I remember when I bought Kodak Gold 200 at any grocery store 25-30 years ago. Now it’s treated as a luxury/pro film and it just cracks me up!
it's not, it's still a budget stock. but due to its prevalence in the 80s/90s it's become very nostalgic for a lot of people.
It’s rare that I watch a photo walk of a spot I so precisely visited and photographed myself recently, but this was it! So fun to see how you approached the same subjects! I was Leica Q2, which, while great, wasn’t the same as your 67. But I’m now 500CM, so chasing the same. And yes, Gold! Sweet.
Funny enough, I follow another Nashville photographer who also shot this same street and even the Porsche and was posting around the time of this video (and he actually posted another photo of that Porsche yesterday haha). We out here.
That Porsche shot is still top 10 for me
Thanks for the inspiration to go back to shoot 12s. Wish I had a 6x7 to take there 😅
Thank you for posting! Your metering and exposure decisions were spot on. I recently purchased the Pentax 6x7 and I am excited to go shoot with it.
You made a great choice!
I like Gold 200 a lot. I still probably like Portra slightly more, but for the price difference, it’s hard to beat.
You got some really good shots. The photo of the Porsche in the store was spot on. Just subbed!
I have had the same problem that you have had but I was using Kodak Portra 160 and 400 fortunately I didn’t damage my camera. I liked your images from the Kodak Gold 200 I just purchased 5 rolls
the mario edit ahaha, great work
oh I just learned with you that I broke my 6x7 but in my case was with old rolls of Lomo 800. CLA is booked already but yeah.. now my theory of what happened is clear - good shots!!
A difficult lesson to learn haha
Great video
Huge 12th S vibes
nice, dude.
Great shots! Just subscribed. What kind of strap do you use to attach it? Just picked up a 67 and it didn't come with any strap.
I use the Peak Design Slide. I use the larger one, but they also have a "lite" version which would probably work as well. Depends how much neck support you want.
@@BrocktonAnderson thanks for the info! I have that exact strap and thought yours looked similar lol. I just kept looking for the "red anchor" things (even paused your video a few times haha) to make sure, but couldn't see them. thanks for confirming that it works and holds the weight of the 67!
I recently bought a Mamiya RB67 pro SD and am trying to figure out how best to use it. I've shot two rolls of Portra 400 and am waiting for my local lab to return the proofs and high-rez scans. I can't wait to see the results. Given the cost of Portra, gold might be a better medium to experiment. Any thoughts?
Personally, I like almost everything about Gold more than Portra aside from the speed. Especially since I usually slightly overexpose, it doesn't give you a lot of room sometimes, but for the price difference it's a no brainer. If you want a flat scan where you get to control every aspect of the editing, then Portra may excel there, but I'm always happier with my scans straight from the lab with Gold.
I'm seeing a lot of Kodak Gold clips on RUclips. I have a five-pack of portra that I will shoot through, but I think Gold, based on RUclips clips, will be my film of choice.
So how would you describe the subject of most of your photos? I notice you like a mix of light and shadows, and almost always take photos of scenes influenced by human activity (vehicles, buildings, streets, people themselves). Are you going for something specific, are those shots just products of the environment you decided to shoot in, or are you just taking photos of random things you find interesting?
I just look for interesting light and compositions most of the time. I like shooting around golden hour if at all possible. My subjects change a lot. I like architecture and landscape. I usually avoid photos of people as the primary subject, but I do like using people to fill space. I haven't totally worked out a signature style yet, but a lot of it just has to do with finding balance. And I typically prefer warmer tones and a more pastel look a lot of the time.
I know you said you did 2/3 a stop over so does that mean you shot it at 125 ISO or like over 200? I love these tonez. Also carrying around a Pentax cross-body style with a PD strap is crazy but I applaud you. Must have weighed a ton!
Yep, metered at 125 ISO! Still generally exposing for middle grey when possible, usually the street/green grass in the sun or lighter shadows.
And yeah, I've tried so many different ways to carry this hunk around and so far this is what has felt the most comfortable long term. The lug positions on the back of the wood grip work well to keep the strap out of your face when you bring the camera up to your eye. Otherwise I find the ends of the strap drooping over your hands or getting in the way of your eye to be kind of annoying.
I used to think people exaggerated the weight of the Pentax, and to a certain degree I still think that, but after so many years of this thing under my belt, I have started considering lighter options. Hiking with it can be brutal. But hey, at least it's not the RB/RZ67. ;)
You should shoot Lomography or color slide next. Both really fun experiences.
Some special slide film will definitely make an appearance soon. I've shot a little Lomo in the past and would love to do that again too.
@@BrocktonAnderson excited to see thr results man!
Are you from the same place as Matt Day? You kinda speak the same. Great video
I'm originally from rural Illinois, but now I live in Tennessee. I believe Matt is from Ohio, so we're both kind of midwesterners.
