Rock on 👍 🥃
Hold the rocks. Make mine tight.
Hey Annie Van Auken, I have one of Berl Ives records.
Art-- right now I'm staring at three sets of 45s, all Burl Ives. Will work on them soon.
Hi Annie 👋 ! I used to live in Traverse City MI. It's a wonderful little city & Michael Moore has a yearly film festival their & the National Cherry 🍒 Festival is held their each summer with Blue Angels performing. This is nice as are the images.
Thanks, David!
The song was as great as your pictures.
Thanks, Ed! I really love Greg Brown's music. Later today, a related song.
Wonderful lyrics and what a voice
Sam Phillips & Sun records were making great records well before Elvis & this is one of them. Cool to be known as The " Hound Dog "
Mostly black artists on SUN before Elvis came along.
Bananarama someone?
He also wrote “A taste of honey “.
The lyrics, at least. In 1960 Scott put words to a recurring instrumental theme heard in the Broadway version of a 1958 British play called "A Taste of Honey".
Thanks for the compliment Annie, good hearing from you again.
Thanks for the information, didn’t know that.Once in a while, they show the film from 1961 starring Rita Tushingham.
@@stevevilinsky7464 Back then they cranked out drive-in theater fare like WOMEN IN CHAINS and of course Sam Cooke had his own "Chain Gang" pop song in 1960.

Thanks, David. Have been concentrating on reconditioning and transferring 78s to tape. Half of SHELLAC STACK #5 in done and there's an energetic instrumental I cannot wait to upload here. Tomorrow.
Good song steam:👍.

A classic of its time. Cab knew it was special. Open & close a set with it to please the crowd. Nice start to a Sunday.
It's a beautiful day in paradise. This is Cabell's first of many Minnies.
My Sunday School teacher had our choir ( the Chorusters) sing this. I have loved it all of my life!
Just watched Cool Hand Luke so this is appropriate. Like it 👍

@@AnnieVanAuken Thanks I got it!
I agree with Ed ! The Stones were best in the 60's. Just heard their version of As Tears Go By played with the late Marianne Faithfull's version. Love the Gimme Shelter documentary scene of them in the studio listening to a playback of Wild Horses ! A masterpiece.
Was für eine Stimme und was für eine mutige Frau...miss you lady Marianne 😢 RIP
Most people seem to think 70's Stones were best. Not me. Totally prefer 60's Stones.
I agree Ed .. Imagine hearing I Can't Get No Satisfaction the first time !
@davidellis5141 I would have heard it when it was released blasting out of my trusty transister radio!
Beggar's Banquet, Get Yer Yas Yas Out and Satantic Majesties are my fave Stones LPs.
@AnnieVanAuken Beggar's, Satanic and Flowers are mine.
@@AnnieVanAuken I like every era as far as the records....
Stravinsky & Shostakovich are my favorite composers. A certain intensity is always present in their works. This is nice.
Hate to be boring, but lovely, lovely Ludwig Van is my favorite. That said, Brahms' 4th and final symphony is leagues above any other. I've always felt that after he wrote it, Johannes B. instinctively knew there was nothing more he could add to this format, so he never composed another. It is profound and beautiful, and if there's a piece of music that can lead me to tears, the 4th is it.
You should hear the verses of the song and not only the stupid chorus.
Hey Annie, I like the pioneer era stuff, too. Wish more people had such a diverse interest in music. I mostly keep it to myself as I don't like that odd look from people. Thanks for posting. I can get into this !
Excellent. You're one of the rare folks! There's a few here of similar diverse tastes who comment regularly, so join in! :?D If you dig through the nearly 6,000 videos here you'll find lots of hornies (pre-mic. 78s), and there's hundreds more to do.
@ Some just can't see how I could like jazz-age music at the same token the pioneer rock and R & B of the 50s and the psychedelic '60s. It just depends on what mood in into at any given moment.
@@muffs55mercury61 My tastes are even more diverse, as this channel indicates.
@@AnnieVanAuken Awesome.
I've had this 78 since 1993 and it still is one of my favorites from Fred and the band. He outlived almost all the '20s bandleaders and was still quite active in his elder years. I do like Ted Lewis's cover of this (Columbia 157-D) too.
Ah yes! Is everybody HAPPY? There's a half-dozen Ted Lewis sides here, also 20 by Paul Whiteman, including a recording with Billie Holiday.
@@AnnieVanAuken Ted was one of a kind. His bands always had top musicians and they cut great tunes.
Loved this song since I was a kid. For years (before the internet) I thought Bobby was a black man. When he passed in 1990 his picture was not in the papers. Love my 78 rpm of this classic.
I'm more partial to the jazzy B side, "Shadrack".
Anyone else click on this, wondering if it might be one of those dreadful "AI" spoofs that keep cropping up on RUclips? I had to go to Google just to be sure it was genuine! Thankfully, it's real, and a good song too.
Like that song, I glued my balls to my butthole?
American music.
That's right and from a very specific area of America, the NW corner of North Carolina-- a gorgeous, mountainous rural place, also one of much impoverishment. The locals for 100 years or more brewed their moonshine (corn liquor), a very high ethanol content gulp of liquid fire. (I can't swear by that as I don't drink, but it's common knowledge.)
What a treat to find this!! This is my grandma singing.
*I'm so happy you found her here! :?D
All time classic Ray track. He's a legend & deserves to be. Elvis Costello got in trouble for mocking him in a drunken state & was apologizing for years afterwards in interviews. He was in an argument with Bonnie Raitt.
You have some of the best trivia, David!
Gotta be in the top ten of songs from my birth year.
You and me both, Ed!
Always enjoy the sound of a late 'hornie'
The mandolin woks so well here, though guessing the sweeter sound wouldn't suit everybody.
An exceptionally clean condition 78.
That's the best time to quit. My uncle, a Scottish Highlander & brought up on Speyside, said: "If you drink just the right amount of malt whisky each day, you'll live forever" The experiment is ongoing!
Scotch. OMG 😲 The nastiest tasting stuff since ipecac.

1997 was the year of Radiohead & Verve who scored big with Bittersweet Symphony but had the royalties stolen by Stones publishers. When Mick & Keith gained control of publishing they rescinded the rights back to Verve. A nice gesture by them. I don't recall these guys. Good song.
I'd never heard the song or of the band. Liked it. '97 isn't a year that I recall easily as to what I was listening to. I didn't know what was being played on radio. Out here there isn't radio. I have records from that time, but what they are I wouldn't know without looking them up.
Black Lab was a Geffen label band. I also never heard of them but had previously scrolled through this '97 sampler CD and marked the song as a possible addition here. He's got a good voice and the band is solid.
@AnnieVanAuken For an exercise I looked up '97 to see what I have from the year. Future Bible Heroes, Chug, Spiritualized, Yo La Tengo, Mountain Goats, Period Pains, Bettie Serveert and others. I think I got most of my info through zines.
@@mistery-ed7900 I've a lot of CDs from that era. This one seems very punk, with bands like Snot, Misfits, Veruca Salt, the Seahorses (yah!) Melony, Powerman 5000 and Days of the New.
Ed -1997 was the year of Brit Pop - 🇬🇧 ..Radiohead , Blur , Suede, Verve & Oasis & Labour 🌹 scored a landslide over the Tories with Tony Blair winning & Noel Gallagher from Oasis & Brian May from Queen at the victory party. Newt Gingrich & Bill Clinton had many compromises & the economy here was excellent. Both Newt & Bill had extramarital issues that ultimately slowed down both.
@@davidellis5141 An unrelated comment: Black Lab drummer Michael Urbano also was in my favorite circa 2000 band, Smash Mouth. (Love, "Walking on the Sun".)

Enjoyed the music of Fred in several Louise Brooks silent films from the era. She was absolutely beautiful. Her hairstyle still emulated often. Good stuff.

@@jrobbin24 Moonshine's been around forever. It existed even before the stuff was given this name in 1795. There are currently four U.S. states that permit the making of home 'shine (Massachusetts, Alaska, Arizona and Missouri). A favorite method of producing it gives us applejack. The simple process of "jacking" involves freezing hard cider and removing the ice. This elimination of water can raise the ethanol content to as high as 40% (or 80 proof), as strong as most whiskeys.
