B1.31 - BMW E24 Project [Update time]
So in this episode we are giving an update of the project. From suspension till the wiring and layout in the cabin.
BMW E24 - 633CSI from 1978 Project:
N55 engine with BMW F20 135i wiring loom to make the car up to date.
When it comes to the electrical system I'm planning on making it a "modern car";
- Added parking sensors
- Adding reverse camera
- Adding prof audio system
- N55 drive train with ZF8HP
- Upgrading the AC system
- F20 body and other controls
The car will be a project when it's finished I will be enjoy driving it in the weekends and during road trips.

So in this episode we are reinstalling the engine with all the wiring attached and the modules connected. This way we can see if all the wiring and modules are at least satisfied for turning over the engine. Next steps would be focus on the fuel supply towards the engine. In this episode work continues on the front subframe. The engine arrived and had to install N54 engine brackets to clear the steering rack input shaft. This also makes it easier to mount it to the E46 subframe with the originale bushings. As the project is taking some turns it's hard to create content that is nice to watch. I enjoy your content. I have owned a 1985 M635csi I imported to USA when new. I used for many years as my daily driver. Now due to age, restoration of certain things is required and your videos are helpful.

Could you enlighten what offset the holes in the big Are? E34 vs e28? 25mm either way?
I think old Honda pickup tricks used similar motor different head but early rangerover motors were identical as I bought some for same reasons as you
Wow this is next level engineering 😄. Have you also considered using the E28 front subframe with E34 shocktowers? Read somewhere that should also fit the E12 type chassis with some modification.

Aaah sorry no I don't have that. Maybe have a look into other E24 removal projects as the 2nd and 3rd gen share the same chassis and design might be the same.

Hi, I don't think it could unless you want to cut away parts of the carpet. So I would to recommend that.

Hi, these are replica from E46 CLS wheels. 19" but I want to get 18" and different design. Just had these still laying around.

Hi Shark E24, the big benefit is the diff options and strength as of different way of mounting the subframe. Also now I have bigger wheel hubs and brake options and bit more modern ABS systems to convert into F serie canbus.
Was wondering what you did with the diff mount. Is this still the original E12 type? Which is known to sometimes tear out on high horsepower builds. Looked like there's a plate on it but the camera passed it too fast for me to clearly see it 😅. Thx.

They fit up pretty well. Should have maybe not cut it untill the "line" of the side of the car but let's say we all learn.
hi, I'm also restoring my E24 right now. Can you tell me where you take new seals between the chassis and the back lights? BMW has no parts left..and also the aluminium edging on the rain-trim?
Hi David, yes I notice that as well. Will be a (another) challenge to make those but we will manage. Else scrap parts it will be.. if those are still around.
This is a Series 1 car on the E12 platform . Harder to get parts than the Series 2 E24 version.
Yes indeed. so I am happy I got a lot of spares with the car and now converting a lot of the things to modern platform (E34,E34 and F20)

cool videos... I am considering an engine replacement in my E24 and was wondering if you think it is possible to remove the engine from the top instead of dropping it out.
It is, but you better have a good engine crane. If you are planning to do engine repairs, I'd start by removing cylinder head while it's still in car - it'll be easier to remove.

Jep, unfortunately that happened. Luckly I am going for a new design. First the F2x cluster and later maybe redesigned E24 cluster👍🏻

There is a mistake on this video as the bolts holding the seat frame to the floor are 13 mm and the bolts holding the seat to the rails are 10 mm NOT the other way round as in this video
