BONUS video - Deep dive into why I chose a Maserati Quattroporte and a Subaru Twin
Do you know where the tcu is for a gran turismo?
It is most likely in the same spot as the Quattroporte, which is by the battery in the trunk on the right side.
So why did you go with the Maserati trans instead of a manual?
So, the Maserati transmission is actually a manual transmission. It has a computer controlled hydraulic actuator on it that does all of the gear shifting. You could remove that assembly and bolt on a Ferrari manual assembly and it would work correctly and without issue.
what's the update like for the shifter assembly? also when can we expect the next update?
Sorry, my full time job has been keeping me busy. I'm working on mounting the transaxle as I type this. I'm hoping to have a few things on here before too long.
Great video. I wanted to ask you, are these actuators the same for the Ferrari 430/575 , Maserati and 04-08 Gallardo?
I believe that they are the same units. I haven't had them in my hands personally to verify.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit confirmed they are all the same. Anyway, my gallardo actuator is leaking fluid. I need new seals on the upper part if i'm not mistaken. Do you repair them? I can send it to you if so. I am in NYC. (GTE Engineering does "rebuilds" on these but they want you to yank out the entire egear system out and send it to them.. pump, solenoids, accumulator and so on.. I'm not doing that, I can physically see the leak on mine. It's minor but it randomly gives me egear errors) Let me know if possible.
@@NycForgiato Send me a message on insta and we can chat. @hobbling_nurse85
i just only skimmed this video, but i need to restart the start, there's good information about this build that's nerdy and exciting.
Hello,I have the same car in my workshop and I want to change theorings from all the valves and cilinder shift. Do you know if it exists a repari kit for this? Also i need to change the pressure tank from gearbox . Thank you. You make a great job.
Thanks for the kind words. I am not aware of anyone who sells a kit, I know of a few places that will rebuild the system, but only if the valve body and actuator are still in good inspection condition.
Man , it would be great if you put some other videos about welding and using a grinder and link to your tools, it will help you with the channel as you already show your skills and talent.
David, thanks very much for the kind words. This may be something I do in the future, but I am hardly an expert on those things and I am worried I would do more harm than good. Just for y own curiousity, what are some of the tools you would like covered?
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit well, all of them,>( sometimes is good to know how to use cutting discs, like push while cutting? or let it cut by itself and you just guide the tool? , how about the temperature, when to stop, same for the driller , maybe just commenting those things on the go is enough....sometimes just to name the tool and a couple of characteristics like power etc... like that cool mini band grinder...don't know how is it called but I saw this tool being used a lot by this jpanesse guy who custom modifies porsches 911's at customers home. Also , talk about choices, what other gearboxes choices you had? I mean, what to look in a gearbox when looking after one, I heard that torque kill gB. not hp. those things are very interesting :) (excuse my english please, regards from Uruguay)
Awesome work awesome tools awesome project getting done.
I've always dreamed with fitting this massi V8 in my Alfa Romeo, indeed my car was going to fit the v8 longitudenally, I've never knew what gearbox was going to married this engine in that position but....still, they leave the chassis reinforced for that engine that was never installed. So I hope, one day, to finally acomplished that.
thank your for this post and the whole serie , incredible job
I want to do THIS with my Alfa Romeo 159 , use that very same Maserati v8/transmission on my car, it would be perfect.
Awesome work, what engine management system are you planning to use for this? Is there a plug and play system that will retain factory gauge/ac functionality?
My initial plan is to use the factory Bosch ECU and some trickery, but there are quite a few off the shelf stand alone that can power the engine, and retain factory gauges, etc.
Is the plan to make a manual shifter yourself or use an existing shifter that works with the M139 transmission?
Honestly, it is going to be a bit of a combination of it all. I have a friend who has been designing and developing a shifter that we are going to try. I will still need to modify it a fair amount, but it *should* work.
After watching your videos, I wonder if you'd consider doing a cool project albeit not quite as extreme as this one. I have a very rare, second to last month production, magic violet (produced only one year ) BMW Z1 with just 3k miles on it. I want to install an S58 or B58 engine and have located stand alone management systems for both motors. Original motor in the Z1 is a straight six and these motors are also straight sixes. Would like to chat with you further about the project if you don't mind.
Sounds interesting for sure. Hit me up on Instagram @hobbling_nurse85
How is your manual shifter element coming along?
Very slow! I am waiting on the machine shop to get my transaxle back for the end shafts of the torque tube propeller shaft I designed. Once that's done I can get the transaxle mounted into the car and finish up the shift linkage, I hope to have that in work by June.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit Thank you! Can't wait to see your next episode!
HOW MANY HOURS OF WORK TO REMOVE AND INSTALL THE TRANSMISSION?
It's a pretty involved job, probably in the neighborhood of 12-14 hours?
How did you convert the transaxle to manual shift? Is there a video on the manual shift conversion aspect of this project?
I'm actually in the process of building what I need to make this converted to a manual setup. It's in the final stages of manufacturing right now. I hope to have something up soon. It's VERY cool.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit Is there a way to get in contact with you directly? I'm looking to do a manual conversion using the same transaxle but fit to a car from the factory.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit any updates on that? Very cool dude
I am thinking about something similiar, but with mazda Rx-8 shell with tube frame. I would call it Mazerati 😆
Love it! Great progress, man! Keep it up. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Thanks. Next major hurdle is the transmission!!
Doing a 2.0 ecoboost sawp on a 2013 BRZ, same color as yours.
Dude, the 2.0 Ecoboost can be a MONSTER for its size. I daily an F150 Ecoboost and I wouldn't have anything else!
May u succeed in figuring out how to get this to function as a traditional 3 pedal manual, as how this should have left the factory...
Thanks, I have a few parts waiting to be finished up, but I do believe I have a solid solution. Not without the help of the community, of course.
Strong work, great narrative and enjoyed the new tunes 👍🏼
I loved how you “doctored” that wrench to make it work 😂. Hey, are you worried about the brake booster in the way?
How to you plan on running the engine?? Are you going to make your own stand alone harness?? Or do you plan on going aftermarket ecu and harness??
I have a pretty nifty trick up my sleeve if it works. Just need to make a few more phone calls ;).
@intensivecarunit3833 deffinitely interested in what you have cooking up. I'm looking to do a f136 swap in my 83 ltd, but my hang up is the engine management system. I'll be keeping an eye out on your channel.
amazing work my friend! this build is beyond the most challenging I have ever seen on the GT86 platform.... fits so well too... keep up the great work
👍
It takes a special kind of Italian Engineer to come up with a way to capture the bolts from both parts that overlap simultaneous. I hope that guy won an award.
It really is impressive in the most ignorant possible design. I've seen some dumb things, but this was one of those "... Huh?" Moments like never before
Awesome progress man! Already looking forward to the next one!
I like your project I am.also doing a Maserati V8 swap in a car. My advise the engine should go further to the back which is possible by using a smaller diameter Brake booster or lowering the engine further For good performance younwant to have the engine as far back and low as possible otherwise it will drive like a truck.
Hi, my Quatroporte (2005) for some reason is running very hi on engine revolution. I'm talking about almost 3k rev at only 50 mph on the 6 gear. I've seen on youtuve videos that other Maserati don't even reach 1,900 rev at 55mph on 6 gear but my car every single gear is very hi on revolution, feels like every gear reach hi rev with little gas and the transmissions its not slipping or showing any trouble signs. I just bought the car and don't have any previous experience with Maserati. I can't drive over 50mph because the engine is too high on revolutions!!! Any help will be appreciated.
This sounds like a slipping clutch to me. I know you say the transmission isn't slipping, but these cars operate as a conventional manual, that is controlled by hydraulics and computers. Not from the conventional automatic which is controlled by a valve body and multiple wet clutches. Outside of scanning the codes or knowing what clutch wear is at, I can merely only speculate what could be going on.
Hey buddy! I want to put the Mas transaxle in my 91 Maserati 224 2.8 liter. Maybe its more compatible and bolt in??? What about electronics for launch control and maybe to keep F1 shifter in my 224 which is not ABS car and has old Marelli ECUs (twins 3 cyl each, similar to F40) that I modified to 1.5 bar boost 400hp+. How is F1 usable in swap?
I'm not keeping the F1 controller do to size and complexity. The TCU of this system talked with a lot of other systems, ECU, ABS controller, TCU, BCM, and many other things. There are better options, $$$$$, out there that would give you paddle shifting without the headache of dealing with all of the nodes interacting properly.
Love your creativity in making automobile furniture!
hi , I appreciate the bonus Video , I have a question dou you have the complete video when you remove the gear box , transmission ; clutch , Maserati F1 ? thank and great job
Sadly, I do not have one as an instructional set. The job wasn't terrible, but I have done a fair amount of really hard jobs working on cars.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit ok thank 👍
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit Hi can you tell me if I need to drain the gearbox to get it out? I dismantled the front and rear of the transmission tube on the clutch side and the gearbox side, the two axle shafts (wheel) the gearbox and the transmission tube are lowered to about 30 degrees but I have difficulty getting the gearbox out, it turns left and right easily but when pulling it doesn't come out, in my vidéo , the first and second , is your , and two second picture it's my car , could you tell me your opinion, thank you very much,
You do not need to drain the gearbox to remove it. The transaxle itself weighs around 170lbs with all of the actuators, shift selector, etc. you absolutely need to support it with a floor jack, then you will need to separate the transaxle case from the torque tube.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit ok thank 👍 I make a video tonight for tanks 🙏🏼
Looks good & comfy man! Good job!
Ive been biewing your process and find your project quite interesting. What i don't understand is why you put so much time learning about how the actuater works rather than focus on fabracting a manual shifter? Still, it was interesting. I'm zipping through the rest of the videos.
Really good question. The main purpose is to understand the engineering behind it, so I can add to my bank of knowledge. You never know when you might need that process theory or the mechanical idea. It could create another idea you wouldn't have otherwise had to problem solve a current issue!
Hello, would it be possible to get a couple of those 3D printed torque tube flanges you designed?

very impressive amazing work
Thanks! There is a LOT more to come in the upcoming weeks!
Just stumbled across your build and I'm intrigued! I'm also thinking about an F136 for a project. If you're getting rid of the F1 shifting system, what's your plan for engine management? I'm guessing that the engine won't run if it id missing that system....
The F136 is a pretty stout engine, and the price on them is really nice considering the current prices. The F1 system is long gone, and I have an *idea* on an engine management system the should work. But I won't know until I try.
Keep in mind these transmissions were also manuals - so could be converted to manual too. F136 is an awesome engine indeed
That's currently *one* of my works in progress. I have a few angles of attack I am working on to make this happen, but I have a long way to go before I tackle that part of the build.
What's this guy trying to do and does he know what he's doing? I own a Maserati. The torque tube is also a STRUCTURAL part of the drivetrain. There are two regular engine mounts and the third mount (normally the transmission mount) in a Maserati is behind the transmission at the rear of the car. I don't know how a Corvette works but the torque tube he shows with the flex and U joints will not work in a Maserati. In a Maserati the engine, torque tube and transmission are one rigid assembly.
I dont know how either works, but thanks to your comment, Im extra curious to see how it will work out!!
@@chanesthesia I suspect he'll take the car apart, get lots of views and then will do nothing.
@@tonyhladun9081 A few weeks ago, He has started tackling the torque tube…I think it is episode 15 or 16. What are your thoughts on the fabrication approach on those episodes? I do not know enough about fabricating on CAD and then turning around to do 3D prints for testing components before making the final products. But I find it aww inspiring to see someone creating a race car before my eyes. Always like to hear and see different perspectives! Thanks 👍🏼

Making good progress man!
hi , at 1:11 for remove the torque tube you removed the Gearbox ? thank if yes ; how do you remove the gearbox , 👍
I did remove the gearbox separately. You will want to remove the rear exhaust, disconnect the axle shafts from the transmission, disconnect your electrical connectors, then disconnect the lower transmission support, and you will then be able to lower the transmission to reach the top bolts of the torque tube. Disconnect the nuts from the torque tube, and the transmission should come out.
@@TheIntensiveCarUnit thank 👍
