@PaulThomas-g3h cheers, mate 👍. Yes, on the majority of bolts and final check, I will go round and torque everything up just to be sure. I have found that sometimes, on the vintage stuff, a torque setting is not tight enough, so common sense is used 👍

@PaulThomas-g3h I know at an old mechanic that says he has a torque elbow and that it clicks when it's tight 🤣 says he never broke a bolt in his life and has never used a torque wrench.

It's a two-way large pipe reamer 👍 works bloody wonders mate when cutting steerer tubes. They are on amazon for like 6 pound but worth a small fortune 👍

@kodew229 If you buy the mount, you can pritty much fit any brake set, mate. Even if you look at the shimano Mt400 great cheap brake, or go for something a little nicer either way with the mount and brakes you looking about £150 for all maybe more depending on wheels and so on. It's always a great upgrade for better braking 👍

@@BikeShedBoy About trains where I am , I travelled on the last pair of Sydney Trains K sets from Sydenham to Liverpool via Bankstown with a group of train 🚂 enthusiasts and departmental staff . It was an emotional experience for me . There should be video of it in a few days here on RUclips . The line to Bankstown is about to be converted to a metro system .

@EriebyCycle I 100% agree, mate. I don't like the new ones, so I brought this one cheap without the stand and have saved up a few quid to get the stand to finish it. Super happy. However, I did not like the original stands this would have come with, so I feel that with a little patience, I have now got the best of both worlds . 👍

I always look at it this way, mate. Could you buy a new high-end vision of any frame set new nowadays at that price point. I always find the answer is NO. So, it always answers the question for me when restoring bikes. Once done, it looks and feels new and is better than a new bike fresh from a current shopfloor bike shop. Bike shops now sell disposable non branded component entry-level bikes over 1k. Retro bikes will become very collectable, just like classic retro cars are now, give it a few years, and so yes I would redo a pine mountain at that price, but don't take my opinion for it you have to decide if its a right thing to do fir you mate👍

Thanks for your reply. Yes that makes sense and I think the price he quoted was reasonable. It's alot of work involved! He seems to think he can replicate the zolatone paint finish which is good. But not sure if perhaps a plane matt finish would be better? But then it's not original is it. I'm getting old now and I do find handlebars to low and was wondering if you have any ideas to raise the handlebars up? Even if it mean replacing the stem to make it more rideable. Sorry for the late reply.

@stephencrozier396 me personally I would prefer a glass finish, I think it will look absolutely epic in regards to the stem I would look for one that is short but has a better positive rice and that way it will bring the bars up. You could also look at bars that have a larger rise than the ones you have. I would love to see the progress. If you have Instagram, then you can send me some photos. I'd love to see people's builds 👍

Yes I do, will have to work out how to send a message first lol. I did pop into colour tech, based in Dartford Kent to check out his work. He had some nice work on show. He said the zolatane finish is achievable but will cost alot so that idea is out the window! I think perhaps a gloss finish would be nice and go with a darker grey I think like the later pine mountains. I will have to strip bike down and give it some thought.

@@BikeShedBoy Generic brand (Chinese) sold on local websites, I ride the bike very little and I don't think it would be worth it for me to buy a premium bearing that would be very expensive.

Hi mate, you got a fantastic bike from your dad, and it will be great for a long time for sure 👍 anything disk, even entry-level, like a standard shimano hub, 6 bolt standard disk. The rear will be a 140 mm rear as standard. I would aim for something low in price like the standard shimano rear hub and wheelset. Low in price but van be serviced and freehub body's are easy to get hold of. 👍

@@BikeShedBoy Thank you! Also the fork I have is a Rock Shox Pilot Air and has the mounting for disc brakes. I won't need an adapter up front correct? Also, I have been thinking about swapping my crankset and bottom bracket. I imagine I'd go Shimano for the BB as well.? Thank you for your time and answering questions. I appreciate it.

@dustinmoranda756 No worries, mate, any time, never a problem 👍 you should be fine on the front two standard types like the one in the video with the tabs or the firect mount. I am pretty sure that with the forks you have are likely like the ones in the video, and even if so, most brakes require a very cheap mount and not hard to buy and most will come with a brake even second hand👍 if you ever in doubt than send a message on Instagram with a photo and I'll do my best to help you getvwhat you need with the cheapest best option. 👌

@@BikeShedBoy Better "cantilever brakes" and a "premium sealed cartridge headset", for example , as you find potential , after a check of your own stock inventory . The client may find "last - minute" upgrade components online , or at swap meets , or fairs , or collectives . The work can be set - aside temporarily , and the progressive enhancements made , as resources from the client or yourself enable , or you have funds on standby for this , and the client has built good rapport with you . I have been in this predicament a few times but the end result can be rewarding for everyone involved .

@robertmcfadyen9156 I do well, and parts like upgrades are paid for up front with bank transfer just before I place the order, so I am not out of pocket. It's rare that I miss out on an epic buy, so I never have an issue. I use a lot of screenshots as proof, and it is also easy to return money if a buy of an item falls through. Again, very rarely happens. 👍

@@BikeShedBoy I am glad to hear this , but my brother was scammed several times on Facebook Marketplace 18 months ago , selling antiques and science fiction merchandise when downsizing moving house . I have never felt good about this due to a lack of safeguard mechanisms .
