Do you know if you get the bus from Sofia to Ruse you can get off at byala and that is much closer to where you live. Also train stops at byala and/or borovo, If you can get someone to pick you up.

How's your heart issue Nikki? With all the travel hope it's not taking it's toll on your health too much. We love soup/bread but to make it more of a meal we sometimes add mashed potato and beans too :) Our fave meal is jacket potato, beans & cheese which we have twice a week lol. With the price of cheese and beans over there it will become a luxury meal!

I watched a vid on RUclips and the lady mixed vanilla extract with some water in a spray bottle(also a bit of cinnamon was added) and she says it worked wonders against insect bites👍😊 good luck

Hi Nikki, it’s me again. A local remedy that works for mosquitoes and sand flies is 1/3 metho 1/3 Baby oil 1/3 dettol. Mix together in spray bottle and spray on your arms legs and clothes. Avoid eyes. Nothing will come near you. Including your husband 😂 but it does work. I use this all the time plus a great product from Bali which costs a pound per bottle.

Fire is terrible. Being from Australia we go through this neatly every year. It is usually a different state each year. We loose hectares of land, native animals, properties and sadly people. Bulgaria be mindful of all your glass littered everywhere. In extreme heats, the glass becomes a magnifying glass. Thinking of you all. 😢

Love it. My disappointments in Bulgaria. Not just the abandoned animals but the cruelty some people inflict. I feel this could cause me some serious grief. The other is litter, however your village looks great.

We had a leaky pool. Tried the patches that came with the pool. Universal glue. No joy. Bought bike repair kits. No joy there either. But a friend suggested silicon. I had some left in a tube. I used some bike rubber patches and done old inner tube cut up. Worked a treat! 😊

Totally agree with you about the blessed rainy days! We call them English summer days! From one wood obsessive to another, the fast growing stuff (like tree of heaven) seasons quicker and slow growing stuff seasons slower. It also seasons quicker the smaller it is cut (more surface area) Hope this is useful.

Had some wood delivered Thursday afternoon on the road and had to move it before it went dark as cars wouldn’t have been able to see it. Walking up 6 steps and moving it to the wood store was t the best way to spend an afternoon. The heat was exhausting and oh did we ache the next day.

Great to see you back in BG🎉 - we must have been en route about the same time, although I was camping in my van with dog and cat! - ended up taking 2 weeks instead of 1 because of the heat waves and no Aircon so only driving early mornings🥵 but I’m very happy to be back at last too! Garden looks like a jungle and house was spider city - going to take a week or two to get shipshape!!😅

Try some essential oils a mixture of lemongrass, clove and lavender oil in a vinegar solution You can also use eucalyptus oil, but I don’t care for the smell of it. It does work. Not sure about what kinds of insects you are trying to repel.

Happy birthday to Chris! Lovely plums! Aww Nikki I feel for you regarding the insect bites, the biting flies are absolutely evil! I always got badly affected by the bites with swelling, skin tightness and lovely oozing 🤢, whereas Darren just scabs only - then can't stop picking them. We did find that after some years I was less affected, but now that we're moving back again of course I will need to build up some immunity of sorts - not looking forward to it one bit. Shame about the rats eating the pool, what a pain. Would be good to have it full ready for any action for the wildfires, if required, but hopefully not.

They don't have nay money to fight the fires cuz they sent all their money to Ukraine.

Its scary to see how close those flames are to the village.

We are farmers from South Africa. What about long term residence. At the moment we are in Georgia. Very difficult buying property with land and getting residence. We are very capable in renovations.

I remembered that we have what looks like brand new fire hydrants in the village, with one opposite our house, and we've noticed other villages have them also. I wonder whether they would actually work though what with water being so precious and at times unavailable even for drinking.
