My 2025 Watch Industry Wish List
In today's video I talk about my wish list for what I want to see in the watch industry for 2025. There are lots of trends I want to see end and new types of watches I hope to popularize in the new year.
I personally have had it with the likes of the Tissot PRX, suite of Timex and Seiko re-issues and even some of the new Tag Heuer releases. I want some originality in the watch industry. No more reissues and designers simply going into the back catalog of older pieces. Say what you want, but brands like Rolex and Omega are using history and heritage for forge new designs.
I also want to see the trend of integrated bracelet sport watches to end. This has been the center of the watch world for...

The Casio to buy above all else
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
In my opinion, the best Casio you can buy is the Casio Duro (MDV106-1A). This is due to the Duro's versatility that it offers versus its fellow Casio's such as the G-Shock, F91W, and others. At the end of the day, it's hard to wear a digital display watch in a formal setting. That is not a problem for the Rolex Submariner look-alike, the Casio Duro. In today's landscape, you can wear any form o...
Don't buy a Rolex, buy a G-Shock instead

In today's video I am comparing the Rolex Explorer to the Casio G-Shock. On the surface, this comparison doesn't make much sense. However, these are both famous and popular examples of field watches and tool watches, albeit at vastly different price points. Starting at just $50, the Casio G-Shock gives you everything you need from a tool watch perspective. 200 meters of water resistance is join...
These watch deals are SCARY good!
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 месяца назад
In today’s video I talk about the best deals in the watch industry right now. In my opinion, each of these 3 watches provide value beyond their price point. These deals are so good that it’s SCARY. The Casio A700 is probably the cheapest and best retro styled watch for the money. It has the looks of our favorite Casio's and digital watches from the 1980s. The Timex Marlin Chronograph gives you ...

In today's video I discuss the first new collection from Patek Philippe in 25 years, the Cubitus, and the effect it has and signals for the rest of the watch industry. As part of this wave of potential changes, he talks about adding mi...
$70 Rolex Homage VS $7000 Rolex Explorer
Просмотров 7733 месяца назад
In today's video I compare a $7000 Rolex Explorer (124270) to a $70 Rolex Homage (Cadisen c8213). I wanted to see if you can truly experience an iconic watch by buying an homage or whether it would fall short of the real thing. It seems public opinion is split on homage watches. Some view them as rip offs and fakes, whereas some see them as an affordable way to experience a luxury piece. There ...

Should You Buy Vintage or Modern Rolex?

    If it has to be an electronic\electric quarz movement, wearing a simple watch defeat the purpose, a smart watch is a better option. Only a mecanic\automatic watch is still valuable as a classic simple watch, which doesn't need any battery so no costs added, one can wear an automatic 10 or even 20 years without any service, anyway far over 5 years. Then the second hand just jumps each second, which isn't accurate, because the time doesn't jump but it flows, jst as an automatic watch second hand moves, almost, it still has some small jumps but far smaller, therefore it looks like continous movement. It's also more work in there. So against an automatic, a quarz watch doesn''t even stink in comparison.

    The only watch I regretted upgrading was the IWC Mark XVIII. When the XX came out with the slightly smaller case, tweaked dial graphics, and 5-day power reserve, I immediately sold my Le Petit Prince Mark XVIII and had my AD hold the first blue XX she got in. Huge mistake-the movement accuracy was terrible (went back twice for repair), it had the jumping minute-hand defect, the new "EaseXChange" strap was much stiffer and cheaper feeling than the old Santoni leather straps, and they lost the old caseback engraving of Le Petit Prince and replaced it with the old Junkers plane Hitler used to fly around in. Huge mistake all around and IWC's customer service through the whole process soured me on the brand as a whole.

    come on guys. you see immediately the fake one vs the real one. The real one is at the end of this video. I barely see a replica with the exact same crown at 12 on the dial. 95% you will see directly the difference on the crown, after you have other specs like the "Y" is way different too in the day box. etc. Also Rolex watches are much more precise - finer on the dial, bracelet etc

    Does everyone forget that GS formed in 2010 and they're being talked about in the same conversation as Rolex and Omega, that's a pretty amazing trajectory. How is their catalog confusing? The break it down into 5 sections, sport, heritage, masterpiece and everything that evolution 9. I find it easier to use their watch finder and sort by movement. I know I'm not that interested in the quartz, mainly their spring drive and manual wound. Granted they could shrink their catalog a little but then the same people would be complaining....oh they don't have anything new wah wah. They shouldn't move too far away from what got them where they are.....cough cough...BREMONT!

      @@NA-sr9pv ironically, my opinion actually changed and I did buy the 124270. looking back, I think both of these watches have their own value. If you’re someone who likes the feel of a “neovintage” piece (and want to save a few grand), get the 114270. If you are like me and come to really like the feel of a modern Rolex, get the 124270. Either way you are a winner because you’ll be wearing an outstanding piece. Cheers.

    If a watch holds sentimental value, it makes sense to keep it running. However, sentimental value doesn't necessarily depend on something being expensive. It could also be anything, not just a watch. I wouldn’t assume that a watch I’m wearing now will hold significant value to someone else in the future. As for replacing the entire movement, that’s a possibility even with mechanical watches. When you go the vintage route, you never really know what to expect. The best vintage watch is the one you bought yourself 20 years ago :)

    I will start of saying I HATE digital watches and their plasticky resin cases!!! but things change kinda sorta. I was at a low point in my life, broke as a joke and no watch!! I was getting buy on cheap Chinese analog s that I was lucky to get a year out of, so I'm watchless which drives me nuts! I was at my local Walmart checking the watches out and their she was a old school square digital watch, not bad I said to myself for a digital, so I went about my shopping about to check out and said to myself you need a watch and it's a Casio so it will last more than a year, made the purchase set the time In my car and strapped it on, OMG!! The pure joy of having a watch on again! the lessen learned those gshock guys wearing the digital watches the size of a dinner plate are NOT the enemy, those losers that say to you "what are u wearing a watch for? you have your phone for that" that's the enemy!!! they just don't get it!!! so I've made peace with my "digital brothers!"😄

    Just because you’re bored of the trend doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. The PRX resonates with so many people because it balances heritage, affordability, and timeless design. Not everything needs to scream “innovation” to be great, sometimes, perfecting a classic speaks louder than chasing trends. If it’s not for you, that’s fine, but dismissing it feels unnecessary when it clearly appeals to so many.

    • @JackOnWrist
      @JackOnWrist 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for the comment. You are right. it’s certainly not a bad thing. It’s cool that someone like Tissot has risen to more prominence over the last few years, mostly on the coattails of the PRX. It does appeal to many and I would consider myself a fan of the design. I guess for me it feels like the epitome of the integrated trend, a true example of brands trying to capitalize on a trend. I guess that’s the irony. You may say that they don’t need to chase trends when the PRX started as a trend chasing piece in my humble opinion.

    • @equejas
      @equejas 2 месяца назад

      Totally agree that the PRX originally tapped into the integrated bracelet trend in the ’70s, just like other watch brands at the time. But the 2021 re-release is what I was referring to-it brings that iconic design back with modern updates (auto version with waffle dial, powermatic 80, etc.) It’s not just about following the trend; it’s about offering a fresh take on a classic, making it stand out in today’s market. I personally chose to buy the quartz version because I'm not ready for the extra care needed for the auto.

  • @BRMCaptChaos
    @BRMCaptChaos 2 месяца назад

    I’m hoping they do more designs in different sizes. For instance (because Tissot popped up) a Gentleman in 38mm and or 42mm. It’s a charming design that could scale, the 40 is a smidge too small for me, but too big for others.

    • @JackOnWrist
      @JackOnWrist 2 месяца назад

      I totally agree. I’d love many brands to explore making at least a size for larger and smaller wrists. Say 37mm for small and 42mm for large. Some do things like this already but it seems relatively rare.

  • @seanpham67
    @seanpham67 2 месяца назад

    I agree with the first two points, but not on the quartz watches. I would never pay that amount of money on mid tier luxury watch brands for a simple quartz watch. I mean, you already have Cartier and Grand Seiko in that area, but to pay several thousands of dollars for just a stainless steel case and bracelet… Never! The fascination for mechanical watches lies in their movements and craftsmanship. It’s the heart of the watch and all the technical specs like beat rate and accuracy, robustness, antimagnetism, power reserve, different complications and finish of the movement is what give these watches and brands their value to justify these crazy prices. Cartier as a watch brand turns me really off with their horrendous high prices for their quartz watches. It’s like with cars. Would you spend that much money on an electric BMW or Porsche? It’s the engine where the value is. Nobody wants to buy their electric vehicles.

    • @JackOnWrist
      @JackOnWrist 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for the comment. I see what you’re saying. My question for you is, would you buy a mid tier luxury watch (like an Omega for example), if it had a 9F quartz movement inside of it or something similar? Would a higher end quartz movement sway you? I think you’d be interesting to see your brands in the mid luxury space invest in higher end quartz. For now it seems it’s limited to GS and Citizen.

    • @seanpham67
      @seanpham67 2 месяца назад

      @ I’ve been checking out the 9F quartz movement from Grand Seiko and there was one model I really was thinking about getting it with that movement. But then the asking price for it was over 3000 € where I live and that I was not willing to pay. The 9 F is great, but for that amount of money I’d rather save up for another Tudor, Omega and Rolex or would buy a Longines So my answer is no. If Grand Seiko is in this price range for their quartz movements already where will Omega, Rolex and Tudor be with their prices? I don’t know maybe I’m just oldschool. I just love to listen to the ticking sound of my watches and to look at their movements and how the second hand is gliding around the dial ( I’m a proud owner of the Speedy Sapphire, Aquaterra, Oyster Perpetual and BlackBay 54). I have also two quartz watches. My Casio for the gym and a Rado I got from my Dad which I wore before I got into mechanical watches. It’s a plain and simple dressy black dial watch on a polished stainless steel bracelet which costs also 1300 € back then. If it wasn’t a gift I wouldn’t bought it. I don’t feel any connection with a quartz watch on my wrist nowadays.

    Lovely video! I've had my 114270 for almost 5 years now, and I was thinking about replacing it with the newer version just because of the lumed 3, 6 and 9, that is the biggest flaw of the older one (Bracelet is not important to me as I wear it on a strap), but I gave up on the idea after seeing one next to the other. The new one "screams" at you with thicker text, hands and markers, while the older one is more understated, which I prefer as it "tells" the time instead of "screams" the time. Also the lugs on the new one look more stubby and shorter compared to the original. Also the bezel is too thick for my liking. Anyways, I've kept the 114 and it is one of my most worn watches (as on a strap you don't feel it at all, making it the most comfortable watch I own)

      Thank you for the kind comment. It’s an honor to be speaking to you. I love your channel. I think you made a great point. Comparing the two explorers to one another, the 114 just looks better. I couldn’t help myself with the more modern bracelet and heft, however, both models have their charm. Some days I miss the 114 and (thankfully) most other days I’m super glad I made the switch to the 124. Thanks again!

    Totally agree. Tissot has done really well with the PRX but we've had enough of them now after 4 years of being bombarded with endless variations. They did the same thing with the Visodate and spoilt it. Maybe dial (ha) it down to just the occasional PRX limited edition release and leave it at that. What Tissot should be doing now is looking to some of their more recent models which had distinctive styling (like the rather nice Bascule and TXL/TXS from ~20 years ago) and releasing updated versions of these. Nothing quite like them on the market now at this price point. Tissot have umpteen designs in their back catalogue and huge resources behind them so no excuses for such laziness. I too would like to see more premium quartz watches on offer. For example, how about a return for the Omega DeVille 37mm quartz which seemed to disappear in the early 2010s and made for a more affordable entry point to the brand? Nothing wrong with quality quartz done well.

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I appreciate the way you articulated what you said. I think Tissot has done an outstanding job with the PRX. It’s obviously a hit, and I’m not trying to take that away them. But as you said, they could use a little more originality, or even just to focus on some of the other models that you mentioned. I know you have to stick to what works, so I get why they have doubled and tripled down on the PRX. But they could certainly change it up a little. To the other mention of quartz models… I love that Deville model. I hope these brands try to make legit impressive quartz movements to be proud of. I’d kill for a 9f style movement in something like an Omega. I’d even take a HAQ that we seen in brands like Longines but into an Omega case.

      @@JackOnWrist Thank you. The problem with Tissot and a few other Swiss brands is basically too many worthy and inoffensive but also rather generic/boring designs which are unlikely to appeal to those looking for something a bit different/edgy. Seiko seems to be capable of giving even entry-level watches like the SUR models a touch of design interest and character. Tissot offer nothing at all at this price point! Their basic offering is the Everytime range which to me looks utilitarian and gawky with no character whatsoever. I think Tissot should be more bold and take a few risks . . . the PRX has most certainly paid off for them so they need to sustain the momentum with something new.
