    One of the things that pissed me off the most is what they made Chris MacNeil say about Fathher Karras and Father Merrin: “I wasn’t a part of their patriarchy”. Bullshit. The complexity of the original was thrown out the window. These two men DIED saving her daughter. No way that the character of Chris would’ve said that.

      I think it's about Honesty and Truth; Dimmesdale and even Chillingworth are tortured through the novel because they hide themselves, and that aspect mutates in secrecy and infects them. Hester and Pearl are open -- Hester doesn't have the option to hide and Pearl is ignorant/innocent. Hester has her suffering but it doesn't morph into the monster that consumes the two men Really enjoyed the book!

    Gary Oldman is a fine-looking man. Why compare him to Brad Pitt? They are worlds apart. Both are good actors and are both good looking in their own way. I actually like Demi Moore. Good on her for giving it a go to speak with an English accent. Not easy.

    • @catharsismachine

      I guess I see Brad Pitt as more of eye candy, and Gary Oldman as the kinda guy you might find more attractive, but he's less of a himbo type that would have you drooling. The equivalent would be comparing someone like Sydney Sweeney to someone like Zooey Daschanel. Maybe? But just about everyone things I'm wrong so I concede.

    I disagree with the first point. When observing real-life conversations for scriptwriting, people often speak indirectly, and understanding the underlying conversations beneath their words is crucial. Listening to how people communicate can reveal deeper meanings that might not be immediately apparent. Inflection and tone in real-life dialogue can convey emotions and relationships more effectively than the literal words spoken. For example, while overhearing a couple at dinner, I can discern a lot about how a girlfriend feels about her partner. Is she genuinely laughing and joining in on their jokes, or is her laughter forced? Are they exchanging lively banter, or is their conversation stilted, filled with awkward pauses and brief, hesitant responses? These subtle cues in their interaction-whether they lean in with genuine interest or maintain a polite but distant demeanor-often reveal more about their relationship dynamics than the words they actually say. People don't often say how they really feel. It depends what kind of genre you are writing.

    • @catharsismachine
      @catharsismachine 2 месяца назад

      I can agree with this. The problem with this is most conversations you will overhear will not be this deep, but yeah, when you luck across someone in the middle of a deep conversation, it can be useful

    I find it strange to give advice on how to write an A24 movie as if they're directing it or something. Spec scripts go to an agent who sends them out, and if you're lucky, it makes it to an exec at a24 and it resonates with them. But it could just as likely resonate with Neon or Film4 or IFC.. there's no formula for an "a24" film - they're all wildly different. They aren't "one" kind of film. They're made by a very broad selection of individual film makers. Is the Witch anything like Love Lies Bleeding? Is Pearl anything like Past Lives? Is Dream Scenario anything like Zone of Interest?? Pretty ridiculous to put them all under the same blanket statement. They buy and distribute mostly good movies, but this narrative that A24 makes a "particular type" of movie needs to go away - that and the idea that they make them, they don't make them, the writers, directors and actors make them. They may have recently pivoted into producing, but the best thing A24 do is stay out the way and let their talent cook.

I really appreciate the time spent on doing these videos - Really helped me a lot. I will review and rewrite now but I wonder if you have a video explaining on how to format a screenplay? Because all I have is a Draft on my phone notes. I have seen several videos explaining on how to format a screenplay but to be honest from all the videos from other people I've seen, yours are more understandable, emphatic, knowledgeable and over all better and I wonder if you have any video explaining screenplay formating? What I could afford is Google Sheets, not a screenplay software but I will defend myself on how to do the margins, etc, I just wonder how you type a scene and basically a screenplay overall. Again, Thank you so much! You are a Blessing! Greetings from Miami, FL!

    Looking back at the A24 trailers and marketing, this is the only trailer that is very action cliche and for die hard A24 fans out there, you probably think why A24 is switching to a war action now, and it's missing it's aura, or so called A24 vibez in the trailer because that's the old marketing strategy in Hollywood for promoting an movie, explosions, cliche drums and anything you can see from a 2000s trailers, but did this movie disappointed the audiences, yes most of them because of geopolitical inaccuracies but the message of the story is hidden but clear as a sunny day, the ending is very quick, main character's death had no given sympathy, the destruction and firefight is so damn fast, well that's how war happens in real life, War is quick, sad and cold, true victory is when you go home happy and complete

      The bad news is there is no real way to send a script to A24. You would need a Hollywood Literary agent. So the first step is to get an agent or manager, which is also a hard task. My advice would be to start by submitting to contests and fellowships, and try to win or place in a few, and use that to get a manager. This is a good list of fellowships & contests: www.wgfoundation.org/fellowship-writing-programs-for-screenwriters-masterlist
