This is my journey of what lead up to my L5/S1 and L4/5 disc herniation, all the non surgical things I tried, mistakes I made, and what lead to eventually get surgery on my L5/S1 disc. This is the first video on my road to recovery! Hi , i just had mysurgefy 1 werk before, its 8th day today i start a getting a pulsating vibration on my dorsal foot (the downside of the foot) idk how to explain and pain in Achilles heel is it common does it go away with time..?
How do you feel now? I so appreciate your time.
Cost of surgery
Depends on your insurance and what it covers. My insurance had me pay $3500 down.
How are you feeling now?
Im scheduled Monday and all I have to take is Tylenol. Idk how to stand these next few days. The paid is UNFKNBEARABLE and I cry daily
Thank you for your story on this. I also have an L5-S1 disc herniation. Tried chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, two epidural steroid injections and acupuncture. I finally have a consult with a surgeon in a couple of weeks.
My disc herniation is at L5S1 also and my microdiscectomy is in 10 days; I'm told by someone who had the surgery that I'll need to get a bedpan because of the no movement rule. Did you have to use one?
No bed pain needed! But a toilet seat riser is one of the most recommended items on Reddit for surgery. You will be told no bending, lifting, twisting, pushing or pulling, BUT you will need to be walking around after surgery. Learn the log roll out of bed. I have a "how to prepare for a microdiscectomy" and a "most common questions" video on my page. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.
I was given Gabapentin for nerve pain. It made me nausea before my surgery .
Thank you so much for this video and all the information , I have the same issue and they are talking about this surgery and as a stupid idiot I looked into the surgery's and it spooked me but watching these videos has brought alot of comfort about everything :) thank you ❤
Thank You...great video❤
I’m 2 weeks post op and still have nerve issues in my calf and tingling in my foot from the same surgery it isn’t as bad as from before surgery but it’s annoying
Your nerve is healing so it's expected.
Hey.. is it healed or you still feel the same as I had a laminectomy and discectomy three weeks ago and I still feel tingling in my right leg and some pain in my calf after walking. If you have felt the same problem how did you deal with it and how did you recover?
Thank you for the helpful videos Betty! How are you doing now months after the surgery? I’m having mine in a few days and hoping for the best. It’s been really rough just being in bed for a month and a half with 2 little ones ugh😓
How are you doing now?!!! I have a little one too and I feel so useless and in excruciating pain. My surgery is in a few days
@spacemermaid1111 i got a lot better the day before the surgery!! So i canceled surgery. I highly recommend the back mechanic book! Hope you get better soon
Hi! I'm from the Philippines. I'm 3 weeks post-op. I was in severe pain for a long time before I decided to get surgery. Best decision I've ever made. I was on so many pain meds for a long time, fentanyl and oral morphine included. I got surgery at 7am and I was standing up and walking at 3pm. I went home the following day. Everything's good so far. Thanks for the video! This was me exactly haha cool!
Hello!!! Wow I love that we have such similar journeys! I hope your recovery is going ok and you're improving each day as well!
Did they tell you when you will be able to stand longer?
My doctor said everyone is very different; however, at my 2 week appointment I had asked if I'd be ready to go to a wedding by 5 weeks and my doctor seemed very confident that I would be and be able to stand the 3-4 hours that I needed to for the wedding. I'm now 4 weeks out and standing about 2-3 hours at a time just fine! After I got over the week 3 hump of a lot of my lightheadedness, I've just been focusing on walking and standing more to build up my strength. Nerve pain isn't my limiting factor but much more so my leg strength.
You seem like you are doing great! I have a charity event I helped plan 18 days after my surgery. I’m nervous about how I will be feeling by then!
@@angiegray3128 I've been really appreciative of my progress! I just got back from a wedding where I was standing all day (almost) at a little less than 5 weeks out and survived! I'd recommend finding a place you can lay down for 10-20min at a time to re-charge and bring ice packs! It's how I made it through! Best of luck with the surgery and try your best to be kind to yourself and rest!
