WHAT'S THE MATTER?! BRAIN MATTER ALTERATIONS IN ANOREXIA II PART 1

LET'S TALK BRAIN MATTER!! We're starting things off with a brief exploration into the neurological mechanisms that MAY have influence in the disorder Anorexia, and enhance our understanding of it's pathophysiology. Whilst this doesn't cover all bases, my hope is that we can expand these areas together and JUST GET TALKING about the complexity of this disorder and where our areas of focus should...

LET'S TALK FITNESS APPS: ANOREXIA RECOVERY

Let’s talk fitness apps.📱🍏🤸🏻‍♂️ . Now, whilst they can be a beneficial tool for certain individuals, we have to remember that this is a NICHE market & although these applications are available to all....THAT DOES NOT MEAN everyone SHOULD use them⚠️ . your inpatient sounds sort of similar to my res facility. they were way more lenient than inpatient. inpatient was like prison to me, really. i was in my deathbed at inpatient. genuinely, i was given weeks to live and told they were doing everything they could to lengthen my life. i had no psychological at inpatient. i was told they couldn’t find a psychologist comfortable taking my case because it was so severe they didn’t think there was anything they could do to help my mental health. i was on bed rest the whole time. i was told i was so weak and immunocompromised i could not interact with any of the other patients. i was isolated in my hospital room. i ate every single thing completely alone because it was strictly forbidden to have anyone in there. no visitors and no nurses cus they were worried the nurses might pass an infection to me. so i was monitored by a robot that said absolutely nothing at all, just observed. that was insanely lonely. the only visitor allowed was my dad if he passed a covid test, had no signs of illness, and we both wore masks. everyone had to wear a mask around me. i also was observed during every bathroom trip, including showering. that was humiliating having a stranger see me naked, but i guess i get why they did it. i was told i was such a serious fall risk it would be negligent not to monitor me on the toilet or in the shower because if i did fall and injure myself, it could be deadly. inpatient was miserable, exhausting, and isolating. if i ever go inpatient again, i hope it is much better than that. even just incorporating psychological support would’ve helped so much. i don’t understand why it was okay for them not to give even a tin bit of psychological support to a teenager (not even 18 yet) who was just told they have only a few weeks to live. it’s not like i was in a coma or something i was conscious every day and could’ve used the support. now i’m three years past my life expectancy back then but i’m still ill and all of that was pretty traumatic. i don’t know if my case was just unusual or if that was the typical inpatient experience for people. from what i’ve heard, most at least get psychological support and can interact with other patients even if they’re in a wheelchair and closely monitored.

    I was inpatient in the 1986 n they gave me gastroenteritis with a rice meal . I was sick n diarrhoea for 4 days , they ignored me , crying in pain n illness and said ' I was doin it myself ' ! I would neva go inpatient again , even tho things are mayb not so ignorant n cruel ? Gives you cptsd aswell . I was 18 , and I will neva forget their cruelty , verbal abuse . An exposure revealed the psychiatric team in that area were sexually abusing patients and it went to court when these brave women broke the stigma and spoke about the abuse they experienced in Bootham Park and Clifton hospital in York and other areas . There was abuse goin back years . Dr kerr who admitted me was ' too ill ' with cancer to stand trial , there was a psychiatrist Dr haslem also . Mayb Google it ? One female nurse was kind to me , the rest were white , arrogant males , even the cleaners seemed to b hostile . The worst time of my life . I have lived with anorexia , bulimia eva since but would neva go ' inpatient ' , just remain ' v low bmi ' n live my life with anorexia , balancing act . I understand how traumatic reliving this in words is , bless you , thankyou x ❤

    Oh I so hear you on the short stay just to save life. I had 3.5 week stint and I had to beg for the last half week. I would have died without it but it didn’t do anything really, except for making two awesome friends who I am super close with almost 6 years on. I also managed secret exercise, just pacing back and fourth in my room when I was allowed there. My inpatient nurses were great, but they weren’t specifically ED nurses, the ED team itself was horrible.

    I'm sad this doesn't have more views! You seem like a lovely person, your video popped up in my recommended and thought I'd give it a watch. You've obviously been through a lot and you're very strong for overcoming those challenges. It absolutely sucks that even now in 2024 mental health services in the UK are just sooo lacking. I'm disabled since 2017, and also have mental health issues, and since becoming disabled it's so eye-opening how the world just is not at all made for people like me, and having to fight for accessibility, and some of the things that are accessible just aren't good enough, a lot of places for example that have accessible toilets etc, you can just tell it was designed and created by people who have absolutely no clue what it's like to be disabled, doing stupid things like putting a table and chairs (in a restaurant) in front of the wheelchair lift! Like, the lack of simple common sense is really quite worrying at times! Anyway, I've subbed to you now! And gonna check out some of your other videos! Also, I live in Salisbury, which I don't think is too far from chalk hill... Could be wrong, but it sounds familiar lol. Sending love n hugs xx

    YES it was thought that everything at home hospital that I had any opinion etc about was ED based. And the dietitians constantly lied to me…and then the group programming had a group called Feedback group which was literally a privacy violation. I would never ever ever go into the home hospital group programming ever ever again if that group is still part of it.

    You are lucky to have even had any choices. My second time, which involved a feeding tube, I didn’t even get to choose snacks. Let alone having any dislikes allowed…and they forced me to eat meat when I had been a happy vegetarian for years. It was absolutely soul crushing and I still have trauma going on 6 years from then.

    I was inpatient twice at a local hospital general psychiatric ward that had a max of 4 ED beds at any time. It was absolutely awful. I wish I had never agreed to be referred. Anyways. I had to basically fail the home hospital program to be referred and get funding for a program that DID help, which was residential in the neighbouring province. It was a world of difference.

  • @samyanelrod

    I was inpatient in a general paediatric ward. My treatment team completely ignored my input and didn't allow me any information. When I was released, there was only 1 outpatient service which was FBT. That program was incredibly damaging to me yet was pushed by the hospital. I had an awful time

    • @MusikGirl23
      @MusikGirl23 10 месяцев назад

      The whole FBT program that is pushed is one reason I am SO glad I actually didn’t receive help until I was an adult…because having my parents control things when a big reason I had the eating disorder was due to my mom’s out of control control…would have probably killed me, literally.

    I have several very dangerous food allergies and a condition that causes lots of nausea issues. When I was in treatment the dietitian tried to make me frisky certain supplement. I told her I was feeling really nauseous and off and needed something else. They also hadn’t given me my seizure medications. I told her I feel off I’m not okay I can’t do this. I proceeded to have a seizure a few minutes later and then vomited everything at the dietitians feet. It terrified the dietitian and staff and they took everything seriously from then On-The-Go didn’t believe me before that and told me they were positive it wasn’t not being given medication it was “ a combination of trying to not follow the rules and low blood sugar”. My dad took me out of that treatment center the next day and had some harsh words with them that permanently made a lasting impression on them

    Also, we have to be aware and ask ourselves, “am I running from feelings? Can I sit with my feelings?” please remember that our brains can not access the intellectual benefits of treatment until it has fuel to function. The malnourishment of anorexia damages the brain as it metabolizes itself to execute executive functions. (Headaches are a symptom of this.) Our ability to process information becomes impaired. This is why nutritional rehabilitation is the primary focus of treatment for some time. Good luck and I hope that we can have an open dialog.

    Hi beautiful lady, I feel like your intro can be triggering...completely focused on your thin, tone and athletic body. I'm not saying it isn't beautiful, but our constant focus on perfecting our exterior is not healthy for culture as a whole. I don't. Exercise is the problem, it is the focus on changing the form, not the strength or health of our bodies. Only you know your motives. You need to be honest with yourself.

    • @charlottestuart291
      @charlottestuart291 3 года назад

      Hello lovely! Thank you for taking the time to message. I'm hoping as I get more comfortable in front of the camera my explanations will become a bit better so I apologise if I am not as clear as I can be! This is one of the key factors that I am trying to both address and change on a universal basis. One of my main goals is to enhance the awareness of what both previous and current research has investigated in regards to anorexia, including the neurological relationship and what treatment plans are of most effect and what could be more advantageous. It is a very controversial topic and I fully respect peoples opinions on this. In regards to exercise in anorexia, I am not taking a sided approach with this, I do however feel strongly about addressing this issue particularly, as you have also expressed, that it is a problem absolutely amongst many sufferers and this is by no means a promotion of its utilization when we are not at the right stage to do so. There is however yet to be a solidified concept on the role exercise and the education in this area plays in treatment, but my intention regardless is not to promote the aesthetic changes, but rather the psychological benefits that could potentially be gained and whether they can or not my goal is to make that more clear. If anything, this is about bringing forward and discussing the previous and current scientifically based research that we have, and converting that into the most beneficial treatment for sufferers. I completely agree that nutritional improvements are most definitely important and absolutely necessary, but I do believe that neglect in other areas in treatment which may further contribute to cognitive function improvements, can be a hindrance to the longevity of recovery, health and treatment effect. As I briefly mention this is only a PART of the problem and my only intention is to explore what we have, discuss it and positively grow from it. Hopefully this will become a lot more clearer the more videos I do. I will be learning and growing along the wat also and this is why questions/ comments like yours are really constructive and important so I really do appreciate you taking the time to both watch and discuss your thoughts with me! An open dialog is all I ask for! I hope this has given a bit more perspective to where my intentions are.
