      Yes, 8100 (52CL) cranks fit, but they’re very close to the chain stays. I talk about it in a follow up video. I since switched to 8120 (55CL) cranks and the fit is better. 🍻

    did you use 55mm or 52mm chainline with the shimano cassette because i have 11speed 10-51 tooth deore with original 30tooth chainring with 55cm chainline and i find the chainline extreme in the largest rear sprocket. would 52mm chainline with 32 tooth chainring give enough chainstay clearance?

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico Месяц назад

      In this video I used 52mm chain line cranks on this bike although frame is designed around 55mm. It’s a tight fit, but it worked. Changed to 55mm now though, because this is my mucky weather bike, and I needed a bit more clearance. Fitment depends on the cranks and Q-Factor. Truvativ Stylo DUB carbon 52mm chainline crankset didn’t fit.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 2 месяца назад

      I agree. Going tubeless saves a bunch of weight and will allow you to run lower pressure without tearing the tube’s valve-stems off. Hydro brakes are much better suited as well to slow these fat tire beasts down. 🍻

    Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it. You gave me the confidence to dig in my dropper. I found chunks of the three hard plastic sliders, a broken bumper (felt like elastomer foam - I didn't see that in yours) and the upper section is very scratched/skived. Fingers crossed that I can get another season out of it. Also, the bolt at 5:58min mark has an anti-tamper triangle head, but it's still possible to break it loose. Thanks again!

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Took about a day to do. If not shooting a video, it’ll only take a few hours to build. It feels surprisingly light for a 140/150 trail-bike, climbs pretty well too. Only thing that made it feel really unbalanced was the fork…. The stock rear shock is actually really nice. Great small bump absorption, but still supportive without feeling like a lifted truck. The stock fork on the other hand was really bad. It was harsh, and nothing like the rear, making the whole bike feel kind of unbalanced. Upgrading the guts to Charger 3 with buttercups, replacing the air spring also with the buttercups version and switching to low friction SKF wiper seals did the trick, but the Manitou suspension is just my preferred set up. Bottom line, first thing on your to do list should be the front suspension. Happy Trails, can’t go wrong with a model year ‘23 Habit. Nothing proprietary on it anymore, solid performer. 🍻

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 5 месяцев назад

      I don’t have experience with the Trek. Looking at the 2024 specs though I would say it’s a tough choice. I don’t dig the fork on the Trek, but that can be easily swapped for a better one. I like the fact the Trek already comes with beefier tires and 2 water bottle mounts on the frame. Comparing the 2023 Roscoe 6 with the Habit HT2 the Habit takes the cake hands down. 2023 Roscoe can’t take more than a 120mm fork and has no through axle rear so that would be a nogo for me.

      Sounds like a solid plan! Look at the Manitou Mattoc fork. You can adjust the travel without buying extra parts, same goes for the “air tokens”. Other forks need you to buy them, on the Manitou you can adjust the air volume real easy without them! Maintenance is also much easier, tuning of the shim stack can be done with info readily available from Manitou, and it’s soooo much plusher without being mushy even on the base model (COMP) Mattoc! 🤟

    I’ve thought of getting one . I live in Arizona so very unlikely to see snow. I would use maybe 3.75 tires on a rigid build if it could end up less than 30lbs to ride in the dry desert here . I’m 72 and just sold my roadbike which I rarely road because of traffic plus I’d like to have disc brakes for going downhill. A fat bike might be fun to putt around on some desert trails here .

      Same bike, but with the same parts I used on my “crazy budget bike upgrades” video and with 26x4.00” Jumbo Jim tires was a bit under 28 lbs. most Fat tires weigh less or the same as a burly dh tire. On this build the most weight comes from the cassette, bb and cranks, handlebar, seat and seatpost. You should get one! You will be surprised how normal it will handle, but with tons more traction and float in sandy surfaces.

    This is how Cannondale should build the bike as a legit top notch hardtail!

      Thank you! Cannondale finally released the Habit HT1 in a sick silver finish and 1x12 Deore components a few weeks ago. Only upgrade I would need is a better fork. Even the base Manitou Mattoc Comp is so much better than most “Major Brand” forks imo.

    You can also tune up the Advent how much you want the clutch to work. There are two screws in the back and you can loosen it or tighten it how you want. Nice bike.

    Здравствуйте! Не правильно Вы проверяете натяжение спиц. Это делается до сборки колеса на стенде, чтобы была возможность привести спицы к равномерному натяжению по каждой стороне и если надо, откорректировать колесо. Какой смысл это делать на собранном велосипеде, если возможности регулировки и контроля уже нет?

      Good catch👍 I checked the tension as you stated in the truing stand before I had the tires on, but my camera was off. So I only did it real quick with the tires on for the video, but they were still evenly tensioned.🍻

    Hey, do you know what size the IS headset is? 41/52 or 42/52? Also, how tall are you for the XL? Lastly, how are you liking it? Is the steering floppy on flow trails being so slack? Thanks and again, such a great build video!

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 10 месяцев назад

      It’s a 42/52 IS headset. I’m 6’1”. I’m running a 40mm stem, stock one was 50mm. Flow trails is where it actually thrives IMO. I slammed the stem because it felt a bit floppy on technical climbs due to the high stack, now I really like how it handles. If you check out my riding video of it you can see the type of trails I mostly ride. And thanks for the Kudos, glad you enjoyed the video! 🍻

      @@Onkelrico Awesome feedback, thanks!! I'll be out of the country until late January and when I get home I'm going to buy the black HT3 and do what you did. I'm hoping that it will be just different enough to my Chameleon without it being a drastic enduro shredder. I will be putting a 130mm fork on it and it will be a size large as I am 5'11"

    Do you think the frame itself can handle enduro tracks and drops? Or can it be as hardcore as stoic frame?

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 10 месяцев назад

      Cannondale says the Habit HT is in the ASTM Category 3 (General Trail Riding with jumps less than 24”) Canyon Stoic is ATSM Category 4 (Jumps less than 48”). So going by that alone the Habit HT is not aimed towards the Gravity side of things. 🍻

    @hardmtnbiker 10 месяцев назад

    At 26 lbs, that a really light hardtail and not really any super high end overpriced components. I bet it rides nice. I think Cannondale did a great job on the geo.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! I agree 26lbs. Is not bad especially since it’s a XL frame. It’s a bit heavier now though, since I added 2.6” tires and a dropper post…😆 For my type of trails and riding I mostly do, I love how it rides!

    • @hardmtnbiker
      @hardmtnbiker 10 месяцев назад

      @@Onkelrico wow! Especially for an XL frame, that’s light. Yep, bigger tires are heavier. I have a small steel hardtail built with really light parts and a 34Fox 120mm fork(a pretty light fork) and that bike weighs 27lbs but it’s got 29x 2.5” rear and 29x2.6” front tires along with wide CushCore wrappped around a wide i35mm Stan’s Baron CB7 rims. I don’t mind that extra weight because or the way it sucks up the bumps with those high volume tires that serve as a small amount of suspension.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 10 месяцев назад

      Wow. 27lbs. for a steel hardtail, with wide tires & inserts on a burly rim is pretty light IMO! 🍻

    • @hardmtnbiker
      @hardmtnbiker 10 месяцев назад

      @@Onkelrico thanks, I really like it. True the dropper post,wider rims,fat tires and suspension fork add some weight. But I’ve built up lighter hardtail’s with rigid carbon forks and without dropper post. They’re really nice, and climbing is a pleasure but you have to slow down and be able to pick a good line on the descents.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico 10 месяцев назад

      I hear you. I’m too old to be riding without a suspension fork. Got a bad left shoulder on top of that and even on the smooth flow trails around here I felt it for weeks after riding a rigid fatbike….
