Hey Bill. I'm trying to fish the Norfolk this Thursday. Would you share your tile fish numbers with me? It was a great video.
It’s pretty easy there…. Look for flat-ish bottoms at about 650 feet. You’ll likely see a string of bottom fishing longline buoys tracing the outline of the canyon. They are looking for tilefish, and give you a good range to start. You might try 36 46.4N / 75 41.5W to start. When we have been out there the drift is usually toward the SSW, which makes fishing the Northern side of the canyon easiest.
@@thefishingsailor thanks Bill. I tried bottom fishing there before and didn't have any luck. I have a good spot that we catch lots of blue lines at outside of the Washington, but we are heading to the Norfolk tomorrow from Chincoteague because it's supposed to whip up southerly in the afternoon.
amazing video.
You should try,kristal fishing…easy going,reliable,basic,
Nt professional enough. Hw cn you show upside-down product 🤦♂️
You’re joking, right?
When doing the research were you aware of the Banax Kaigen 1000? I decided to go with the Banax both the 1000 and 500. Not a lot of reviews online for the Banax but the ones I found were satisfactory for my needs. If I'm still above ground in a couple of years, I might do a review. Your review was good.
I went with the BM9000A too thanks. Did you ever make a vid on how you converted the battery gator clips to the 12v plug? my boat has 12v plug (kind of like cigarette lighter plugs). Thanks for the vid.
DJ, Using a cigarette lighter plug is not really viable. For one thing, they tend to easily pull out of the socket (always at the WORST possible time!), and they are also rated for only about 10 amps. You'll need more than that. There are a number of plugs that are sold for trolling motors that are well suited. Bill
Thank you for you help in this matter mate. Kia ora from NZ
Hello sir, I have a forcemaster 9000 is there to factory reset? I have the safety circuit breaker and it no more pull line in electric function.
What about Banax 1000 or 1500 TM?
What the difference between beast master 9000 and force master 90000... Which one should I buy?
Enjoyed this video. Thanks for the info.
Very nice enjoy my friend let me know what kind of battery you connected to this beautiful Shimano Reels 🙏🏻❤️🎣🇧🇬
I really like your detailed videos. The way you take the time to explain not only the criteria for selecting which reels but also the comparison makes it very easy to follow along. Keep up the great work!
Very well said! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I have a great understanding now thank you.
You made the right choice with the Shimano Beast Master 9000, I have the BM 9000 A from US Dealer it is a great reel.
We have been really happy with it. It has made our hunt for tilefish a lot more like fun and a lot less like work!
Same here.
That sunfish at the end was really happy to see you guys
We have seen a lot of ocean sunfish in our ocean travels, but these were the first we ever saw airborn!
Nice tile!
Thanks! It was our guest for dinner tonight, and they are SOOOOO good!
Does it come in colors?
Don’t tell Karen, but I special ordered a pink one for her!
Cap n Bill, Nice tp put a face to the blog post. Great info , I have never done and deep fishing but this looks intriguing. Keep em coming
Slow pitch rods are also excellent for bottom fishing with bait. I bought one for sheepshead and tautog fishing and I was a bit skeptical that the tiny rod would work for those fish but it surprised me
What’s the name of that rod ?
Bryon, This is the rod discussed: Major Craft GXJ-B66/5SJ Giant Killing Slow Pitch Jigging Conventional Rod
@@thefishingsailor thank u
I know a lot of jiggers poo poo on them but if you're on a budget and you want to try slow pitch jigging the chinese made Goofish rods are really not all that bad. I have a Goofish Black pe 2 - 4 and a Temple Reef elevate e1 and while I do tend to favor the Temple Reef, I can't say that I catch more fish with it. I have a Daiwa Saltist 15h on the goofish and a 20h on the Temple Reef. They are the Daiwa equivalent to the Shimano torium and it's just a preference thing for me. I've always been a Daiwa guy.
Hello! Thank you for your informative video. I have purchased a jigging rod and thought I could pair it with my 1998 Abu garcia ambassadeur until you mention the 36 in retrieve as a minimum. I have been out on three offshore trips on my kayak and have gotten zero strikes nor nibbles. Do you think line retrieve could have something to do with it? I thought that rod tip action on the jig is what mattered the most.
This man is not just a Fisherman but a Teacher.
Great video. I learned more here in ten minutes than I have watching an hour of others. Thanks for the info!
Thanks, Denny. I figure if you just want to watch pretty video of someone catching fish, there are thousands of youtube channels you can watch. Real information is much harder to find.
Nice video. Nice of you to post the links and prices, you would think that TackleDirect stocks these rods ... but the rods are not in stock
nice video! and more videos about finshing gears pls!
Excellent, straight to the point and easy to follow. 👌
Great content sir😍💪tight lines 🐟🎣⚓
I’ve worked in a tackleshop for years now. And you have said a perfect description of slow pitch jigging with regards to basic information to high end tackle knowledge!! Bravo sir!!!
Do you do anything special to position the boat when fishing?
You are the only sailor talking about sailboat fishing. More videos please.
Great way to explain slow pitch jigging! I'm looking to get into slow pitch. Will probably be buying a set up next month 👌🏾
What the best rod cant use sir for the best jigging
And you reel
What rod are you use sir
Just found your channel, please do more videos!
Are u using torium 16hg or 14hg on your game type j?
Good explanation... enough experience...if u can't answer my question.. with one u choose..normal blank rod or spiral contraction rod for slow jig...???! Thank pop
Mardi, Given a choice, the spiral arrangement of guides is better. Not a LOT better, but better. I'd not pay a lot more for it, but it is a nice extra. It actually should be cheaper. If the designer is taking full advantage of the spiral arrangement of guides, he can use fewer guides, which saves both material and labor. Bill
You should make more videos
👍🏻 101
The best explanation on the internet ! Good job 👍
The philipino style is once youre on a fish you point the rod down and use the reel to just winch them in hard. If this is your style youll need a good reel as well
Excellent lower price point reel Torium 16 HGA RH - about 230.00 higher up at about 530.00 - shimano ocea jigger. 46 " per crank! - both reels & the torium 16 has 24 lb drag to jigger's 22 lbs. Both awesome reels. Rods - for now Ive got the metal witch (250.00)MTSC634SF a P3 rated rod for 150-200 gram jigs. The evergreen rod I want is just under 600.00 perhaps for Christmas...1 last endorsement - to see some really fine handmade jigs from Japan check Seafloor Control's website for every design for fishing 10 meter depth down to 300 meter depth. Ordered my 1st 2 secret rector jigs (red/gold zebra glow & silver/pink zebra glow) warning these are pricey lures but amazing workmanship. Great explanation will watch your others videos. Thank you.
Change the shimano torium handle up ...there is many aftermarket parts for torium ....you might be surprise the differences .
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Mexico
The reel is shimano torium 14HGA. The rod i dont know
Rod is Game Type J
thank you for your video. what is the rod and reel model you are showing in your video.
The Rod is a Shimano Game Type J, model B605. Made for a maximum jig weight of 300 grams. A great tool The more I use it the more I like it. I have used it for grouper in the Bahamas, and cod in Nova Scotia. The reel is a Shimano Torium 16HGA. (Not 14HGA, although the difference is only one of size.) If you look to our web site we have some tackle recommendations and specific rods and reels that make a goos system in my mind.
@@thefishingsailor Thank you fir your reply. I already have the Torium 16, I will look for the rod. is that a 20 or 30# line setup? Have a great day.
Norberto, I have this outfit rigged with line labeled as 20lb (which actually breaks at about 28lb). It would work as well with 30lb line, although the slightly larger diameter of the higher test line would affect your ability to get as deep.
The Fishing Sailor thank you Bill, i really appreciate your help. keep safe and tight lines.
@@thefishingsailor I cannot find this rod anywhere online, are you sure that's the B605?
I've never tried slow pitch jigging. What lures do you use? I have a couple high speed vertical jigs and a set of butterfly jigs.
Brent, There are a lot of jigs special made for slow pitch jigging. The high speed vertical jigs aren't your best choice. Jibs made for high speed jigging typically have little inherent action on the drop. The butterfly jigs have worked very well for me in a variety of situations, and are sort of a middle ground between the full on slow pitch jigs and the high speed versions.
Butterfly jigs are good for slow pitch
