I think people who say it's always been this way are making false equivalencies. No one is saying that Tekken never had fantastical elements. But even those fantastical elements were relatively restrained. Yes you had Devil Kazuya and Devil Jin. But the MAJORITY of what you were up against vs them was standard Mishima fare with a few fantastical sprinkles on top. That is not the same as Noctis or Clive where their entire kit is fantasy. It's not even close to being on the same level.

You know there used to be this other Bandai game made by the Tekken director where Clive would have fit in great, but we're never getting another one so I guess we'll have to promote one of the blandest FFs in Tekken instead and let that mystery game series remain dead and forgotten.

The problem is the overtuning in 1 move, just remove the heat engage on Prominence Miguel is a simple Brawler, no martial arts so....

its like you people forget that True Ogre exist also Kuma, Alissa, Yoshimitsu, Devils jin/kazuya etc

...the game has a bear with lighting powers, and big buff robots. clive fits just fine as a dlc guest character

I like to put it like this. If you are looking for a fighting game that is based on realistic martial arts and has a more grounded atmosphere with absolutely ZERO flashy, anime like, over-the-top characters, then here are your options: Virtua Fighter, or literally ANY UFC game. Tekken may have had that feeling when it first started, but it clearly went more balls to the wall insane as the years went on. I mean this series has characters like Kuma, Panda, Roger and Alex. Literal animals, one of which doesn’t even exist anymore, and fight like humans do. Oh yeah and Alissa is a character that exists as well. And I’d argue she’s even MORE out of place cause she looks like a Blazblue character with her design and what she can do.

I started at tekken 8, and yes I do think they've made the animations over the top. Especially "ultimate" devil kazuya, angel jin, Clive. I HATE watching long cutscenes.I personally dont find victor's animations that bad though

Yeah i agree with your opinion, Tekken was never a pure realistic martial arts fighting game. But now is just too much, Clive made me stop playing my favorite franchise ever. I'm just looking at virtua fighter now. Don't think i will come back to Tekken one day.

What makes me Laugh is the Puriest complain about Characters like Zafina and Alisa not having Martial Art Moves ....... WHEN ..... they rave about the Wavedash and Korean Backdash Cancels that both make the Character look like they are having a Seizure ..... rather than moving swifty and naturally. As also an old head ..... that played Tekken 1 ....... to me its the "Screen Noise" Characters like Victor that spoil it rather than Anime proplems. I'm a fairweather FF fan ( FFX was my fav Game - played it to death in my 20's on the Playstation then replayed the game in my 40's on PC Its funny that I hated FFXV but I liked Noctis in Tekken 7 as his weapons were nice and subtle visually. Wereas I'm really enjoying FFXVI (Shocker it went on sale on CD keys and Steam a few days after Clives in Tekken) But Clive has Too much "Screen Noise" for my Liking in Tekken 8...... They insisted on Cramming all his summons into normal moves rather than just saving them for his Heat Smashes. He could have had multple Smashes one for each Eikon.

Here's the thing, Nagoshi is no longer in Sega let alone RGG studio for a long time, he has no control over any RGG property, AND he gave a green light to Project X Zone to use Kiryu, it's possible if they actually want Kiryu in Tekken. there will be no way Legacy character would be given the biggest stage of gaming commercial, it's gonna be a guest character, VF character also highly unlikely since they wouldn't bring that much attention to T8 in terms of commercially.

I think the balance is screwed up in this game, the mechanics straight from Street Fighter, the plot is terrible, Heihachi's DLC was completely hidious on par with M1K, but still for me I think this is one of the contendants for GOTY now Tifa matches the world and her style is interesting for a fighting game, way more than Noctis was, and Kyriu same as Baki and Ohma are always more than welcome expected.

Bought two Ultimate editions and we're being nickel and dimed for stages now? I rarely play but it's sad they went this route considering your paying for previous characters in you season pass.

Just call a spade a spade, games as a live service nickle and dime you for everything. Not a surprise if you've played games with this business model before. Look at Cod, new guns are locked behind the battle pass, or you can cough up 20 bucks and buy it right now. Tekken 8 is gonna have a hard time with this without upsetting the fans. Solution might be to bundle Characters and stages and as for the character pass, add the price of the stages and Characters to be released.

Why are we calling things "free" when we literally just paid full price 8 months ago? Some paid extra for season passes and Battle passes but were using the word free here? Come on. If you give em an inch they'll take a mile.

The negative reviews are justified. haradas monetization tactics was very underhanded and lacks the honor of japanese culture. hiding its monetization strategy pre-release (they knew if they were honest people wouldnt have bought tekken 8 at all), having a in-game shop, battlepass and ultimate edition and season (character) pass is just greedy in a full-box price game. this is predatory gacha monetization tactics in a 69.99 game. in what world is this ok? plus harada took down his apology. scumbag tactics! Harada is purposely going against precedents in gaming culture just become a mmo that bandai namco was trying to put out blue protocol bombed hard in japan. its scummy. i have no respect for him or bandai. they both suck.

In before I get a copy of Tekken 7 on sale and I see Heihatchi and all of his Reina moves and after Tekken 8 being my first Tekken. I'm like ah look there is the "Bald Reina" again for the promo "Bald Reina" strikes again. Oh look I just realized we have "Bald Reina as DLC for this Autumn. Hilarious considering Reina was the first character I played a lot of.

Honestly if he was only on the roster but not i the story then that would be fine. He could have been like kazumi and be a flashback only character and maybe dinal boss of the story mode. He was completely non canon in tekken 5 and that was okay. Is it me or doe he look younger in the trailer? Not young but his haur isn't white like 4-7, or a light grey like in 3. But he is still bald but his hair is darker. You don't assume his lava bath restored him to his tekken 2 age range?

I'm starting to get a feeling tekken ball players are secret whales of tekken, and if bamco release BP solely with tekken ball items it will be their best selling pass yet. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to put all those tekken balls in battle pass

The battle pass is fine , you can earn the coins back so you only pay once for every battle pass that comes out
