I am using 255 55 18 Toyo Open Country AT+ and have served me well Yoko Geolander G015 or Flakern Wildpeak AT3 are good tryes. If you can afford the BFG K02 are the best.

Both good and capable cars a d sem to be quite equal. Don't know to much about X-trails but meant to be solid and reliable. I do prefer the look of the Freelander 2, but thats more my preferance than anything else..

I have had 5 Freelander 2’s, but no X Trails, so can’t advise which is best. But… The Freelander 2 works best as an automatic (I’ve owned both kinds). It’s much better suited to off road and towing and the clutch is not the strongest, while the automatic is extremely robust.

Hi and Thankyou. As for your issue to start with might be the torque convertor. But before headinng down that route would advise and adaptive autobox reset (if you google it you should see the sequence) if not then try a full autobox flush.

Thanks for the reply have the car booked in for the 15th for a full service and gearbox flush and new oil. Hoping this will work but worried it may be the torque converter. Any rough idea as to how much this should cost to replace? Do you do any green lanes in Derbyshire Peak District? If there are some easy days out would love come join. No was a calculated risk, I looked and first didnt seem to bad, but the mud was deciving and sides were vertical ince the soft mud parted. Liners and that are all goo nothing a bit of platic welding couldnt sort.🤣

The mods are 20/30 lift, wider AT tyres, 30mm spacers from an off road point of veiw. All breathers are secure and in place, one way valve in airbox is in place and K&N filter as paper filters are usless and potentially damaging if they get wet. Airhorn, spots, light bar, roof basket, cb are all in there but that is all superficial.

I have found them to be very capable. But care and caution is required, you just have to think about situations not just give it full send.

Create a bow wave and the keep just behind it is the key. Most fall down where they get part way through and then through over confidence or panic and then floor it then overtake the bow wave then it is game over.

No, i do not run a snorkle. I think you electric will give our first. Main concern are breathers and airbox one way valve being secure.
