      Without more information it's hard to say. If you have started the engine and light off has occured, it will only stop because of damage or fuel starvation. Check all the systems on the efb and that all your circuit breakers are in.

    The variable speed on the trim is inherent to the MSFS key binding for elevator trim and as far as I know there's no way to change it. I just don't hold it down for long unless I need to make a large change.

Spad is such an awesome program, which I highly recommend. In fact, today I was reminded of one of the best reasons for using it. MSFS (once again) loaded up and erased all of my settings, forcing me to reset things and reassign a few controls. Fortunately, I had the majority (~95%) of every button, switch and axes mapped through spad and saved as a LJ35 profile 🙂

      @alpinebravo7090 2 месяца назад

      Thanks! Yeah, sorry getting all the deep technical stuff done first. Actual flight tutorials coming soon. But in the interim, here is my descent procedure using the autopilot: 1) Select a lower altitude on the preselector. 2) Arm Alt Sel on the autopilot 3) Turn off Alt hold mode 4) Use the barrel switch to set a 3-5° pitch down on the FD command bars. (See tutorial 1 for an explanation of this and the keybinds you should use). OR press and hold the 'manouvre switch ' (again see part 1 for explanation) and manually pitch the aircraft down. 5) The aircraft will now be descending. Use either method above to tweak it to get the desired VS or speed. You can leave it in mode ('pitch') or engage either VS or SPD modes to hold the current value. What's different about this autopilot is there is no way of directly setting VS or IAS as with the Garmin's we are all more used to. You have to set the pitch first and then only engage VS or SPD once you have reached the rate/speed you want. You can also use the throttles to get the target speed. I usually descend using VS of -1800fpm from Tod. That gives a nice 3° glide path. And then manage speed manually.

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 2 месяца назад

      That's also a good way of initiating an initial descent. Two points to keep in mind: - Above 29000ft, use the Mach (m) submode when using SPD. Use the IAS submode below. At the transition there may be a level-off unless you resynchronize by cycling the SPD mode off/on - It may take some adjustment of the PLs to maintain the desired VS as this will change as the engine performance alters as you descend into thicker air. But this is true if using VS for the descent as well and I find that isn't a good option as an overspeed can easily occur if the pilot is inattentive. -

    A good presentation of crosswind technique. I will say that in my RW flying days in the 70's there were certainly many pilots who preferred the forward slip approach for crosswinds which you've nicely demonstrated. However, there were also some (myself included) who preferred crabbing all of our crosswinds. I preferred it because I could fly the plane level most of the way in, holding the center-line with the crab. I would literally cross the threshold still in the crab. Near transition altitude I would swing the nose to center while dropping the upwind wing and touch down on that wheel. It just felt more natural to some of us.

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 3 месяца назад

      That's really interesting. For me in the SIM it depends on the aircraft type - I find it easier to crab the 737 and ATR. With the Kodiak I find it really easy to hold the forward slip - and it's good for STOL too. One of the problems with landing all round is the lack of peripheral vision and g forces that help make all the little adjustments. Right now I'm struggling with my crosswind landings in the Learjet. Likes to wobble a lot on touchdown.

    • @randallrocke1151
      @randallrocke1151 2 месяца назад

      @@alpinebravo7090 MSFS is a wonderful thing, but there are a lot of complex issues to overcome when simulating the effects of winds, especially crosswinds and the interaction between wheels and ground. I think they've made some improvements recently, especially with friction and ground interaction, but there is a lot more work to be done. - Crosswind effects are way overdone - period. - Aircraft are weather-vaning far beyond what they would in the RW. - I've landed a C152 in 90-degree 10K crosswinds in the RW, but have been literally blown off the runway in large aircraft in the SIM. - I've made almost perfect crosswind approaches only to have the aircraft slide sideways as though the runway had been sprayed with Vaseline, and there was no response from aileron input or ground-steering for a few seconds. There are still problems with the SIM transitioning from flight to ground, though, as you have mentioned, the aircraft type (and its flight model) can make a difference.

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 2 месяца назад

      @randallrocke1151 Yes, the excessive weathervane effect coupled with the lack of lateral friction gave some very unrealistic landing behaviour (Asobo even set the SIM to cut ground wind by 40% as a partial remedy without this being reflected in ATIS) I've done a good bit of testing with the new ground handling variables introduced in SU15. These do help a lot but with 2 major caveats: A) They have to be implemented on each aircraft model. It's not a global fix. Thus far some Devs have, many haven't. B) They don't apply if the aircraft Is IAS is above Vso, as then the SIM applies 'flight' physics. Which is understandable, but the transition between the two states is abrup, meaning one moment you are rolling along with your nice sticky tires keeping you aligned and the next you start experiencing wind drift even with wheels on the ground. Still makes for messy landings. It all still needs more work by Asobo and IMO is the one most serious defect in MSFS.

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 3 месяца назад

      Hi, there are quite a few different ways of arranging reverse thrust and it depends on not just your controller, but also how the thrust axis has been mapped - MSFS offers various options including the +/- 100 axis, which offers scope for a soft detent between forward and reverse which is ok as reverse cannot be engaged in the air by accident (there has to be weight on the wheels). If I understood your post right, you use separate axes for the reverse thrust? That would work, but definitely wouldn't be my first choice of configuration as it means shifting your hand position at a critical moment.

    Nice video. whats the frame rate impact when you pop out all those screens? Cheers

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 3 месяца назад

      Not much if any now they changed the code for how pop-outs work back around SU10 (NanoVG?) . I think screen heavy aircraft themselves have the biggest impact, particularly if they are running a complex EFB or similar. For me, being able to easily read the flight instruments is so important and pop outs are the best solution for me. In some aircraft like the CRJ, the default pilot camera position is so far back and the screens so small, I would struggle to fly the plane without using pop outs.

      @@alpinebravo7090 thanks mate. so yo are using air manager or the freeware to pop out your ND etc..? Also what software for the MCDU? Cheers

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 3 месяца назад

      @josemello804 I use Pop out panel manager to bring the screens out. You don't need to, but it's better than doing it manually each time you start the sun. Plus it will also allow you to remove the white title bar, lock it in place etc I used Air Manager for the digital display of steam gauges, switch etc. you can also use it in conjunction with popped out screens - e.g. there is a G1000 bezel available in Air Manager that has all the buttons knobs etc, but has a transparent center. So you pop out your G1000 screen and then have Air Manager place the bezel around it. Works very nicely. There are also things like the ATR MCDU to you pop that screen out and can place the MCDU instrument around it. Load easier than looking down in the virtual cockpit. @@alpinebravo7090 Agreed. I use trackIR and still cant see that CRJ screens. I want to get a setup like what you have but I want small small screen to place them on. I saw last year that one company was gonna be making such pfd's and mfd's.

      @wildfiremichael Didn't Honeycomb say they were going to make a small monitor with a single rotary dial? I hope it was another company! UPDATE: It was Honeycomb. They previewed screens called the HC Delta. Doubt that will ever happen any time soon now... It's surprisingly hard to find a reasonably priced small HD monitor. There are ones the right size which are touch screen as well but they are designed for medical/industrial use and very pricey (£300?)

    As much as I love the kodiak, i dont fly it anymore. SMS NEVER had the approach dialed in...on your first approach take a look at the ball...as soon as you were under 90 you were totally uncoordinated and skidding...this comes from their left turn tendency fetish. the p factor for this model has never been right, add to that the weird autopilot trimming that is in the entire game and you have a cluster fuck every time you try and land the kodiak. they wanted so bad to capture the left turn of the pt-6 that they screwed the entire model up...and now they have abandoned it and made no improvements in about a year

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 3 месяца назад

      Well, it's certainly harder to land than most, but I can't agree with what you say. With over 800 hours in the Kodiak now, I really have no difficulty maintaining an approach even in a strong crosswind. Like the PC-12 SWS took a lot of input from the manufacturer when designing the flight model and they are just not as much of a compromise as many other types. Harder to fly, sure. But then that's part of the appeal of SWS aircraft. They certainly haven't abandoned the Kodiak, but they have been busy with the PC-12 and getting the Kodiak 900 ready. One thing all the Devs are looking at currently is how to implement the new ground physics that came with SU15 which is likely to prompt some updates to be released. Other than the flight model which I get you would like to see changed, what else would you like to see updated in the Kodiak? Personally Id like a proper systems failure module for it like the FSR500 has. But those are a lot of work for a Dev so it would probably need to be a payware bolt on.

Alex from SWS did ask me to do some tutorials before launch, but it was around the same time the FSR500 was launching and I simply didn't have the time then, But all the SWS aircraft are great in my view and there are some.good IRL resources for me to draw on. So I think I have my candidate for my next project! Cheers. B

    i just started flying the CJ 4 a few weeks ago and your video was really informative. I did a few flights with very few problems, but after SU 15 the MFD will not come ON? Only the Master Caution warning is showing. Have you or anybody else noticed this, and any suggestions?

    • @alpinebravo7090
      @alpinebravo7090 4 месяца назад

      Hi, I've not been able to do any simming since SU15. One suggestion would be to make sure your avionics switch is not going to DISPATCH position, but is fully on. Otherwise other things to watch out for are 3rd party liveries or mods like the Wooselmod - try with everything default. If it works then you know it is a conflict with a mod.

      Great stuff. I have the PC-12. Just never had time to learn it and do some videos on it. For the ATR I watched a lot of the Fly with Magnar videos and well as finding a copy of the FCOM and FCTM on Scribd. It's nicely modelled. A few bugs, but what it really needs is a failure model to make it a great aircraft. However ATR/Airbus didn't want that apparently. Which is a shame as it was clearly coded with all the subsystems properly modelled so failures would have mattered
