It surprises me that this cover still has little views. I listened to this quite a bit a few years ago, and now im coming back to it. Nice cover, have a nice life
as someone that has a RZ67 and a pentax 6X7 i can confirm the pentax is significantly heavier.
Thank you for making an actual long term review. I'm so tired of 1 month "long term" reviews.
You are the only person I’ve found who clearly explains the Auto/Manual switch in the lens! I’ve been extremely confused by it found it hard to find any information anywhere. Thank you for covering that my friend 🤝
I love my 6x7 MLU
Great evaluation n pics...just moved up to 120. Every role of foma I shot in 35mm was rebranded Arista edu on the rebate. Turns out Arista is cheaper then Fomapan. I found this to be true price wise in 120 also...so it's Kentmere n Arista for me...
Nice review, have you used the wide angle lens 45mm 4。How does the 45mm distortion perform ?super wide lens tends to have barrel distortion and some lens is quite heavy distorted。。。
Your developing and scanning look good.
I have a question. I have the 105, 55 and 75 all SMC pentax. For some reason, with the 105 and the 75, when I stop down the aperture in manual mode, it also stops down the lens. So if my lens is at 22, I can't even see what I'm trying to get in focus because it's too dark. The only lens that doesn't stop down is the 55 - I can see a bright screen at all apertures. Do you know why this happens to the 105 and 75 but not the 55? i have to focus wide open and then fix my fstop its pretty annoying.
if youd answer my question id appriciate it thank you.
Nice video RS. Canada
Do you feel foam pan 200 real iOS200?some guy say it’s 100,Besides did you push this film?contrast is really perfect.
From what I have gathered, Fomapan's true ISO is about half of the listed ISO. 100 is 50, 200 is 100, 400 is 200. It depends on the developer you or you're lab is using as well. In this video I did not push the film.
@@BrocktonAnderson by the way ,what developer did you use?d76 stock?
@@zhongyao-sc1lj I got these developed at The Darkroom as I don't develop myself, and apparently they don't list what chemicals they use on their website which is unfortunate. I would guess it's probably XTOL, but I'm not certain.
I would recommend you also try out a 3D printed right grip (remove the left grip when testing out the right grip). It makes the camera feel like a modern DSLR (similar to my Nikon D850 with the vertical grip only a bit bigger and heavier).
Great photos, my man, but you’re not fooling anybody with that cute little shutter sound you super imposed into the video. We all know that, with that 6 x 7, your neighbors were waking up every time you hit the shutter release button lol. I really like the idea of taking photograph of things in your home so that you can practice seeing Monday and things in a different light. Excellent job here. Also, that lens is incredible.
Actually it is the real sound of the shutter being picked up on the lav mic! It's louder in person though.
Nerds acting cool, is so cool. 🤓
Have you heard about film developers and chemistry and how it influences the image you're getting?
The pink house rocks! Just like the F3 does btw
What size lens did you use? 28mm?
50mm
Somebody doing a lame version of Grainy Days.👎
What? How so? The only similarity between this guy and Jason is that they both take pictures and make videos?…
@@xesse1 If you can't see it, perhaps a hobby heavily dependent on observational skills is not for you. Word to the wise.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
Foma was much nicer, i love the contrast. I would shoot T-Max all the time if it wasn’t 2x more expensive
Thanks for the comment on the auto switch. 1 less thing to worry about. I do use the lenses on my Pentax 6x7 and need to hit the auto switch with that camera. 75mm f4, 200mm f4, 135mm f4 Macro, 55mm f4.
Thanks for the info about the grainy film. I just got a couple of rolls because I never shot it before. I took notes. I’m going to forgive you about that camera strap business. Sometimes you have to make exceptions to use what you have.
it's amazing! please keep it up!
Great vid, when developing did you ask pull\push the film, or did u develop as is?
Just developed as is
Beautiful stuff! Question-that shot in the yard, you talked through switching from f/5.6 at 250 to f/8 at 125. What was the thought process there? It turned out lovely, was it just to keep more of the frame in focus since you were relatively close to it?
I think I was expecting to not have as much light as I did, so I expected to be forced into shooting at 5.6. So I think when I realized I could get more in focus without risking camera shake or under exposure, I went with f/8.
I like your honest appraisal of both these films, I was looking to maybe venture into the budget arena, however not sure its budget anymore, I will stick with my current stock and accept the price hike.
the mario edit ahaha, great work
Foma for sure. Kentemere has loads of midtone detail but no real contrast.
I agree with you. Fomapan 400 in 120 feels like a different film than its 135 version. I've shot a ton of it in 135 and, although it's not the easiest film to get good results from, it's awesome when I manage to make it work. In 120 format, I've never been impressed.
A very informative video. I've owned two Pentax 6x7 (non-MLU versions) since the mid-70s and love shooting with them. I recently had both of them with TTL meters completely rebuilt (not just CLA'd). Hopefully I'll be shooting with them for many more years. I use the TTL averaging meter when shooting color and a hand held Spotmeter II when shooting B&W so I can expose for the shadow details or highlight details depending on the shot. I've purchased the 35mm fisheye, 45mm, 75mm, 105mm, 135mm macro, 200mm & 300mm lenses through the years. I have a 3D printed right grip on each body so I use the left hand top & bottom posts for my strap and cross my body the way you do. I find that very comfortable.
How accurate is the TTL prism? I'm torn between the 67ii and 67 (of course this is the most reasonable option) but im worried about the accuracy of the 67 TTL when using colored film. Id like to hear your thoughts on this!
@@youtubeisannoying3907 - Both of my TTL meters are spot on when shooting color. No external hand-held meter needed. Use it like you would any 35mm film camera or digital camera.
I would be interested to see how this film would render colours if an 85b filter was used. One stop of light would be lost adding to the challenge to shoot it, but something tells me it might in theory get a more natural look.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no radioactive elements in any 67 lenses. Only a few select M42 mount Takumar optics for 35mm had Thorium in them, (35mm f2, 50mm f1.4, 50mm macro).
Unfortunately, that is not the case. The 6x7 Takumar lenses have a very small amount of Thorium in them.
What's the best macro lens you've tried? Thanks
There is only one for the 6x7 - the 135mm macro. I have one and it is my second favorite lens after my 105mm f2.4 normal lens.
Really nice photos! I usually shoot HP5 but will give this a go. I like the anti-theft camera strap 🥸 Subscribed
more like the hometown of Paramore
Had no idea of this fact
I hope you don't mind me making another point in the comments! You commented that it was annoying that there was a boring modern car in the way of the beautiful house you wanted to shoot. I recently had something of a lightbulb moment after also being grumpy about annoying modern things or crowds being in the way of what I wanted to shoot. Then I realised I was being an idiot. One reason I shoot film is because I want a tangible permanent record of the scene, not some ephemeral thing that I'll share to followers, or a file that I'll have to keep in "the cloud" for decades. I like to compose layers so I deliberately work out the most interesting way to include the annoying modern thing or the crowd as an actual layer in the composition. The 'annoying modern thing' layer *will* eventually become of historical interest ... especially when you are in your 80s and looking through your old negatives. (Make sure you give them a damn good wash and get all the chemicals out of them, of course!)
Finally someone made a good video using Formapan. I use it alot because it is ... cheap and I like the look of it.
I’m glad you mentioned hiking and contact lenses for those who don’t know. 😆 I borrowed my uncle’s 6x7 MLU to take photos in San Francisco. 1) It’s comparable to carrying a child in your bag. You’re lugging around this metallic thing great distances with 2 additional lenses packed up, it’s tiresome after 9 miles of walking. 2) I scratched my Maui Jim’s when I had the eyepiece pressed against my glasses. 😢 3) Yeah, my uncle’s 6x7 MLU and 67II receives annual maintenance. My uncle’s got connections with someone who can do a routine cleanup, so I’ll be using the same person when I’m in town 4) I’ve had my 6x7 MLU for two months now, and my uncle told me about the Manual or Auto for the Aperture. “Just leave the damn thing on auto.” 5) On eBay Mint with Grip is like $900 before S&H. After reviewing the seller, I jumped on it, added in the Takumar 105 2.4 as well.
Pro tip, find a 67II eyepiece and your glasses will be spared. Picked one up recently and it's a great upgrade, although pretty pricey.
@@BrocktonAnderson Doesn't have to be a 67II eyepiece. I just use a Nikon eyepiece, much more common. Took one off my F100, but I could also use one from my D850, F3HP etc.
@@vipEmpire_ I actually tried my F3HP eyepiece and the screw was too long so it stuck out from the prism. I'm sure there are other options though.
@@BrocktonAnderson Oh yeah I forgot about that. The F100/n8008/n90 eyepiece works the best. Fits perfectly and looks stock. They're all the same thread size but yeah there are quirks
Thanks for the inspiration to go back to shoot 12s. Wish I had a 6x7 to take there 😅
Good review. I like your laid back style. CineStill's sketchy corporate behaviour holds me back from using their stock, though
Nice relaxing video. Purring muse is boss!
Nice video sir though I am still unsure as to why every video about film, puts more emphasis and mention on the 'camera and film type used 'and not the' lens and film type used'.
It's partially a branding and convenience thing. If someone is looking for film videos on RUclips, they are usually looking for a camera system/brand that may encompass many different kinds of "x"-mount lenses and invites people in for further investigation. The name of a lens means very little to a broad audience, while a camera system is more all encompassing and pleasing to a video title. I used to think the same way about camera bodies in that they are functionally black boxes, but I've come to believe that bodies are more important than we give them credit for. The reason people have been coming back to film is not just for the negatives, but also the experience and how a camera inspires them. The lens is the technical aspect responsible for a majority of the actual outcome, but your camera body is a form of self-expression and can put you in a space where you feel a particular way. I think film is all about capturing that energy. While digital can feel more documentative, film feels more like an imperfect memory that captures a feeling or an essence. Choosing a film body can be like choosing between cars. They may be almost identical under the hood, and they accomplish the same task, but something about one makes you feel a certain way over another. The look, the slight operational differences, the history. It's something that can't always be measured, but matters all the same. And maybe this is a new-school way of thinking that legacy film photographers don't identify with, but it's a movement within photography that I personally see in myself and others that choose film over digital in the modern era. It's a rejection of technical perfectionism, embracing the lens as just another complementary piece of the triangle. Cheers!
@@BrocktonAnderson Thank you again sir for your reply.Makes sense now as I myself have always wanted and have only used my Nikon FM which I adore. Cheers.
@@BrocktonAnderson Good discussion. For me, it's mostly all about the lens, but the body is important too. I recently went on a huge once in a lifetime trip and before I went I thought long and hard about the photography aspect. I looked at DSLRs but I felt that I would be spending a lot of money on a sensor that could be obsolete within a few years. I decided to return to film photography and get hold of the best 50mm prime lens I could buy ... I got a Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar MC 50mm F1.8 lens which I paired with a very basic Praktica MTL-5B back, to replace the one I stupidly threw out years ago. I used T-Max 400 for this very important trip because I didn't want to take any chances with the photography on the trip. During the trip I managed to pick up a superbly refurbished FED-2 from the Soviet era with a lens in great condition. I find the FED-2 less cumbersome to use than the Praktica, so I have started using it for more casual photography. I was limited in what new film I could by during the trip, and randomly acquired some Fomapan 200 in a small kiosk, so I decided to try it out in the FED-2. For serious documentary-style photography I will still use my Praktica because of its excellent lens, but I will use the FED for less important stuff. The combined cost of these two refurbished cameras with lenses, along with re-equipping myself with darkroom kit, has come in at around one-quarter of what I would have spent on a DSLR kit ... which like I said would probably turn out to be obsolete in a few years.
I always wondered how the earliest photographers dealt with the very low film sensitivity available at the time. Now I know. The tripod - world’s greatest invention after the wheel and pillows. Great video as always. I think you’re a tad bit harsh about the film, because washed out colours have their charms. But then, have never been a fan of Polaroid. This for me is Polaroid without the pretension.
wonderful😊
It’s rare that I watch a photo walk of a spot I so precisely visited and photographed myself recently, but this was it! So fun to see how you approached the same subjects! I was Leica Q2, which, while great, wasn’t the same as your 67. But I’m now 500CM, so chasing the same. And yes, Gold! Sweet.
Funny enough, I follow another Nashville photographer who also shot this same street and even the Porsche and was posting around the time of this video (and he actually posted another photo of that Porsche yesterday haha). We out here.
good video and good shots. I wonder which apertures you've used on the shots, just to get a sense of how soft it gets as the aperture changes, but still, I do like the shots!
The close-up was wide open at f3.5, and the other I want to say was at f5.6.
What lens did you shoot with on this day?
105 f2.4
where do you send in your 67 for CLA / repairs?
Eric Hendrickson. His website is "Pentaxs." Bit old fashioned and communication can feel minimal, but he's very well known for servicing these cameras.
I like the look of your strap! Can you please tell us more about it?
It's the Peak Design Slide. Maybe a little stiff, but it's very sturdy and works great for the Pentax. Kind of like a thick seatbelt.
Thanks!@@BrocktonAnderson
@@BrocktonAnderson - Thanks for the info. I have a Peak Design Slide on my Nikon D850 and will check it out for my 6x7s. The original strap is very painful.
