Hi, thanks for commenting. You haven’t missed anything, the cheese, mushrooms and onions make up most of the flavour. It’s not meant to be overpowering in any direction but rather a creamy, cheesy side dish to accompany your main dish. All the elements combine and it’s quite delicious! I’d suggest fresh thyme or sage if you’re looking for more. Hope you give it a try and let me know what you think.

If it’s the Gruyère you have trouble buying, you can swap it for Swiss, Monterey Jack or even cheddar. I just find the Gruyère to have the nicest flavour for this recipe. Thank you for commenting.

Hi Patricia, I have not tested this recipe with a sugar substitute. I can only suggest to sub out half the sugar for unsweetened applesauce, which still has sugar but natural vs refined. It needs some sugar to maintain its texture. Thank you for watching and commenting.

I use erythritol as a sugar substitute, alongside 1/4 cup brown sugar or you can just do all erythritol.

Great question and thank you for commenting. I have not experimented with different quantities of sugar in this recipe, however, I would suggest decreasing the sugar by 1/2 cup and replace it with unsweetened applesauce. I’d love to hear how you make out with any modification.

By all means freeze it in a container of suitable choice. Sometimes I clamp/clip the top of the original cream container and freeze as is. I’ve also frozen unopened in the cardboard container.

@@compelledtocook oh no I switched out for a glass jar for sure! I mean the packaging just had that as a warning implying the product wasn’t suitable for freezing, not sure why. Done it now, we’ll see!
