Jibarito (Plantain Steak Sandwich)
The jibarito is flattened plantain slices that are fried and used as the bread portion. The sandwich is then layered with mayonnaise, cheese, beef steaks, tomatoes and lettuce. With the passing of time, other ingredients have been added or altered to the sandwich.

      Hola Shelley, The pigeon peas develop in pea pods. Each pod contains an average of 4 to 5 peas. The pod is opened with your fingers, which is demonstrated in the video.       Hola Gladys, It is delicious! Henry cooks the meat in a pot with barbecue sauce once it is shredded. He puts the BBQ meat in small containers and stores in freezer. If we are too busy to cook dinner, we have delicious BBQ sandwiches on a bun.

      Hola Stella, Thank you! They are normally charcoal grilled but I only have a gas grill. If you have a gas grill, try to maintain the temperature between 360°F to 375°F. The gas grill has a tendency to increase the temperature automatically when you close the lid. I had to lower the temperature gauge several times. I grilled the chicken skewers in two separate batches. However, if you decide to grill them all, the amount of time will differ so check them periodically on the grill. Enjoy!

      Hola, I also make and keep individually wrapped pasteles in the freezer. This is an alternative method to serve pasteles without spending time wrapping and tying them in plantain leaves - a much easier way of preparing pasteles without changing the texture and flavor.

You can use regular eggplant if you don't have Puerto Rican eggplant. Many times, I just pour olive oil over the cooked root vegetables with slices of avocados.

    Question 🙋‍♀️ I will be planting my seeds just as you mentioned in the video but I just want to know how long does it usually take to grow? We are in April and I’m in ohio so summer is coming soon.

      Hola, Depending on the condition of the seeds, it may take three weeks or just over a month for the seeds to start to germinate. If I see that there are no growth within a month, I usually plant new seeds in pots. When I initially plant the seeds in January, I plant the seeds in at least 10 pots because some will grow and some will not.

      It has to be a setting on your computer that is restricting access to my site. My website and RUclips channel are public social platforms. I just went to another computer and checked on the link to my website on RUclips and it took me directly to my site. I also googled my website and RUclips channel online and was given access.

      Hola Sally, No, I place the planter away from the sun in a shady area on my back deck. Direct sun will not allow the seeds to germinate.
