Baku, Bulgaria and Bucharest
Добавлен 28 июл 2012
Mid life crisis in action. Escaped the UK after 25 years of teaching to try something new (thank you, extremely patient family!). Completed a year of teaching in Baku. Renovating a house in a rural village in Bulgaria. Now teaching in Bucharest. It's all go.
Bulgaria 22: a weekend visit, a new neighbour, and a newish dog friend
Went "home" for the weekend and met my newest neighbour. Enjoyed my tea out, burned some garden rubbish, and fell in love with Mama B, the village beagle #bulgarianstory #bulgariavlog #bulgaria #ruralbulgaria #ruralliving #renovation #doglover #beagle #adoptdontshop #weekend #travel #soloinstyle

Hope you are doing well dear Niki. Looking forward to your content. Blessings ❤
Don't worry so much, within 10 years the villages will be populated by Englishmen, Canadians and Americans
Have you considered a compost heap/pile for your garden waste? Benefit you and your garden 😊
Also it would be safer for wildlife, snakes, lizards etc
Absolutely I have. It's high on my list of things to do, I just need to work out where it's going to go because I'll be adding veg waste to it as well
A damp a bonfire will produce more smoke, at least it wasn't car tyres lol. Hope you feel better by now.
Great video Nikki ahhh beautiful girl she’s gorgeous isn’t she very nervous Have a great time with family Niki x
Get well soon and enjoy your hols in UK!😅❤- would it be possible to PM you somehow to pick your brains about exam marking? I‘m currently teaching online (IG/A level English) but want to shift over to semi-retirement exam marking in the next couple of years - would love some advice/pointers to the best exam boards/timing etc :) PS: BG has autumn crocuses - shocked me too when I saw them in my neighbour’s garden - she’s given me some bulbs for next year!🌻😊
Yes, of course. Can you DM over RUclips? If not you can find me over on Facebook. I'm on as something like Blackpool to Baku to Bulgaria to Bucharest. I rarely use it but I'll see a notification.
Nice video Nikki 🤩 Enjoy your time with your family in the UK. And get well soon ❤- Sharon
Hi are you aware there is a train from Bucharest airport to the centre station Gare de Nord?
@annehallett289 I'm struggling with finding trains, the websites keep redirecting me to buses! But I know of someone who got one the other week so it's definitely a thing. Having experienced trains and buses in BG, I firmly believe buses are better.
Pffi had one from pup😢
It showed at your house Niki? ☺️
@Malta2024 she's been in the village for a while but she had three puppies back in August and I think she moved them into the empty plot next door. They are down in the village now but I think she's stayed on next door - just wandered in to mine yesterday
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest It seems she noticed the scent of your dogs. Poor dogs, there are so many of them in Bulgaria. To be honest, I’m a bit afraid of stray dogs, but I’ve never encountered one that was dangerous; they’ve always been harmless.
@Malta2024 this little one trotted happily down the path after me but wouldn't let me near her. I'll take her in if I can get her to trust me.
@@Bulgaria_BucharestI would do the same 👍 good luck 😊
Oh, I wld love it.xxcxx
Awwww x I had one for many years and now I had a Russell Beagle cross x
Can I ask you a question? I was wondering if it would be worth going over to Romania once a month to do a grocery shop I will be living about 40mins from Ruse would it save much money or would the petrol cost etc not be worth it thanks in advance ❤
@amandamegarry2061 that's a good question and we have considered it. There's a lidl not far from the Ruse border so it would probably be worth doing a scouting trip to see - we live between both so it makes sense to shop here
@Bulgaria_Bucharest That's great Thanks yeah I think it my be worth a try and if nothing else a nice day out thank u Again 😊 xx
Your video is very nice. I researched your channel and found that there are quite a few subscribers but still the videos are not getting many views. Because your video is not going in front of many people. I think doing SEO(Search Engine Optimization) you can solve the problem. Because after doing SEO, when someone searches for a video related to your video on RUclips, they will see your video on the top of other videos on RUclips.
I don't think your videos are boring. You're funny and very self aware. Like listening to tou.
@kateineu thanks! I'm not pretending I'm an expert, I literally spend 20 minutes putting these videos together, but I hope some people enjoy them x
Went to the Mall on a tour from Ruse a couple of Christmas’s ago. I have never seen Christmas lights as beautiful as Bucharest’s. My husband and I are going to spend a weekend there so can you tell me whether you can pay on the buses or do you have to buy your ticket at a booth beforehand? We are not too far from you in Bulgaria lol
@annehallett289 you can tap your bank card as you get on the that'll take 3 lei off you for 90 minutes of bus travel. But personally I prefer using 24pay, it's more reliable. If your card doesn't register and an inspector gets on, it's an 80 lei fine. Metro tickets you get at a metro station. The booths are getting fewer as technology develops.
As for the silly little woman who said your video is boring I think maybe she needs to get a life The shops look so clean and very inviting Glad you enjoyed your shopping adventure And your meal looked very very nice Hope the storm isn’t to bad Once again I like watching your videos keep them coming x
@@debraparkinson2848 Thank you xx
Looking good!
Wow..beautiful view 😊
Such a shame about the grapes, we had to leave ours too and they were delicious! The house is looking so much nicer with the new windows and paint job! The green is actually quite nice. What make is the white paint, it's very brilliant white. Never heard of a composting service in a village/town. We just have the communal bins dotted around.
@NewBulgarians it's Dekorator silicone exterior paint, really good. It took 3 tubs to do the house. Regarding the composting, the villages in VT are all going to wheely bins and all the steel dumpsters have been replaced with colour coded ones. But the promotional details say composters as well as a wheely- however, our kmet didn't invest in those so I'll make my own.
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest Thanks re: the paint. Yes we will definitely have a compost area at ours. I hate that people put gardening stuff into the dumpsters and dump their plastic bottles in the countryside so it would be a good idea to have composting bins.
Wow- well done 👍
Good grief this has to be the most boring video on RUclips 😂
Agreed 😂
@imeldaphukov8110 no need to watch! Have a WONDERFUL day, and I'm sorry your life is so empty that your hobby is being unpleasant on social media. I wish you all the best in life and I hope things get better for you.
@Christinegeorge-b1f there are millions of other videos out there for you, no need to waste your time on this one. Perhaps one of my others will be even more dull? I wish you a better future where you don't feel the only outlet you have is being unpleasant on social media. Thanks for adding to my stats.
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest Video is good, keep up the good work !
How rude. You obviously bypassed manners as you fell out of the evolutionary tree.
The decorating is coming on a treat, love the green windows !
Imol lol that’s me too I won’t of seen my hubby for 3 half months when he comes back end of November for 3 days Your house is looking really well Nikii Love the green and I don’t like green x
You look so much like Bea from The Indie Projects.
@patsycovino5222 I don't know who that is but I'll be looking it up
All about the wood 🪵🪓
You've got all this to come!
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest And i can't wait 🙂
Hey Nikki hope your well x
You seem to be much better off in Romania, because you can be in your village any weekend you want, and your husband can come any time.
@nadyadobreva9904 we would rather be in Bulgaria full time, but I need to work so this is perfect (or it will be when Chris has his residency as well!). We love Bucharest as well which is a bonus.
I wanna go on that ferry 😎🌞
@@ladykatewarrior it's much easier than the road crossing
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest Looks beautiful out there
I love watching your videos nikki don’t let negativity get to you jealous people need to get a life themselves ❤
You have the right idea don't worry about people who leave negative comments they're just jealous you are living your best life I love watching your updates I currently live in Ireland but have just purchased a property about 25miles from Ruse in a we village and myself my husband and our 2 huskies can not wait to get out there although I think realistically it's going to be around 3yrs from now before we can live there permanently but we will enjoy are trips out in the mean time keep enjoying life it's too short to worry about anyone and I love your videos you give me an insight into what life is like and I can not wait to start living it thank you ❤
@amandamegarry2061 thank you. We have also spent a few years enjoying our house on holidays and it's been great. Still at least two years before we can get residency and it might be longer if we decide for me to keep working in Romania, but slow and steady wins the race. I wish you great joy in your house!
Thank so much you too ❤
Thank so much you too ❤
Thank so much you too ❤
Absolutely stunning love early morning so beautiful ❤
Awesome!
Aww
I enjoyed the cooking section. It's very good. Many thanks, I will give this a go with tofu ❤
Glad your settling in It looks beautiful nikki it really does ❤
Looks like you settling in nicely 🙂
Niki, re the walnuts best you cut or let them fall off the tree and when the green skin starts cracking, you need to remove the green skin and let the walnut dry (in the sun). When the outer skin has turned black, 90% there are not good to eat, due to moulding inside..this is as per my Bulgarian boyfriend :) and hope it helps :)
@Malta2024 thanks! I was trying to get a few before they are really ripe because I'm stuck in Romania now (also full of walnuts, who knew?) until my residency comes through.....I'll direct my Chris to collect fallen ones for me (and thank you to your knowledgeable husband!)
It's important that he collects only the green ones, and on the ground there can be some good ones & already peeled too 😊 he removes the green skin, let them dry in the sun properly and store them in a basement/room in the winter months 👍when you are back in Bulgaria, give them a try 😊
@@Bulgaria_Bucharestand bdw good luck for your new job in Romania ❤ I follow you cause i love Bulgaria just like you do 😊
I love the new hair cut 🙂Best wishes on starting your new job. It's always nice meeting new people and starting a new adventure. I'm so happy that all your trekking all over the place is behind you, lol. It takes a lot of patience to deal with all of that, so kudos to you both. Native plants (even weeds) always grow faster than anything else, lol. You can always use a rock to crack open the nut shell 😃Lots of things getting accomplished in the house. I really like the idea of doing the addition. That would give you loads more room and the french doors would be amazing. Chris is a smart cookie and you could do your diy painting magic on the new french doors 😁 What a very nice spacious apartment, wow. The balcony is icing on the cake. Great job so far. Thanks for sharing your goings on.
Good luck xx
We have done the train once, and possibly never again. We chose the train thinking we'd rather be moving on the 'fast' train (that was ready to go) than waiting for the bus - but we got in 2 hours later than the bus. Like you said, it was hot, no windows opened either, it was packed and stopped at pretty much every station. Love going on the metro between the airport/bus station, so easy, cheap and punctual. LOL the weeds grow so much better than anything we plant too. We're hoping to get some of those weedy trees though as they grow fast and will provide some interest and shade in our field which doesn't have many trees in.
@NewBulgarians I'll definitely choose the bus next time! I'm sure you have plenty of the weed trees ..... I am trying to replace mine with fruit but goodness me, they are persistent!
@@Bulgaria_Bucharest There haven't been any of those trees in our garden so far, but in our previous houses they were very persistent lol. We will definitely plant fruit trees too.
Wow - really nice apartment - big too! Are you teaching in one of the international schools? I considered several before I got my online job - Bucharest looked like a fun city but in the end I decided I wanted to work from home as I am on my own with pets - looking forward to seeing your vlogs of life there as well as in BG. I finally got back to my village house in BG after 2 weeks travelling in the heatwave with no Aircon, only to then catch Covid😢 - I start lessons again in a couple of weeks - hope I feel better soon - good luck for the start of term at your new school!😅
@@writerlass5924 I'm so sorry you got the 'rona. It's horrible! Yes, in an international school. As you know, I mark online but working here means we can stay in Europe!
Hi could you send me more details of the 8k house...or who to contact with ref to buying it...many thanks
@user-il6kd5dk5h I'm not sure if it's still available but if you look further down in the comments here, there's a link to the page on Facebook where the houses in Oresh are listed:)
When you get your Romanian residency card, it is as if you got a Bulgarian residency card, right? Since both are EU member states. There is a train to Russe, so can visit your village oftener, I guess.
@nadyadobreva9904 I think as residents rather than citizens, we are still tied to 90 days anywhere other than Romania but that's okay, my plan is to have weekends in Bulgaria and Chris will spend as much time as he's allowed over there
Do you know if you get the bus from Sofia to Ruse you can get off at byala and that is much closer to where you live. Also train stops at byala and/or borovo, If you can get someone to pick you up.
@annehallett289 do you know, I don't know Byala at all! But the bus I get actually drops off at my village so that's okay. A train I would get off at Levski but I've never caught one....thank you, I will look Byala up :)
How's your heart issue Nikki? With all the travel hope it's not taking it's toll on your health too much. We love soup/bread but to make it more of a meal we sometimes add mashed potato and beans too :) Our fave meal is jacket potato, beans & cheese which we have twice a week lol. With the price of cheese and beans over there it will become a luxury meal!
@NewBulgarians mainly it's a cholesterol issue so I imagine I'm not doing myself any favours at the moment! I'm looking forward to getting back on the straight and narrow.
