Very affordable compared to other stage pianos.
@@ispianist You have helped me decide, thank you very much!
the numa doesn't have any reverb on it , yet the nord does , not a very clever thing to do for acoustic piano comparasion ? why , hard to tell in these conditions !!!
@@homestudiotutorials I honestly think studiologic needs to work better sampling these pianos. Lacks of realism and detail. But yeah next time I will not use any reverb at all. I did use some reverb on the Numa. I been trying to get a good sound of the Numa but is hard. The Nord sounds great out of the box.
@@ispianisti can’t hear any reverb on the numa ! Only on the nord , you are saying the opposite ! Or maybe it is too low or something, but it doesn’t seem like a fair test , I have seen some reviews where they have a great sound coming out of the numa !! Bit strange that you don’t seem to like it , anyway thanks for the videos , I will see when I get one -)
@@homestudiotutorials Sound is very subjective. I have played many grand acoustic pianos. I feel like the Numa does sound fake. It does have many mimics. I am not the only one who complains about it. The key action I have not complains. I think this is one of the best key actions in any digital pianos. Also I do really like the midi implementation and also the compact design. The material that Studiologic uses to make these keyboards are not joke. Seems very high quality but again I am not very fan of their internal sounds.
@@ispianistok thanks for your input -)
Which of the two actions seems harder to you? heavier and better for "training" to have stronger fingers. thank you!
@@jotaltas both are pretty solid. But seems like the Numa does have more authentic piano feel.
@@ispianist So Numa's action is heavier? Thanks for your reply!
Es increible lo que puede hacer studiologic
This is very subjective…I have a YC61, same pianos as other YC and I also have a Numa X. I could happily use either, but the recent software update for the Numa has me leaning to Studiologic for now. Really good ep too.
Como se llama ese sonido o como lo tienes puesto amigo ?
I watched another review on the numa and it was pointed out that the numa didn't have good dynamic range. Instead of using more samples for soft playing they just use a filter instead, so playing softly doesn't use a soft piano sample, just a filter, bit like just reducing the volume and turning the tone down. Plus there is not a smooth transition from soft to loud, it jumps at a certain point. So it would not be my choice for solo piano. The Yamaha has a better Piano tone imo, however for the price they should have included dynamic resonance instead of just damper resonance. However, as a stage keyboard in a mix its probably less important compared to solo playing. So between the two, the Yamaha has more usable piano tones, so would be my choice.
@@jonos138 Yes definitely the Yamaha has greater dinamic range and I do prefer the pianos over the Numa. Yamaha does have better sampling and feels more connected with the beybed when playing. I did ended selling the Yamaha CP88. I do prefer the mechanical action on the Numa and the midi integration . I just wished they had better piano samples.
Thanks for the comparison, I enjoyed it! I have the Numa X73 myself. It's annoying changing from one sustain or effect pedal to another, as I know myself. You might try a 'Y' jack of some kind to send the same sustain pedal messages to both instruments. it might be worth a shot.
Very interesting comparison, thank you! The audible differences in acoutic pianos are partially due to the cut "acoustic" effects of the Yamaha CP88, they optimized it for stage, not recording or pleasant sound at home. Both instruments have excellent keyboard actions, but I wish the CP88 and especially the YC88 would have got the GrandTouch-S as built in P-525 or PCL-745. It has lighter weighted hammers, allows outstanding playing acoustic piano sounds and is far more accomplished if playiing an e-piano, synth or organ sound.
Man! You have the Nord channels connected incorrectly. The left sounds through the right and the right sounds through the left
The piano sound on the numa is not my favorite. It definitely dosnt sound authentic the way Yahama does. The quality of the cp88 is definitely better sounding.
Could you compare GT with Dexibell vivo S10? With one has the better key action?
Could you compare with Dexibell vivo S10? With one has the better key action?
Have you ever tried Dexibell S10? Please if you can, tried it and tell me the difference between then anda the Numa X GT!
Please somebody tell me that has some better option of keybeds in another brand that is as good as this fp40 from numa!? I just can pay 21 thousand in a piano that I hat the sounds!
Numa suck’s! What about Yamaha YC comparison with this GT? Also wooden keys
It is literally the same CP88 and YC88 but YC does have an organ engine. Both models 88 keys use exact same keybed.
Have you ever tried Kawai VPC1 action? I am trying to decide between the Numa and VPC1. Interested only in the piano action. For referente I had a Roland PHA50 action was good but not close to a real piano. Tried VPC1 and liked It a lot but I cant try the Numa. I wonder which IS better. Also for some reason I like more VPC1 action compared to MP11SE one.
Great job! Which one feels the best to you? Lovely playing, I'm green with envy! I think I prefer the Studio Logic sound. It sounds fuller and warmer to me. But that doesn't matter since I use Pianoteq.
How’s the key noise between the two; with the volume off? Hard to decide which to get for studio… both are tasty :)
The CP88 is way louder.
@@ispianistthx brother!
The numa sounds nice but it’s not a sampled instrument the way the yahama is and if you turn it up you can hear it. The numa just sounds like a colored waveform, the yahama sounds definately more realistic to me
This is quite literally the exact video I needed! Thanks 🙏
Could you please chare this Studiologic preset that you have made?
Are these the default sounds mate?? Hi mate, I'm debating myself to buy a Numa X 88. I have got a YC 88 I am not so happy with the result. I come from a Yamaha CVP 505. My main interest is the piano accoustic sound. With one great sound thats good enough to me. If other extra sounds were to be good, that's an extra.
Yeah I was on the same boat with my Yamaha CP88. I went through configurations and used 2 of my favorite pianos. I did split 2 patches in one. I am using the patch S700 starting on the lowest key (A0 to B3) then the patch C7 starting on the key of (C4 all the way to the key of C8). To me the CFX sounds too bright to my taste. I will upload a new video with my favorite pianos on both keyboards and the configuration I use. I did use factory pianos when I recorded this video.
@@ispianist I have tried your idea. However, I try back to back my YC88 and my Yamaha CVP505 and the sound difference is VERY noticeable. Which makes me sad for the CVP is nearly 15 years old. I really don't know what to do. I need a piano to perform, but being so used to that sound (505) which to me is utterly superior, makes me feel uncomfortable when playing the YC88.
@@ispianist would be nais to see a comparison with the patched values and sounds used. Also what made you change your mind on not selling the CP88, im sort of in a same boat as many trying to find a next gud piano. Sound is one of the most important to me with the right feel of key action. Was looking towards the Numa X GT and the CP88 and E920 and even the Nord Grand because of sound+action all together. I wonder if the CP88 would best choice action + sound wise, but ofc hard to answer because of everyone has a favorite keybed feel + sound taste. Right now I have to deal with my current Dexibell H1 while the sounds sound prety great, the key action is so bad it makes not even want to touch the piano haha. Other problem is there are no close by stores at all so need to rely on just tons of videos and forums to get to know each piano and its sound + action. Gud luck with all
@@mr-_-cat7381 Yes I will definitely record one video pretty soon. Stay tuned. I actually getting rid of the CP88. I do love the sound but I love the Numa GT action even more. Also I just got the iPad with the M2 chip. I do have tons of vst that complements with my numa.
@@ispianist Yo, thanks for your quick response man I appreciate it. Thats sounds awesome would love to watch that ofc no rush, your videos where very clear put together so thumbs up for that! I prob should test out the Numa X GT was in my mind for a long bit as well, and yeah for the price diff should be easy to buy an iPad with it with indeed gud chip for VST's and buy some on it. Its just to bad I can't connect my Samsung S9 Ultra with it, but then the chip of iPad is ofc way stronger in the M2/M3 line range stuff. I heard a lot of people really like the Pianoteq 8 gonna check of thoose pricings haha. Gud luck with the sell hope all goes well!
Thanks a lot for this review! Your tweaked piano on the Numa sounds so much better than the German grand. Could you describe which piano you used and what tweaks you have done to it with value numbers, etc. ? Even better would be if you could offer it as a download. Thanks a lot in advance 🙂
amazing !! great!! two questions first :what do you think about the action key bord of the nord electro ? second:what do you think of the portability of the yamaha ck 88? is it really easy to transport?? because ultimately there are still 5kg more than the north....
I honestly didn't like the action for piano purposes on the Nord electro. I sold it due the action. You can't really do Pianissimos on that keyboard. Is good for rock and other stuff but for playing soft piano and vocal is not good. You mean the CP88 ??? I do not own the CK88. But the piano CP88 does have a very good action. I will keep that one as my main piano.
@@ispianist yes I agree but to transport it regularly and play on stage the weight counts enormously.
@@georgesfromsouth2991 Yes that's what I loved about the Nord electro. So easy to transport and didn't sacrifice sound quality. If you are a piano player and want to use it as "piano" I would not recommend it. The CP88 still light weight. Only weights 40lbs and is very easy to carry it with the CP bag.
Hi,can i play backing files(wav,mp3)via usb?
Connect the piano to your phone using the USB
Hey Im considering getting a Studiologic. Does it have a drum kit patch?
Yes it does.
@@ispianist what kind of drum kit patches does it have?
great review. I have decided to go with the Numa X Piano GT to record all my digital improv. My current keys (yamaha-p15) have served me well but with every keystroke they make a thumping mechanical sound which is probably due to the plastic keys. Looking forward using the Numa as a midi interface for Pianoteq 8!
Did you buy it?
@@amitev actually I ended up buying the Studiologic SL88iGrand because I focus more on classical playing for which the keys are better. Having said that I might as well have gone with the Numa since I enjoy producing again ;) I don't think you can go wrong with either although the extra midi capabilities of the Numa do outshine the SL88i (for which youd need to buy additional faders/knobs ).
Excellent 💯🙏
Team yamaha pero me gusta el numa tambn.❤
Thanks, for a great review! It's very helpful when someone knowledgeable shares opinions about the good AND maybe bad things about gear. I'm subscribed. I've got the Numa X Piano 73 key version with the TP110 keybed and I mostly like it. To me, it feels a lot better than keyboards I've had with the TP100. I've just sold my Nord Electro 5D73 and kept the Numa. A couple of the reasons for that are 1) that the Nord's SW, synth-weighted action was uncomfortable for me when playing piano parts, and 2) many of Nord's piano samples, while they sound great in certain circumstances, don't sound particularly impressive compared to other keyboards when everything is in MONO. Before I sold my Nord, I compared the two as far as pianos (Numa and Nord), in stereo and in mono. Nord won by a fair amount in stereo, but in mono situations, where many of us, myself included, do gigs, an expensive Nord keyboard didn't sound better. That's just my opinion.
Great review! Thanks for the info!
Great video, very useful. Thank you! Do you tknow if the Numa X GT has much difference between the NUMA X? I'm struggling to find the X GT in my country but hey, after seeing your video I feel quite inclined on the GT X, specially after reading your comment that you preffered the feel of the action on the GT X A LOT MORE than the yamaha. Thanks again
I think is the exact engine, the only change is the updgraded keys action, with a very realistic response as a piano, but the engine sound is the same
Buongiorno a tutti. Saluti. Modesto 🎉
Came for the comparison, stayed for the playing. Thanks.
The studio logic sounds more like a real piano and has prettier sound, the Roland sounds a little on the boring side.
Like the softer sound of the studio logic.
Israel hermoso ❤❤❤
Im just here for the cute guy ❤❤❤
Hola bebe hermoso ❤❤❤
Don't make yourself an idiot trying to play Spain. Also use a Rhodes sound Sorry for my comment ,you should made a sound by sound comparison using you're piano skills you are not chick...just play you're style.. I had the studiologic nice pianos and some Rhodes but the rest you can't edit the sounds.
