I think the I-16 is probably even less popular (no data on that though). This is an okay ab initio, although I’d prefer a Chipmunk.

@@ByronLina Ooh I had completely forgotten about the I-16 (its a great plane to fly, I should drag mine out of the hangar!) - but do you think it's more popular than the Christen Eagle?

@@ChattytumblerTCW isn't there a subset of DCS players into aerobatics? Not my bag, but might make it more popular than the I-16. Maybe.

I just tested this and the triangles were there for me. Were you on a multiplayer server?

Ah sorry, that's my fault as I have it bound to my joystick. The gear lever in on the lower left-hand side of the cockpit. It is the black lever next to the big rudder trim dial. I'll try to make a landing video this weekend (spoiler alert, you need to use a hard break to get the speed to drop off).

@@noscopesallowed8128 Hi there, if i may comment there are some very good tutorials on you tube. I found very helpful a Gentleman called "Mambo" . He has very good jdam and Tpod tutorials. I took notes , watched them and them watched them again from the cockpit of an F16 in DCS. Took some time , true, but it really fixed It in my head. Good luck.

@@JohnTheBodge you make a valid point and I know a lot of fliers who are avoiding ‘red’ air at the moment. Fortunately a lot of other countries fly these airframes so I try to stick to missions from their point of view.

@@kAnPaLtA1 the FC3 pack is a great way to get started in DCS, it’s very good value. I think the full fidelity F-5 is a much better experience to fly because you have to flick all the switches and turn the dials :) The FC3 F5 can use the same weapons as the full fidelity version and the flight models are very similar - the FC3 version is easier to fly in dogfights though.

@@bobt223 thanks for your nice words. If I get a chance I’ll put together a radar tutorial this week - like you rightly said, the simplified FC s are sometimes harder to use than the ‘real ones’. The main thing is that these are early generation radars eg not very good. Spotting big targets is not so bad but trying to pick up enemy fighters is tricky, even if you have everything set up and pointed in the right direction.

@@ChattytumblerTCW Looking forward to the radar tutorial. I have to say that I re-did the in game training mission and it all seemed a lot clearer. Maybe because I mapped all the controls and didn't have to go searching with every instruction. Still seemed that SOME of the symbology mentioned wasn't quite there. The lower vs. upper hemisphere based on range is new to me as well coming from more "modern" radars.

@@mikoajbach2629 I am assuming you are starting parked on an airbase. To rearm the aircraft you need to open the communication menu - the default key is \ but sometimes it is #. You should then see the option to 'rearm and refuel'/ You can load your plane from there.

@@aroga34 hi! I have just tested the mission and it still works in July 2024 :) I started playing il2 first as well, DCS was a big step up in complexity but the airplanes are amazing!

@@airsteve65 if the press when the countdown hits 8 seconds then that will be fine. If you accidentally press it before the ‘second’ countdown then just press and hold until the weapon releases.

Great question. I just checked and you are right, the kneepad method no longer works. The procedure has been updated. But since I load the plane on the ground, the mission editor method doesn't work for what I am doing. Thnaks again & I enjoy the content.

Yeah the patch has broken it. I see you’ve made a bug report on the forums. Hopefully we will get a fix next update :(

@@ChattytumblerTCW I saw your reply too. I was thinking that Im doing something wrong, and from 2 days I tried to explain what's going on and why it doesn't work, now its clear. Full procedure and qiuck mode doesnt work now. I hope we will see hot fix soon, in June Patch with Kiowa.

@@ChattytumblerTCW RB-04E has issue too, looks like all A2S missiles have a problem now :(

I've just tried again this morning and the recent patch seems to have broken the RB15. I get the same result, the missiles crash when they jink. I also tested the longer setup version using Bx7 and Bx8 waypoints and the missiles missed completely (when I was hitting 10/10 before)!

Have you landed at a friendly airbase? A neutral or enemy base might not reply to you.

@@ChattytumblerTCW yea, also i noticed that the comms menu does not work (i used the rearm menu)

Are you trying to use the ‘start bar’? If so, that no longer works - you need to start each engine individually by pressing the LH and RH Start buttons one at a time. I usually start the LH engine first and once the rpms have settled I go for the RH one.

I 2nd the motion, otherwise fantastic tutorial. Looking forward to next week when I'm off work so I can buy a car ( just passed my test @54 yrs old ) and play DCS mossie :D

Thanks for your question! The rudder and brakes are linked. If you are travelling in a straight line and want the aircraft to stop you would just hit the brakes as normal. For turning the aircraft while taxiing you need to hit the brakes and press the rudder. So, if you wanted to turn left you would apply the brake AND push your left foot forwards. The more rudder you apply the harder the brakes will squeeze and the tighter the turn. The aircraft is quite ‘light’ on the ground so you may see in the video that I am constantly tapping the brakes and applying a little rudder to keep the aircraft under control - if you leave the aircraft turning too long it can be hard to get it back in track without spinning out. Hope that helps explain it a bit better.
