Massive Whistles, Gongs and Ship Horns at Night Horn Honk
Просмотров 1 тыс.14 дней назад
Had the opportunity to bring some of my more air hungry whistles/horns out too a remote location and let them rip in the middle of the night! We are on top of a hill in a large gorge and the echos are great. Unfortunately it’s really hard to capture the true power of these horns/whistles on a camera and the echos in person are very intense. We have a total of 1160 Gallons with 2 industrial comp...

Here’s a pretty fresh non raised letter Nathan K5H. This horns number 5 bell has been machined back to factory specs and is nice and sharp. A lot of times bells will leave the factory out of tune and flat. The K5H consists of bells 1,2,3,4,5. #trainhorn #k5h #airchime

Here’s a pretty rare bird! This is a very early Canadian Sand cast Airchime K3H. This horn dates to the early 60s which is very early for this style horn. Currently the number 1 bell has a slight warble still but is much better compared to when I first got it.

Paducah & Louisville K5LA Nathan Airchime Train Horn

This is a pretty curious K5LA. It took me a while to figure out its heritage. At first I as well as some others thought it was either GO transit or Reeding & Northern but after some more digging Iv concluded it to be Paducah & Louisville. This does make sense as it originated from the Northern part of Louisville KY. This K5LA is what I call a transition era Horn. it has 80s raised a bubble bel...
Union Pacific K5LLA Train Horn Nathan Airchime
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 месяца назад
Here’s another very cool UP K5LLA. This is a different K5LLA than my other one that’s already on the channel. I ran that one with the 1L reversed. This one is running all bells forward. Like the other horn this one has the same wear patterns on the bells from the bonnets deteriorating and rubbing overtime. A very unique look I might add. #k5lla #unionpacific #unionpacificrailroad

This IS the best sounding Big Bore K5LA Iv ever heard. Each bell on this Horn has been handpicked for the perfect blend of musical goodness haha. This is a Big Bore K5LA. As stated above, this is a parts build. It has been pieced together to attempt to create a perfect sounding big bore K5LA. The number 5 bell plays very sharp and is very dominant, but not overpowering. Generally the number 5 a...

Here’s a brand new 2023 commuter/transit style K5LA Train Horn. Bells 1,2,3a,4a,5. This style K5 might be seen on commuter lines like MBTA, Amtrak, GO transit ect… this horn is equipped with CDFs (conical debris filters) these help keep debris and light snow out of the horn. However, in the winter heavy snow, can clog these fairly quick. Horn is a late 2023 model is among the newest Nathan Airc...

The largest locomotive Train Horn show / honk in America!! 2024s honk had some pretty nice pieces from KM ship horns too a very rare H5 and S3J. This year we had around 170 horns show up. While it wasn’t the biggest year by volume this year definitely had some of the rarest examples show up. We also have the addition of a much needed air reservoir upgrade. A 600 gallon tank was donated by a ver...

that k3 hybrid sounds like a p3 almost
Great sounding K5HL 1G. Most locos here run these with just the #2 forward (along with the other K5HL generations) and the 1G actually sounds pretty good that way. The raised-letter doesn't sound great coming at you with that configuration for some reason, but sounds heavenly from a distance when moving away and is my favorite Nathan horn.
Sensational, my dream is that the ES44ACi made here in Brazil had this horn.
Man my neighbors are gonna hate me when I get one of those lol
I can see how you got this as the railroad is starting to fall apart awesome video
I have always wanted to have a horn of my own but don’t know how to
Right now the 25th anniversary duo (1986 & 2021) is parked near my house and when they start sorting out rail cars at like 6 in the morning that K5LA is beautiful 😸
You’ve gotta love those 1st gen K5HL’s that nostalgic tone just gives it the shear power😺
the best thing about ferromex es44ac's is that almost all of them you see has a first and second generation k5hl!
Cool!
that's the mexico spirit baybeeeeee! 🇲🇽
You called someone racist for not liking ferromex me personally I don’t like via rail how does that feel huh?!
did you actually expect me to get offended lmao
@@epa_42a No I just expected more from you.
@@epa_42a and your kinda spoiled
Excellent horn, I don't want to cause intrigue. But how do you get the FXE horns? I ask because I'm from Mexico and it's very difficult to get them legally here.
This one came from another private collector so I’m unsure but It has a couple replacement diaphragms. I imagine it wasn’t working properly when in service and was swapped out with a new horn.
Beautiful
3:56 with the hawk is the coolest frame ever!
These early ones with most if not all the bells facing forward sound fantastic. I just don’t like how today’s ones usually sound on GEVOs. Both them and GEVOs are EVERYWHERE.
This thing sounds sooooo much better with all the big bells facing forward vs running them reverse like they do on the actual locomotives.
it was nice when they used the forward facing bells. i wish they would have stayed this way. The newer sound of the k5HLs is just not as great.
@@devernepersonal3636 i agree.
Awesome!
Great sounding horn early HL! Always love forward facing K5HLs too.
The K5HL horns are amazing, but this particular one is my favorite
Nice video
Sounds really good, I love the echo
Winnipeg jets goal horn
I really like this thing. It doesn’t have that beastly bark of an M5 although it sings the same song, but it has that that sort of more mellow toned vibrato of a K5LA if you listen closely enough. Definitely an interesting and fantastic horn.
The siren is a Federal sign and signal or federal signal model 5 signal tone There is a dual tone version. which is 9/12 port, single tone is 12 port The model type for both is Model 5 or Model 5T.
Hey Dillon, do you sandblast your horns before repainting? If so, I'm wondering what your sandblasting setup is since I'm looking to get started with that at home. I've got some older clunky horns and general metal items that need a good clean yet I'm not trying to scrub or buff the oxidation and grime. Also, a general shop tour would be cool if you haven't made one already. I'm sure lots of folks would like to see the behind-the-scenes of where the magic happens. Cheers.
Dylan, great video as always! What range are new cast tags in? Any idea what year a 19xxx tag would be? Thanks!
Thanks man. 19k would be late 1998 early 1999
Awesome, have inherited a round base Nathan M3R1 from my father worked at GT now CN. Any idea how many PSI and how much air I need to get this running ? Just refurbished and coated, also any clue where to find year of manufacture or info off of the serials on the bells ? Thanks again

I personally think the B5 sounds like a 7 Chime K horn
So beautiful bro
one of the biggest misconceptions in hockey has to be that the capitals use a t3, they use a q3
I'm glad you share all this cool stuff with us
Hearing the F3 brought music to my ears 👌 Nashville predators goal horn
Yea I love that one too
G'day mate recently just pulled off the p5 from my ute and apart and they don't sound the same anymore nothing wrong with the internals how tight do the screws need to be to get that beautiful sound back cheers
The 1903 Sinker&Davis Whistle is my favorite cuz my hometown paper mill used it every day until she shut down last year
That thing has sooooo much power
Lol the yacht horn is a 7 chord
Those quiet zones ain't safe anymore
You guys sure know how to have fun wish I could have been there.
My favorite airchime configuration is a km200 km165 and a km135
That's music sound to my ears 😮😮 wooow the echos
My goodness. The sustain on those echoes is insane! As always, those Sinker Davis gongs have such an amazing and powerful sound, and I always love a branch whistle.
Yea that Gong is something else. Such an Erie sound. Super cool to hear in person.
My goodness, the echoes give me chills but it's satisfying at the same time!
Awesome video. the echoes were staggering. Also that MKT 230/75 is the big horn you'd hear on the James R. Barker and the QE2. That siren is more likely to be a Federal Model 7 then an STH-10. Kinda wish you kept the video a little bit longer during the steam siren part that siren was making some echoe's you'd hear in a horror movie.
Gotcha and yea I agree. That thing was killer. We played with it quite a bit but developed a big leak at the flange mount and the leaking air sound killed my audio. I can only imagine what that sounded like a mile away. We did have 4 sheriffs show up due too multiple calls. We were out there till 3am honking lol. They were cool though and ended up hanging with us for an hour or so thinking various whistles/horns. They didn’t care. Said they had calls as far out as 7miles away.
39:37 RS3L 41:53 K5LA are my favorites in this video.
That almost sounds like titanic’s whistle on air but high pressured 1:24
Yea I can see that. That thing is a beast. Unfortunately this video really doesn’t portray the power of these whistles actually have.
It looks like the Titanic’s whistle.
It's probably a very similar model if not identical to Titanic's. It looks the same and sounds very similar to recordings of Mauretania's whistle, which was the same as Titanic's
im gonna guess that the siren is a Federal Signal STH-10
Yea I think that’s right.
Federal Model 7.
@@supertyfon1736 model 7 was 10hp?
@@peanutmwo6001 7.5 hp.
