    Yeah didn't like this mod as much either, ships too tanky. Player's ship needs to be with all the enemies they fight (and no time/repair system like in Klingon Academy), just gets too boring for my liking. As you, loved the first 2 seasons of the new BSG, a lot of it is how Voyager should have been - especially in damage continuity! I think the 3 writers strikes over it's production span did the most damage to the overarching story. Star Trek vs Star Wars game mods definitely has to be about the fun factor, as raw lore wise it's a no contest win for Star Wars. Their ships can travel the galaxy within hours, and the raw energy output of their ships and weapons are to the point a squadron of X-Wings could demolish a Federation Starbase in minutes with no losses. Babylon 5 is just superb, and I always try to watch it again at least once every year or two. A bit dated/cheesy in spots, but it was a low budget show doing it's darnedest and really puts to shame the millions & movie like effects car-crash shows like Discovery got, and utterly wasted. It was the 90s TOS, doing great sci-fi on a shoestring.

      Sounds like you and I are on the same level here. Ron Moore applied to BSG what he hated about Voyager - that there should be continuity to what happens to the ship, not be like new each episode. By the time it got back to Federation space, it should be almost unrecognisable to a factory condition Intrepid with all the modifications they would've had to make to repair and/or enhance the ship with alien tech. I used to rewatch B5 once a year or so, but since I got a family, that's not been so easy anymore :D As for ST vs SW, I think many Trek fans get hung up on that line in a TNG episode about how lasers can't even penetrate navigational shields as a 'ah ha gotcha!' argument because Star Wars uses predominantly, lasers. But I always understood SW weaponry to be more than just simple lasers.

      @@ange1uk Yeah that line on lasers I didn't buy either. "Laser" is a sweep-all term used in Star Wars since it's more about tech that just works for the story, we don't need to know HOW it works. If we called the Veteron Array a "laser", is that going to magically not harm the Enterprise? :D It nearly ruined the NX-01 with one burst at 1% power.

    I wonder if the warbirds weren't actually modded and were just base game stuff. Can't say I was a fan of the remake Galactica. Now the original Galactica which was dumb fun, that I loved. As I recall, B5 was using Amigas to render the CG. If that star destroyer wasn't an original model, it might be from Wing Vs TIE Fighter, it looks to have about that level of detail. Did you ever watch Space: Above And Beyond? I always wanted a Hammerhead flght sim in the style of Freespace2

      Space Above and Beyond is a series that screams for a remake. It was a show ahead of its time I think. I believe the ISD is actually something from an old mod of mine made by one of our team modellers. I've asked the author to confirm if its his or not :D

      Yes I guess this is true, though I never saw them as proper shields in the sense of Star Trek, acting more like the 'polarised' hull plating used on the NX-01.

    What's with the XWAU2024 not being able to support TFTC 1.34, making us rely on the XWAU2020 mega-patch?

      Making it compatible with XWAU 2024 isn't that hard as such, the problem is the Palpatine Total Converter. Its a total mess and each subsequent patch has made it more cumbersome to manage. So we will be removing it entirely and thus we have to split out the mods individually, making sure its all working, correct files, compatibility etc. I also need help from the XWAU team members to do it, and well RL does get in the way of things.

    At 57:24 I ask about the author of this ISD model and in editing I realised that it might have been from my ST vs SW mod for Armada I was a project lead for and the creator is Sim Rex as we had planned to make an ST vs SW mod for Bridge Commander that never came to be. But we did get the ISD in and released it I think for others to try. I've reached out to him for confirmation. I'll update this if I get a response..

      Out of curiosity, how would your team have resolved the differences in technology from SW to Trek? Deflectors versus shields; turbo lasers versus phasers, differences in speed/propulsion and such? I only ask because this has been a contentious debate for decades so I'm curious how a modding team would have resolved it 😄

      @@therexbellator Well I would simply give them a unified set of stats to work with, based on weight, role and ability and make your own judgement on how you would want a fun, engaging experience to be balanced. In our original ST vs SW mod for Armada, we basically started with a Galaxy-class vs an ISD and then used that baseline to create the rest of the game balance around it. Basically it's just coming down to an equation you can create to balance the firepower of the two universes against each other. Its irrelevant to focus on the technology aspect, because you simply can't mesh the two universes together like that and it doesn't matter to me from a gaming standpoint. You can make up any narrative reason you like to explain the reasons for the disparity or equality in tech and firepower 🙂 Now sure you could try to do that and focus on the technology, but it seems that inevitably one side will steamroll another (most arguments I've seen for either side usually seem to come down to one stomping on the other with ease), but that's not fun from a gaming perspective. Well.. maybe in a cathartic sort of way it would be fun, but you'd get bored of it quickly I'm sure. Balance tops realism every time for me for the best gameplay experience. 🙂

      Because its a tongue-in-cheek reference to you playing from the perspective of the Empire and their PoV. In this game, the first ever SW game where you played as the Empire, you don't really do any evil actions even if you are serving a genuinely evil organisation.

    Knew you'd enjoy this mod the most! You can add other ships and features, such as multi-target engagement for the player. The Retro-Badger-Gaming channel has a plethora of videos in Remastered, and pits various ships against others, including from other franchises such as Stargate, BSG, B5, etc. Thanks for the reminder at the end of Nemesis. A film so dumb that it has an antagonist with a ticking clock, so naturally he lets the Enterprise wait in orbit of Romulus for days before bothering to speak with them. It did nearly ruin Tom Hardy's career, he went into a 2 year depression in addition to a drug problem, before he turned himself round for his role in Bronson.

    Dude, thank you for this! Just recently got this going and its amazing. I do have one question i havent been able to figure out though; even after fully assigning and calibrating, i cant get my HOTAS throttle to drop my speed below 50% in game. I have to use the keyboard to manually bring it down. Is there something im missing or is this just part of the sim? Its no big deal but it would make it a little nicer to figure it out. Havent played XWA since it was new so I cant remember if thats how it was then even. Thank you again!!!

      Yup, and I do make a comment on this a few times, including my final review that the phaser sounds are very wrong. Torpedo sounds are great though. However you COULD argue the bolts are accurate, if very slow firing. If you recall in Wrath of Khan (the only TOS movie that had the Enterprise firing phasers), they were more like rapid fire bolts.

    Hey man, love your videos on this game and others! Here is a nice tip to help you lower the volume in any game that's too loud. You want to right-click on your speaker icon in your lower right corner then click on volume mixer. From there you'll see a list of programs with volume sliders on them. You should fight Bridge Commander and when you bring that down should make the game a lot less noisy. Hope that's useful for you! :)

      Thank you! I have thought about this with the Windows volume settings, but ultimately I prefer to try and balance the audio with the games own settings, and then by that metric I can also judge the games audio balancing systems and quality overall. This mod makes things very loud with its sometimes interesting choice of sound effects, combined with the highly compressed videos and some dialogue they throw in.

    Just one comment after looking at the MIRO board... The Carrak cruiser was meant to be very good at escort duties, with good defence against starfighters as well as light capital ships, with the disadvantage that it could only carry a few fighters in a dock tube? It seems a tiny bit different from what you have classed them as? For a rebalance it might be worth making it a good small-medium anti-capital ship, and decent starfighter defence, with no starfighter complement. I just assume the current stats are for balance reasons?

      The Carrack doesn't have a proper hangar but I did realise (after I made it in Miro) that it does actually have several mounts underneath to carry fighters, just like the Gozanti, though I've never used this in game. So yes it can be altered when I get round to going back and updating the board.

    A reminder that false positives may still affect you even with this patch. If so you may need to add an exception rule to your AV program to exclude TFTC from any real-time/active scanning, though you do so at your own risk of course. All our code is publicly available via Github. A 1.3.5 patch will be in the works in the coming weeks to make TFTC compatible with XWAU 2024.

      The AI (probably thankfully) can't do that. It only ever fires one missile at a time at you (and usually no more than is needed to kill you). AI behaviour does not launch two missiles at a time unless heavily damaged.

    Man this mission somehow just keeps getting better. It was wonderfully intense and stunning in low orbit of this gas giant, pulling what in the original Tie Fighter was three full missions into a single crazy intense mission with every twist and turn making it feel yet more desperate. And now with that stunning skybox making it REALLY look like the traitors were trying to hide just above its atmosphere and were trapped, pinned against it... Desperately hanging on by your fingernails has never looked so good...

      If you mean all the background explosion effects I agree, audio balancing will be addressed at some point :)

      @@Daimo83 Ah I see, I thought you meant the audio. The limitation here is the explosions are contained in high res images in the DAT files (and there are several variants). Those take up almost 1GB of space. So yes I guess we could make a new one with double or triple the frames, but it will also considerably increase their DAT file size too :D

    Just watching you chase down those X-Wings gave me a newfound respect for them. They may look slow in movie scenes, but they really are a nimble craft. I think you've captured the chaos of a "real" Star Wars battle perfectly. From the constant turbolaser blasts to the frenetic silhouettes of familiar Rebel craft zipping in and out of the explosions, this feels like the most accurate interpretation of what a scene from the movies would actually look like.

      If you want to know how I made it. I made a highly detailed gas planet in Blender and then set the sun at a very low angle (7° below straight horizontal) and placed the camera right above the surface, and took an Equarectanglar image of it and a straight down image. Then ilios cropped and edited the images to not show a seam and he added the increased horizon glow too

      Hello, these missions are not available from the regular 1.3.4 install from ModDB, this is only available from our Discord server as I wish to encourage feedback from playtesting. The links are in the video description to join our Discord then you can download the latest version which I just published which is v0.1.0 :)

      @@Trompunitalphapropan Hi, please ask these questions in the Discord server, it's much easier to help you there and you can post screenshots. The training missions are part of the main campaign, you can only play them in the simulator once you unlock them.

    I still feel Squadrons are better. Wish we didn't lose the community on that.

      Perhaps so, but you may find many disagree with you on that one. Personally, I found Squadrons rather average and not as in-depth as these older games go. Not bad, not great. The only thing really going for it (for me) is that Squadrons is visually superior in terms of graphical fidelity and modern system support and probably more accessible to the average gamer, but overall the experience is much more 'on rails' and a more shallow experience as a result (as far as Single Player goes).. However the game was marketed more as a multiplayer experience (like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter) with a tacked on single player campaign. Modding like this is most definitely not possible in Squadrons like it is with XWA.

    Those poor standard TIEs at the beginning. They stood absolutely no chance against a wing of TIE Advanced. Rather like the later name for them, the TIE Avenger.

    This is a really cool enhancement, but I have to admit watching this felt like the MB is going to be a little OP. I mean, the AI isn’t smart enough to shoot down your missiles when it’s coming right for their face so this just turns into Star Wars Instagib and takes away from immersion and realism. I think making the firing range for missiles shorter would at least add more of a fighting chance and realism especially if facing a group of fighters where at least a couple of them could get shots at you even if you can take out 2-3 before the merge. Or give the AI chaff or flares to add to the challenge and excitement. Amazing work - as always.

      The Missile Boat is meant to be OP... until you run out of ammo. So the trick will be building missions around its gameplay to keep it interesting :)

    Just have to say I love the Advanced redesign. While I miss the classic Vader fighter look, the more dagger-like wings just make it look more lethal.
