Authentic Calypso
Дания
Добавлен 2 окт 2011
I compose the music and lyrics to all the songs on my channel. The music is based on calypso rhythms from Trinidad and Tobago using traditional instruments like the pan/steelpan, djembe and tassa drums, plus an array of other percussion instruments. The lyrics are rooted in the original artform of calypso - social commentary and storytelling about important historic and current events.

Great Speech. Our biggest problem in Africa is that we are mentally controlled. As a result we have developed a dependent mentality. It's only in Africa where foreigners live a better lifestyle than the indigenous people. Time for change is now. We change and liberate and rediscover our African traditional leadership structures and education systems and structures. Religion in its various forms either Islam or Christianity and its myriad denominations must be replaced with African spirituality, beliefs and practices. We must go back to our DNA languages and names. We must rediscover our African technology, the knowledge that has always been with us. It's time we developed our African medicines. We have all the plants that all the medicine in the world is sourced. We must develop and renew our African mass media, we must support the African film industry. We should develop our foods and the traditional methods of agriculture and storage cultures. Growing children must be brought up in their age groups and the learning, respect, and responsibility that accompanies it. We must re-learn and develop the sixth to tenth sense that made our Ancestors to see 1000 years ahead and many more.
Well said.
The British government were always Criminals, and thieves. That’s how they build their empire. This is for the people who believe that their is a G-d, they, the British government and all Governments that practice Genocide will be in the worst part of HELL. They are still practicing evil that EVIL today, they never stop.
Thanks for your comment. I totally agree. That is why it is important that the people who were victims of British colonial rule need to know about events like the Hosay massacre. Keep the spirit and have a pleasant day.

Thank you, Mr. Rampersad and all who assisted in making this presentation. It is inspiring and enlightening to know the history and see the move forward since that time which made this day possible. I am from T&T and lived there till I was 20 years old…been living in the US on the west coast for the last 50. Trinidad is my origin, and I treasure and care about it always. ❤😊
You're welcome. Thanks for your comments. They are very much appreciated. I am glad you enjoyed the song. Many of the important aspects of our history have been deliberately left out of our history books and not taught in schools. That is why I try to maintain the storyteling and social commentary in calypso. I am also from T&T and have been living in Denmark for the past 40 years - teaching and playing pan and singing calypso. Wishing you a pleasant day. Keep the spirit.
Power to you brother, long may you live and prosper

Excellent commentary. George I am interested in how the pans are wired - I see the wires but what are you using for mics? They look like some kind of contact mic taped on the edge of the pans.
Thanks. Glad to hear you liked it. That is exactly what they are - contact microphones that are taped to the edge of the pan. I bought them from a company called C-ducer. They are ideal for pans. You can check them out here: www.c-ducer.com/
