I need to replace my kingpins in the Kodiak. It seem to wonder on the road and just didn’t seem to go straight.

This is the bead roller from Facebook that is sold by gstp auto parts. It did take a few months to get but it is pretty well made. It is made of aluminum and rolls the bead pretty effortlessly. The video is my first time trying it. In the advertisement it shows a plastic case but I definitely did not gory that. Over all it is worth the money I’d say. The link for the tool bit.ly/3po7AKE

Cheap 36 element sprag th350 part 2.

So here is part 2. Some people were saying the race wasn’t hard enough or smooth enough. I took it to the local technical college where I went to school for machining. I tested the races after machining them to a 4l80e direct drum with a 34 element sprag. It was basically the same. About the only thing is the lack of lube to the race. Can you put the dimensions on here so I can get the specs so I can take my drum to the machine shop so I can get it turned down
I’m going to turn one done and I can put the exact dimensions when I’m done if that helps. I have the sprag and a sonnax out race ordered. So when it comes in.
@@naudydave yes it will help a ton thank you
What race is used for the 36 element sprag is it a 4r100? Do I have to make a sleeve for the drum to fit the 36 element sprag? I do have a mill and a lathe so hopefully could make something.
@@davesperformance88 so I’m not sure on what race. I use the stock one for 4l80 and use a 34 element sprag. I haven’t used the pro mod one yet. When I do I’ll see what is all need to piece one together if possible.
@@naudydave I did a lot of research and it looks like you would need a 4t80 forward outer race.
@@davesperformance88 I’m kinda confused on what we’re working on. Th400. So they have a pro mod drum that’s 36 element sprag and uses like c4 clutches or something. It takes like 5 of them. You also can use a smooth th400 drum and machine the outer step.040 down and run a 34 element sprag and 4l80 direct drum outer race and use 4l80 clutch pack and pressure plate and get 4 clutches. Dave really enjoy the machine stuff. Have you ever installed new sleeve in the direct drum where the rings ride on th350 & th400. Not sure if anyone is doing this any more. They used to have kits available.
I have. I just did one on an aluminum direct drum for a th400. Wasn’t too bad to do and I also machined it for a 4l80 sprag race so I can put 4 clutches in. Sonnax make that bushing kit. I matched it so had a .002 press fit.
Thanks for the come back. I’ll give sonnax a call. I’m also looking machining and repairing the pumps not sure if is cost effective yet though. 350 & 400 pumps getting hard to find. Thanks again Bruce
Have you found anywhere to buy just the sprag? I haven't been able to and I'm assuming its nothing special and a factory part for another transmission they used. I could easily turn down my own drum if I can find one of these sprags.

Just google that. It’s for a 4t80

Do you sell the th 400 geartrain lifting handle tool ? If so where can i buy it thanks
I do. If you can message me on Facebook. I have them on market place. Just look up David Naud. I have a pic of my daughter with a nos bottle
No Facebook, sorry. Can you forward a contact so I can explain minor details and initiate an order? Thanks.
You got bigger issues if you ran with all that shit in your oil and ever had any bypass the filter
Hopefully you plugged the oil relief valve in the pan. What pump did you use? High volume? High press?
I used a stock replacement pump. So the pressure is all the same. I didn’t not plug any relief valve. It run great now.
So you just kept running it after it was tapping???
Yeah. I noticed it starting to get loader. I also figured I was replacing the came so I wasn’t worried about it bearing the cam up. I was deleting the vvt with the dod. Everything got a good cleaning before I put it back together.
I run a low 9 second car 1.28 short times with a TH350 with a break. It’s been great for over 4 years now. It’s also 2700 lbs with me it helps. I also tried a glide with the stock 1.76 gear set it ran exactly the same ET and picked up 1 mph . But the short time went to 1.32. It’s more forgiving on launch with the glide .
You bravely went there, love the feedback! On Black Friday I was buying LS7 heads for a few hundred a piece. Same deal as always with Speedmaster, you need to finish things or ID what messed up choice they made. You are a handy guy in your shop, I think of you every time I use your tools, Thank You!
Wow amazing. Cant believe it took me this long to find a video with the answer. And it isn't 30 minutes long like the rest!
Are there lip seal installer tools available for the TH350? If so, where can I find a set?
I looked around and I couldn’t find anything out there. I didn’t make anything for them seeing I really don’t do a lot of them. Or at least I try to do th400s over them.
I'd rather tap and plug the ports than hammer plugs into them. Aren't the o-rings good enough?
If I had the motor complete apart I would have. The orings probably would have been fine but the plugs are just a second line of defense. The cover is going to keep them from falling out if they ever came loose.
Im doing a DOD delete on my best friends 2014 Caprice police with the aluminum 6.0 When I was torquing down the headbolts, 1 bolt on each side (both were #10 in torque sequence) stripped the threads out of the block. Im drilling them & inserting the repair inserts now. What a pain in the ass... The engine is still in the car. I'm wondering now if i should have pulled it out? It definitely looks like this has been apart from a previous owner. It nay have b6ehat ever police department it was in before? Not sure.
So I was going to Leah mine in and do all this inside but for the extra time it took to take it out it was so much easier cleaning everything and having all the room in the world. I also go to try out my new engine stand. It has the crank to rotate the engine over. It was so nice. Got it from harbor freight for $225 on Black Friday sale. Is your friends 6.0 block aluminum or case. Heads bolts don’t normally strip out unless someone was in there and didn’t do something right.
Can that little roller sprag thing go on backwards instead of spinning left it spin to the right for example would you have reverse but no forward gear ?
So you can install it the opposite way. It is applied in second gear. You still have forward and reverse just second gear will not be right.
If that sprag is starting to fail will it effect the way it shifts into second gear my turbo 350 has the sonax outter ring but only the 16 element sprag
Ooo bye the way it has a manual reverse valve body with no band
Where does a guy get the tools?
Hey dave ive heard you sell some th400 tools do you have a site or page i can buy a few from ya?

Thanks for the info. Nice score on the aluminum drum. I bought one of your th400 tool sets, and they work great. I especially like the pressure regulator compressor. Makes that job so much easier!
Thank you for the kind words!
A lot rubbish the Speedmaster stuff. Yes ,some of it does need a little work. But they are definitely filling a hole in the market for some parts that just are not available elsewhere, particularly some of the ford stuff
Well that and they really make it a little more affordable for the people just getting in to the auto racing. Sure they take a little work but most of us have more time than money.
nice show dave i always wondered about these cases i was wondering do you have any more of those lifting brackets and if so how much would you want plus shipping to 4211 gaven area queensland australia thanks nick
I think I was selling them $30. I can check on what shipping would be
I have done this tci kit to my th350 and I have no 2nd 3rd or reverse gear the only gear I have is 1st any pointers where to look
Do did you do a full rebuild or just installed the valvebody on a running transmission
Full rebuild was done and trans was working fine before the rebuild
So it’s probably going to be a piston seal that might of got messed up during installation. The forward drum should be fine seeing you have first gear but the other ones are tough to say for sure seeing you don’t have anything else. I would pull all apart and inspect them. I’d probably get a gasket and seal kit just to have so if they are in bad shape you can replace them. Once you get it apart you can air check it to verify what ones are bad.
Can you share pics of what the engine bay looks like with the cab down. Would like to see how close everything gets.

Did you move it 4 inches back to clear the old Pan from the front end?
I moved it back to clear for a stock fan setup. I didn’t want to put electric fans.
Hi Dave, I received my full manual valve body (tci 321115) without 2-3 piston accumulator, can I install it like that? Thanks for the video
Yes. It comes like that so you shift quicker. The separator plate will block off any of the feed holes for it. I’ll double check the instructions and let you know if you need to do anything special
So go to min 9:50 on this video and you can see where you need to tap and plug the case. You will need to do that to your transmission. It would be easier with it out of the vehicle but can be done in it. Just make sure to clean the aluminum from drilling and tapping the 2 holes.
Thank you very much for your quick response, are both tap and plug required? or can I leave the 1-2 servo in place?@@naudydave
Hold on. You might not have to do the drilling. I went to jegs website and when you click the link it takes you to a valve body without engine braking. Your retains it. I’ll have to find the right instructions
So Dave, now that you have the t 350 intermediate problem solved. We use the low gear roller out of a 4l60e. Now when are they going to break the case apart.
The stock case is a limiting factor in the th400 as well. That’s why they make a aftermarket case. But that’s when you have to decide if your going to take that leap. I would be building a th400 over the th350. Parts are bigger and the stock hard parts can take way more power than a 350.
I now know why turbo 350s break the cases.
This maybe of some help about this 36 element sprag. Back in the day; Borg Warner (part #08147AM) TH350 Intermediate 36 Element Sprag (oem #138147A). Is what was used to do an upgrade. I do believe it will require less machining. Hope this helps and love your work. Thank you.
I tried to find them but everyplace was sold out. I try to see what I need to do to make them work once I can get my hands on one
Do you remember what the price on the full kit was? Thanks in advance
So I ordered it in July 2020 so prices could be different now but it was $5100. That was the wire harness and computer reflash, torque converter, tps, starter, torque converter core and shipping. I got the trans to 12 valve adapter on eBay for like $1200.
Just email me if you have any questions naudydave@yahoo.com
@@naudydave Awesome, I appreciate all the information! Do you know if this would work for a 01 gas 2500hd Silverado? I am swapping the 6.0 with a 12v and Alison 1000 6 speed.
Yea but they do have a different wiring harness and stuff for 6 speed. Also with a 6 speed you can get a display for the gear it’s in. The owner Dave and kc are easy to take to. They don’t always answer the phone but they call back everyone. They are the experts in the swap. They have adapter plates and everything so you can get it all from them if you want.
@@naudydaveAh ok that’s good to know. I definitely will contact them. I already have an adapter plate and everything else to do the swap just need harness and computer, so I’m sure they can help me out. Thanks for the information! Have a blessed one.
What do you mean by test plate. When I was seeing what was going to work I made about 10 different one out of 1/8inch to see where everything was going to be. I have a cnc plasma cutter and has to tweak the part in fusion 360 cad program.
Hi dave have you made any test plates?? Look for one for 400 and do you mark all holes? Thx dave.
nice build
how much would you charge to build one? Can't find anything anywhere.
So I have the factory j tool. I would be willing to sell for what I paid for.
The B&M pan comes with same bolt and washers. B&M gasket is cheap cork, that gasket you got looks way way better. I bought longer #10 bolt and nut set from home Depot got them longer and I used star lock washers and I used flat washer on the top filter side and on the underside with added star lock washers. The filter is easy to replace. I got mine from my auto parts store near by. 1962 Chrysler 727 transmission. The filter that came with the B&M filter looks to be cheap quality and made in Taiwan. I paid 255 for my kit with tax. Looks like you made a good buy. I feel like I should of gotten the speed master brand, I'd have to just get over the bad reputation the had when they were named procomp. I plan on threading the filter holes next time I have to change the filter.
I’ve had both B&m and speedmaster pans. They see to be just the same. I’ve had like 10 speedmaster ones and only had one that had a leak. It had a casting flaw where it leaked from where they machines it. I called jegs and they swapped it for me no problem. The problem is when you buy all your parts over time and when you put it together and find a problem. More than likely your past the return date. I kinda prefer the cork gasket but there is quality of cork gasket too the thick blue one that comes with the pan I have never used. It just doesn’t feel right when you tighten it.
Thanks big mike!
Nice build! Looks very well thought out.
Why don't you just use the center support and the pump
You absolutely can. This is so you can check it without having to put them together and put you seals on Center support or pump. All it is, is another tool in your arsenal
That's pretty cool what you built there, and that's some serious equipment to have in what looks like a garage shop! However, I would ask if it is worth duplicating the factory design, when you could design something with fewer pivot points and much better geometry. My 96 with 4k springs and the afc live is so touchy, trying to drive easy around town, the slightest bump sends the truck bucking and lurching in the first 3 gears. And I know I'm not alone with this, after googling it too. I cannot perceive the movement of my foot, so I've taken to just jamming my foot sideways against the trans tunnel to stop it. (solid axle swapped chevy, but still rides better than my obs f350) Just eyeballing the geometry, it looks like the top part of the pedal movement moves the throttle the most amount of degrees per inch of pedal travel. It should be the opposite. If you look at the arm connected to the pivot part of the pump, where the rod mounts should be on the top, not the back. If I were designing a throttle system for this from scratch, I would connect the cable right to the pivot on the pump, not through a separate pivot point, then through another rod. I have no idea why they designed it that way.
Once I get some time I’ll probably make something that goes directly to the fuel lever. I’m building a Prostreet s10 now and it’s taking most of my time. I have to pull my truck in the garage and pull the transmission. It needs to be rebuilt. So I’ll have some time to sit and figure out something that is less expensive and easier for me to make. I have quite a bit of time machining parts and I go through most of the holes with an end mill so they are better looking and more precise. The cnc plasma does a good job but there is still a lot of clean up.
@@naudydave Any videos on the s10? Yeah, I don't know how I'd make it either, but I'd bet everything connected right at the fuel lever would be an improvement. Especially if it were a pulley style, to eliminate the wear point on the plastic end of the cable/cables.
The only problem would be you would need a pretty long cable for it to work seeing it needs to pull towards the front of motor. I plan on making some videos on it. Just been trying to just get it on the road
whats the name of the bellhousing to the left , the trans on the shelf?
Do you have these, or can this be used for a 4BT?
nice little modification
If you have a 3/16" hole right into the clutch apply oil circuit...you're gonna have big issues with 3rd gear clutch apply
In my one I bought they had no lube circuit. On a th400 they have 2 holes about the same size. With hydraulic pressure I’m hoping this one effect to much. This is all experimental. I’m going to test it. I would of liked to do a 1/8 but I’ll see what this does. Best bet would be to see a nice name brand 36 element sprag and drum and see what they did but I don’t have an extra $7-800
@@naudydave th400 has a dedicated lube circuit...its not getting oil from the clutch apply. This will be a MASSIVE hydraulic leak for the 3rd gear circuit I'd honestly be a little surprised if 3rd gear will even apply the way you currently have it
I get that. It’s all trial and error. I’ll find out pretty quick. Making an transmission tester so I can run them and be able to check pressures. Holes can always be restricted if need be.
I'd like to know the solution for this. I know the sprag needs lube oil, but where it gets it is a huge question mark to me. Thanks anyway!
i would think the left over un machined lines would eat up the sprag
It’s hard to say. I got this one that way. I don’t think it would do much. You have other parts making contact and should fill up with fluid.
good luck and keep us informed on how it works out for you.
I'm also curious. I've heard of these things burning up on guys, so I would like to know why
